I'm glad to hear some different and more positive perspectives on the ship, and am looking forward to seeing her for myself. This is my first visit to New Orleans, and I've been scouring the N.O. board for information of all kinds, trying to figure out what I want to see and experience in our short time window before the cruise. The info has been really helpful. I'm pretty excited about this trip.

New Orleans is one of my favorite places to visit, although I have only done one cruise out of there!  Cat's Meow and Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop Bar are my two favorite places on Bourbon St..  Lots of fun places to go that are not on Bourbon as well!  Have fun!

  2. I have been on three cruises since going gluten-free.  Carnival has the best options in my opinion.  The chocolate lava cake in the MDR was fantastic!  Everyone was so accommodating!  On the Carnival cruise I did eat all breakfasts and dinners in the MDR, it was great!

Only thing I find is that one has to be low key about travel plans because friends and family can become jealous and make odd comments like "IT MUST BE NICE" or "AGAIN".

I hate comments like that!  I have had people make the same to me.  I stopped telling people about my vacations now.  I may take anywhere between 4 to 6 vacations a year (some are just long weekend trips), but I plan and budget for each one.

  4. I have two cruises booked as well, a first for me too!  I am cruising in November and December!  Thankfully, I have a couple of weekend trips planned and a trip to Portugal and Spain booked to keep me busy while I wait for November!  Have fun on your cruises!

Does anyone have any experiences flying in the day of the cruise?

we know most people say to fly in a day earlier, but my wife and i are taking an 8 day Caribbean cruise on the magic and with total travel time we have maxed our vacation days from work and can not, unfortunately fly in the day before. its in october so we have time, flights are booked thru my carnival agent with the fly2fun program. we can change them if need be.

both my wife and i are hoping we can get the extra day and change our flights, but if not, we want to hear some experiences to soothe our fears.  i used to fly a lot when i was in the military and i never had much problems, if any, with delays that were at all significant, but life happens.

That sucks when work gets in the way of vacation!

I am taking 2 cruises this year, I plan on flying in the day before, because I am a worried traveler and don't want to miss the ship!

I hope everything works out for your and your wife!  Have a fantastic vacation!

  6. My name is Valerie, I am going on my first solo cruise (5th cruise total) from November 8 to the 11, 2019 on the Carnival Victory, my birthday gift to myself.  I thought I would try a short cruise to see if I like cruising solo, we are just going to the Bahamas, I have been there before so I feel comfortable going there by myself.  I am excited!

I also have a mayo allergy/intolerance. I don't know if it's the dairy or what it is but I've had it for awhile. I hate the taste anyway. I'm thinking of giving the Head Waiter a list of things I can't eat and a list of things I can eat..it is obnoxious but the easiest way to do things.

That sounds like a good plan! The staff will be very accommodating to you.  I gave my waitstaff an extra tip at the end of the cruise for all of their help.

  8. I am gluten-free and have a mayo allergy, I have traveled on two cruises and both times, the MDR was the best option for me to eat at.  I would order my meals for breakfast and dinner for the next day the night before after I had eaten dinner.  It was so easy and so convenient! All the waitstaff was great! Breakfast in the MDR is a great option!!

  9. we found it in other ports also but Jamaica had the best deal for out Itinerary - seems some stores have limits for what they can sell it at...Aruba wanted $80 a bottle...

Okay, thank you for the information! We will be going to Falmouth so maybe I will pick it up there.
