It seems to me there was a "crew only" door there at the end of the hall. I saw a few crew go through the door but they were all in whites with officer's insignia. Never heard a sound from anything other than the anchor. Like you said, once you know what it is it's fine but that first time... Wow!

Thanks 😊 that’s what we figured but just wanted to make sure. Did you happen to notice if the first balcony was the same as the rest?

Not sure which cabin you have but if you are in the most forward cabin - C101 or C102 I have a minor warning for you. While it's not a balcony cabin we sailed on Ruby in C106. It's an inside cabin at the same place as those forward balconies.  (We booked this for a short 7 day cruise because we realized it would hook up nicely with a 19 day cruise we had scheduled on Coral Princess so the location was fine for that purpose.) We woke up one morning with a sound like a freight train zooming through our cabin. It was really (really!) loud. When we figured out it was the anchor chain being let out we laughed and went back to sleep but, for that brief moment, it was really crazy loud.

I’m in 101. I was worried about what’s at the front of the ship.
I have had the scare of the anchor in the morning on a cruise before it can be so loud but once you know what it is it’s fine 😂. Did you ever hear noises from the front area, I think it has something to do with the crew.

  3. Does anyone know if it’s worth upgrading to the caribe cabins on the Ruby Princess. I think it has a bigger balcony, I’m thinking getting one at front of ship. Any information would help thanks.

  4. Just posted this in the thread below - we were on the June 3rd SF to Alaska Star Princess cruise.

We booked the Vow Renewal prior to the cruise (think that you must do this) - it was the $225.99 package.

It was only my DH & myself on the cruise but it was our 31st anniversary so we said "why not?" We had a letter in our cabin when we embarked letting us know that our Vow Renewal would be on the next day - I want to say that it was scheduled for 4 or 4:30 pm. This was also our first formal night. Worked out great for us as it was on our actual anniversary. I also got a call from someone going over details and I told them we had written our own vows.

The letter told us to arrive at the chapel 15 minutes before our time. We arrived at the proper time and were greeted by a crew member in white uniform. She had DH's boutonniere and my bouquet (the bouquet was beautiful - I kept it in water for the entire cruise). The photographer arrived, then the captain. They started music and we walked down the short aisle together. The captain went through a beautiful ceremony with us saying our vows to each other. The photographer took loads of photos. Afterwards we were shown our certificate which was signed by the captain. They arranged to have the certificate & my bouquet brought to our cabin so we could head out to dinner.

When we got back to our cabin later we had a bottle of champagne with glasses waiting for us. We also got chocolate strawberries and a box of Godiva chocolates.

The photographer contacted us a couple days later to look at our pictures. There are multiple packages you can buy but you get one picture in a commemorative frame.

We also received an invitation from the captain to visit the Bridge on one of our sea days. It was all done very tastefully and we felt special for our day. Considering how much you can spend on doing a Vow Renewal this was just right for us.

Our renewal was private and very special.

Thanks so much, sounds like a great time. I'm still not sure what day they might do ours since the 2nd day is a glacier viewing day, I sure hope it is!!!:)

  5. I was thinking of doing the same thing until I remembered what miniwheat wrote - everything is so much more expensive in AK, that it might be more cost-effective to buy at least soda & water on the ship.

Unlimited soda package is about 5.00 a day per person and they have one for around 8 that has virgin drinks and such.:)

  6. Thanks for the postings we will be on the island sailing out of Whittier on June 11th can you tell me if you saw any stores to buy soda or wine, we want to purchase our 2 bottles before we get on the cruise, thanks:D

I know there are grocery stores in Anchorage but I really can't remember seeing any in Whittier. Don't forget nothing is cheap including soda's in Alaska. I think its cheaper to just do the soda package on the ship.:)

  7. Actually, ours was private. We had it in the wedding chapel on the Caribbean Princess and you, you get to keep the flowers.

Thanks for the info. I hope mine is private but I'll do group if needed. :o

  8. we did the vow renewal 4 years ago and we did NOT get to pick out the flowers but the bouquet was beautiful! mostly white flowers (real flowers) so it will go with anything you wear. the cake was given to us with a bottle of champagne and two glasses. it was delivered to the room and was already there when we got back to the room. A photographer will be there to take pictures at the ceremony also. you get to keep the glasses and you get a certificate. I brought the cake to dinner the next evening to share with our tablemates. The cake is about an 8 inch cake I think. no need to purchase! wait until you see the vows the captain recites to you...absolutely beautiful! it is not your typical vows, the words had to do with the years of marriage, and the years you are together. at the time when we did it, it was our 25th anniversary. he talked about the trials and tribulations to get to that milestone. you will love it! I found this to be more beautiful then our actual marriage ceremony because you are so busy trying to pull off the perfect wedding. they do that for you in a vow renewal and its perfect in every way possible. The captain will ask if you will be exchanging rings before the ceremony starts. We did this on Diamond princess. be sure to ask them to turn on the camera before the ceremony starts. My family watched the entire ceremony online. I wish you many years of happiness!!!

Thanks so much, I'm wondering if its changed since 2013 because its not private anymore. Did you get to keep the flowers??

  9. I have reserved for a vow renewal on the Coral Princess in July, does anyone know what day the will be doing the renewal the first 2 days are glacier days and I wasn't sure if they would still do them on the first formal night or not since its also a glacier day. Also do you get to pick the flowers you want? Also do they have cake you can buy for after?

I guess I should say it will be in Alaska! :D If anyone does there's between now and then I would love to hear how it goes, as I think Princess has changed things since last year.

  11. You are welcome. If it is anything like ours was you will love it.

Just remember to plan ahead. They usually like t do them on sea days and formal nights. You can also write your own vows if you like before hand. You can have rings exchanged or not. Music, etc...So, they are pretty flexible as to what you can do in the ceremony.

    Enjoy.

Do you get to keep the flowers??

  12. I hear she is lovely for the Alaska cruise. We are also hoping to take her for a cruise there as well. I have a lot more food pictures coming- its my favorite part!

Have a wonderful time in September!

Thanks this is my third time going to Alaska all with Princess!! They are my favorite cruise line, I've done NCL's Epic, and a couple of Carnivals cruise but Princess just has something the others doesn't.
