I have a simple question, does the strike begin tue night into wed, or wed night into thu?

I am on a flight for 3 July from EWR-OSL and return 17 July. We are on a cruise and booked through the cruise line Hurtigruten. I spoke with Hurtigruten and they said they will take care of rebooking if needed. I also tried to call SAS here in the USA and their call waits were over 80 minutes.

We are flying on BA/American airlines.

We just got home from Europe but not the UK. We returned from Amsterdam and had the same concerns as you mentioned. We also needed to be tested for my return to the USA. We were also concerned about finding testing sites before our departure and I found some in Amsterdam for our use. Antigen tests are fine. However, they have to be done less than 24 hrs before departure.

I did some research for you and the UK and read your posts and think the following information may help you.

First, here is a link for requirements to the USA for Covid tests. Basically the Antigen is the best option but only with a 24 hr option. https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/newsbirmingham/usa-travel-rules-what-covid-test-do-i-need-to-travel-to-the-usa/ar-AAWnjNN?ocid=uxbndlbing

Second, if I were in the UK I would schedule my test appointment in advance (you usually have to prepay for the test too). I looked up this site for testing and here are some that may help. If you can do the test before you flight, I would choose one to the sites at Heathrow.  https://www.expresstest.co.uk/book-a-test/?msclkid=f204c7d434d41fb36a4ba5b450c8744c&utm_source=bing&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Outbound Other - UK - Generic - Exact&utm_term=covid test heathrow&utm_content=UK - Generic | Heathrow

I also clicked on the first link for the 35 Euro test (the one I think you want) and here were the results for the pulldown menu with the sites available. If you scroll down you will see some at Heathrow. However, other sites are listed and they may be good too. There are also directions for each site, so be sure you can find the site and it is convenient before you book.

If you cannot get a document in person, then you should get an email or text to your phone with the results. Within either the email or test you should either get a formal document with a QR code, or a link to get this for use at the airport. If you can print this that would be best, if not, most airlines accept the cell phone document with the QR, but please check with your airline first.

You will also need to have proof of Covid vaccination. I assume you already have that.

    I hope this helps.

We were in a deck 3 DV1 aft cabin on our last Viking cruise and we really enjoyed it.  The only disadvantages I can think of is perhaps a slightly longer walk to get to some ship locations and just that we found the DV cabin to be a bit cramped for storage space.  We would consider booking one of these again for shorter cruises.

We just booked the Deck 3 DV1 room 3906 for Feb 2023. Do you have any pictures you can post? Thank You in advance.

  4. Thanks Everyone for your responses. We paid in full with airline tickets as well. We are also staying downtown Oslo for 2 nights, but meet our group the evening after the 2nd night for our flight to Spitsbergen. We hope to see bears and whales as well as the beautiful scenery. Only time will tell.

Will definitely lets you know all about it when we’re back. Am hoping to go to Antarctica in 2023 for you 60th. We did the coastal cruise on Spitsbergen in 2017 and loved it. Am really looking forward to the expedition cruise.

We did the Fram in Antarctica in Jan 2018, it was terrific.

Most likely all the above weather. 🙂

I just noticed you live near me, I now live in Westampton but used to live in Marlton behind the Walmart in Marlton Lees/Cambridge Park. We took a trip to Antarctica with Hurtigruten in Jan 2018 on the Fram. If you have any questions how things work with Hurtigruten, feel free to ask. Onboard, the crew are great and the naturalists are fantastic and top notch. In Antarctica, we had some naturalists that worked in Antarctica, even in the winter and they all gave talks about their experiences. Not sure how the naturalists will be in Svalbard. Food is delicious with good choices and fresh. Meat and fish each day and one day we had reindeer filet (delicious), another we had an outdoor barbeque with TBone steaks as well as other meats and fish.

Hi, we are planning to travel with Hurtigruten to Svalbard next year or the following year and there's a few bits of information that have been hard to find. I'm sure a few of you know the answers.

    1. It would be helpful if we knew the times of the inclusive flights leaving Oslo and arriving back in Oslo.

    2. I cannot seem to find any information on any excursions that are an extra cost. I know these are weather and maybe ice dependent, but any possibilities would be useful.

    3. We're hoping to travel in late June or July, any comments about going at that time of the year would be useful too.

    Many Thanks .

    B.R.

We just booked on the M.S. Spitsbergen for Aug 17, 2020.

Per 1...Spoke with Hurtigruten and they said flight from OSLO leaves late evening. Return flight leaves around 3 am arrives OSLO very early morning. We plan to arrive a day early and book a hotel in OSLO then explore the day we arrive from the USA and check out some museums the day we travel to Longyearbyen

Per 2...I don't know about this trip for excursions except the one mentioned above to visit Pyramiden. On the boat they offer Kayaking, and also tours on their Polar Explorer boats (we found this worthwhile). Whenever you have a landing, weather permitting, you can take walks into areas marked out by the Explorer team which is usually about a mile long. One time on our Antarctica trip they actually did a hike which we did not do. They had snow shoeing, but am not certain they do this on this trip. One option that was available in Antarctica was a night camping on land. Warning...it was very expensive! They provide all you need, but you set up the tent. However, they were very helpful for us (not experienced with this)

Per 3...Come August you get midnight sun, but it is low on the horizon and sets August 23 for the first time in Longyearbyen.

If you check the link below and go to the part on Svalbard, there should be good information for you.

Lastly, we are doing this trip because we had such a great time on our Antarctica trip and had it recommended to us buy another couple on our trip. The crew and the Explorer team are terrific. The food was good to excellent with fresh baked bread each day. They also had an outside barbeque with steaks one night.

Just for fun, I included on of the pictures (not taken by me) from our trip.

  8. Safety is the most important consideration for RCL. I am not on the cruise, but a friend is.

In my opinion, there are a couple reasons RCL has rescheduled. First, the waves well offshore will be very high, even if you are not in the Hurricane itself. Although seas will still be rough heading up the coast on the updated itinerary, they will not be nearly as bad as if you were headed over the open ocean well to the east. Secondly, the Hurricane track forecast by NHC is to be just west of Bermuda on Sunday afternoon. That means the original arrival in Bermuda would be impacted. Also, being on the east side of the storm, even after it passes, means continued strong winds and showers in Bermuda into Monday. Not very nice at all.

I hope everyone on the ship has a great time and enjoys their vacation. Hopefully, you will get to see some of the early season Autumn color.

  9. I'm not sure this applies to all cruise lines but on Princess I was always getting confused on which way to turn getting off the elevators to go back to my cabin. Someone told me to look at the carpet. On one side the border was red and on the other side the border was blue. I never had any issues after that and have shared that tip with many people that I've seen walk from one side of the elevator lobby to the other.

I've been on many cruises too and never noticed, but this is the first time I heard of this. Thanks for this great info.

  10. Squeeky and others that might be interested...

We just got good news, we had Oceanview Guarantee and got upgraded to Veranda midship. I could not have asked for more.

Good Luck to you Squeeky, I hope you are just as lucky.

Also, the best and quickest way to get the information is to log into your cruise site and put in your reservation number. This should be faster than waiting for the Cruise Line or your Travel Agent to inform you. This is how I found out.

This will probably be my last post on this Thread.

  11. I have had GTY cabins on Celebrity and they always assigned me a cabin right away. To b honest i have never noticed much difference in cabin location.. The real difference to me is if you are on an inside or get a window or if you have a window or a baloney. But the motion of the ship that some say they feel at the aft or the forward does not bother me. I have done GTY before.. You should wait until your cat that you will be happy with is sold out and only taking GTY bookings, then take a highest guarantee in that cat.. That way if they have to upgrade you, you go from a inside to an outside or from an outside to a balcony.

    Which cruise are you on?

The cruise i can seem to get an assignment on for weeks is an NCL.. all cruise lines seem to be different.

We are going on the Constellation on May 16 out of Venice. We also did as you recommended and got the highest GTY for OceanView we could. Although there was a higher category, the ship has very few room in that category. Even so, I counted the cabins in our category and above in OceanView and there are only about 32. Most of these are oversized and/or for handicapped. If we get any of the 32, we would be happy. Otherwise, if not, then an upgrade to balcony would be in order, which would be terrific.

I am actually excited and anticipating the cabin assignment. No worries at all.

  12. I also am booked GTY for an outside cabin Cat 6 on a Celebrity Cruise in 2 weeks. I upgraded from an inside to the GTY for 90 p/p and felt it was a bargain since any cabin in Cat 6 or higher is good for us. We upgraded 2 1/2 weeks ago and have not heard anything as of writing this. Our ship is also booked full for our type of cabin or higher (except the royal suite of course).

I have been reading many posts other than this forum and they basically all say that you get your Category or higher, but it could be any room.

I don't know what an OC category is on your cruise, but if you look up your ship and look at the cabins, you should see what OC category rooms are on the ship. You could be in any of these or in any cabin in categories that are better than what you booked.

I also do not know if it is true or not, but I also read that the closer to the departure you get your assignment, the better your chances of getting the upgrade. Also, the cruise lines also expect some people to cancel last minute, just like the airlines. I assume these last minute cancellations will be the cabins we get, if not, then we get the upgrade.

    Good Luck!

I made a mistake, I am Cat 5 not 6, which means Deck 6 or higher. We did Cat 5 because we did not want to be on the lowest 2 decks with rooms.
