  1. Our first Princess cruise and I just printed the luggage tags. Do they really last if you put them on before your flight? I'm used to cardboard with strings or elastic. These seem like they'll be torn off before you pick up the luggage at the airport. Any advice for using them?

There is no need to put them on your flight! You can purchase luggage tag holders from the Cruise Critic Store and put them in there and then on your luggage before getting to ship!

  2. At 30 and even when I was younger I would detest going on a Spring Break Cruise even as a teen as I can't stand the Hip Hop Music, Drunk underage drinkers. Just the smell of smoke and shall we say the other dirty stuff turned me off . I am so glad my Parents did not subject my Brother and I to a Carnival Cruise.

Now at 30 I can really appreciate cruises. I love Motown Music/Disco Music and the Old Soft-Rock Music along with World Music/Classical and Jazz Music.

I will be going on the Coral Princess for the Full Transit Panama Canal with my Father this Sunday. We did a Cunard Med Cruise this past November also 2 weeks.

Call me the type who would find pure bliss in the Sanctuary or by the pool listening to the Calypso Band, Attending the Shows and even striking up conversation with people in the Dining Room/Buffet etc.

Or just reading my book in the library or having snacks/coffee in the International Cafe. That is my cup of tea.

I really enjoyed going almost daily to the Afternoon Tea on Cunard and hope to continue the tradition on Princess along with the other onboard parties.

I am a foodie and I must say I enjoy the food onboard all the cruises I have been on. I only returned one entree because it did not taste right but then I quickly ordered something else and apologized. Other than that I eat what is put in front of me. Just the easy-going cruiser.

So my point is you can be 30 but enjoy Frank Sinatra, Genesis, Bee Gees , good Movies Under The Stars, dancing to Disco and attending the shows .

I will admit that having an Interior Cabin did not stop me from having fun. In fact I had so much fun on my Cunard Cruise that I did not return to the cabin until well after 1 or 2 AM. Just used the Cabin to get dressed and take a short nap other than that I was up on deck.

People get so involved with a balcony(which I would like but then I would be afraid I would be on my balcony and not enjoying the fun on deck).

I even ordered Room Service to the cabin and had fun eating foods I would not normally eat at home while watching TV.

Cruising has various mindsets and you know what I'm fine with that. I am one who has fun from Dawn till Dusk. I am never bored because I read the Platter every night and select what I want to do.

Man with all the lectures, cooking demos , eating , watching movies, swimming, working out at the gym the days are fun. That is why I count the Sea Days the more the merrier along with cool ports.

I hope to be able to bring my Mom on Princess who sadly her first and only experience was on Holland America to Alaska. I told my Mom that she does not know what a fun cruise is. I would not want to go on Holland as I feel it gets slow after 8 PM.

I would not mind taking another Cunard Cruise but that will be a World Cruise. In fact if I could just cruise until the day I die after making the good money I would. Heck why pay rent to a sleezy landlord with all these rules about no parties etc.

I would rather just stay on for many segments on a Princess or Cunard Cruise and let people serve me. The cost of the drinks onboard is very reasonable including the beverage packages. I would just purchase the Premium Beverage Package for all my cruises and forget about it.

I love meeting new people and can't wait for more Princess Cruises.

    It certainly sounds like it!

  3. We sailed 3/29 - 4/5 out of Houston. This was our first (DH and I) Princess cruise. Previously we have sailed on RCI, Celebrity and Oceania.

Princess just didn't live up to our expectations at all. The food was average. We did eat in the two specialty restaurants, Sabatini, which was very nice, and Crowne Grille, which was so-so with VERY slow service. And regarding room service, on the other lines you can order a hot breakfast in the room, but on Princess the only offerings are continental breakfast.

There are some very nice bars on the ship, but overall, it just looks shabby. Not sure how old it is, but it seems to be showing its age. And the bathroom in our cabin! We had a balcony cabin and the bathroom was tiny compared to RCI and Celebrity. The toilet seat looked dirty and I tried to wipe it clean and it was just that it was old and scratched! Yuk. We were on the Aloha deck, by the way.

On Thursday night, after a port day in Roatan, I woke up around midnight with stomach cramps and diarrhea. It became more severe overnight and the next morning (Friday) my DH called 911. A nurse came to our room (there was no way I could make it down to the med office). I had chills and was running a temp of 100.7 and nauseous. She gave me a shot and meds to take. I have to say, she was super nice and very caring. Of course I was quarantined to the cabin until Saturday at 1 pm. Not that I wanted to leave the room anyway! I was miserable.

She asked what I had eaten that day and asked if we had gone on an excursion. We had gone on the snorkel sail and lunch. She asked if it was the "Jolly Roger" and I said yes, it was. I asked if other passengers were ill and she said she could not say but that she had heard "things" about Jolly Roger. We also discussed the possibility of norovirus. I read the paper she gave me and I had all the symptoms, so I guess I will never know if it was food poisoning or norovirus. Cleaners wearing masks came in to sanitize the room twice.

I'm sure things like this can happen on any ship, but this combined with the fact that we were disappointed overall, we will just not be sailing on Princess again. I heard in the cruise terminal when we were disembarking that Princess is owned by the same company that owns Carnival. So maybe that explains it ...

I recall this same tone before in a previous post which I believe established by you. Same/similar references and vocabulary! It appears to me that Princess was extremely responsive in your request for medical attention as provided to you. Apparently, your symptoms were directly related to your unfortunate interaction with an excursion of your choosing not while aboard engaging in a meal provided by Princess.

So sorry that your unfortunate situation caused you to have an interruption during your vacation, however, I find that you will be at a definite loss in the future should you opt out to sail with Princess again because of matters beyond/out of their control.

  4. True AFT Verandahs are the most coveted stateroom locations on the ship! You get a little extra exercise,180 degree view, additional privacy and the spectacular view of the wake as well as the "white noise" provided by the wake.

The only noise or vibration come from the engine's thrusters when navigating in / out of port. This is my favorite ship location when booked approximately 1 year in advance.

Lido deck is so much fun! Other than the occasional excursion and evening dining which require the access/use of an elevator, you can casual dine and play everyday without leaving behind your stateroom.

Remember the rule.....lower and midship are ideal for those with weak stomachs, the rest, is for each individual to decide on their own based upon preference.

My suggestion, have an A & B stateroom location universal with most ships when booking and go from there. Ships today are designed in such way that motion may be regulated more by mother nature, not from the ship itself.

    Have a wonderful cruise!:)

  5. Does anyone know if Pacific Princess, or any other cruise line, does a cruise from Tahiti, visits French Polynesia Islands, and returns to Tahiti.........IN THE SPRING?

I am told that their schedule for 2016 is not out yet. I just want to know if any cruise ship does do this cruise in April or May.

    Thank you,

Paul Gauguin, absolutely the best by far. Did Fiji to Papetee (3 weeks) !

  6. I would love to bring home some of the best Columbian coffee for my family. Can anyone tell me where to buy it that is in a safe, easy to get to, place in Cartegena, or is it cheaper, better in some of the other ports? Thank you for any help you can offer.

The best coffee is Jamaican Blue Mountain!

  7. The prices are often 3 times the going rate on board. IOW, a good $20 wine will cost you $60 on board. $20 plus $15 = $45.

Your math is incorrect! That would be $35.00!

  8. I can't imagine paying $15 corkage on ANY wine!

It sucks! You purchase your 2 bottles average $20.each prior to embarkation and then you have to pay $15.00 to drink it in the MDR, or N/C in stateroom. Think I'll bring a couple BB wines in luggage for $20. each and take my chances then off to the MDR with a large wine glass full of wine. Oh how I love Kettle One out of a Dasani water bottle!

Best thing to do is enjoy a non alcoholic/wine/beer vacation and invest all the money into activities and fun things to do during holiday!

  9. We are booked on the Coral Princess for a 15 day LA to Fort Lauderdale Panama Canal cruise over Thanksgiving. Does anyone have any experience with the menu?

We all probably have had some experience with this menu. As you probably guessed, traditional menus will be available and yes, if you desire turkey and trimmings it is also available! Gobble! Gobble!
