  1. Am considering booking a Norwegian Fjord cruise sailing on The Azure in May.

We are looking at either fixed dinning at 8.30 or anytime dining, but i have a couple of questions if any one could help?

On anytime dining are you in a separate dining room and not the MDR ? and which is the nicest?

Can you choice your table size in anytime ?

If you can choose fixed dining can you change ?

    Many thanks in advance.

  2. Pat .

we are looking at this cruise for may 18. Looked good but i think you have put me off with the age comment. We are only in our early fifties so probably be the youngest on the ship ???

Is it full of elderly who are in bed by 10?? Your thoughts please . Thankyou

Decided to book Epicurean for the final night but we were very disappointed. Firstly the waitress put us off the wild boar saying it would be tough so we both chose steaks, medium rare, and they were tough as old boots. We sent them back and had duck which was good.

Desserts were ok but not amazing and same with starters (though my niece had the duck liver parfait and that was very good). The steak in the MDR was better.

No rough seas so arrived in Southampton refreshed and it was another lovely sunny day. Very impressed with disembarkation. Had breakfast, off the ship just after 08.30, luggage found immediately and CPC were fantastic. I was home by 2.30 (North Yorkshire) and that included dropping my niece off in Oxford and having a cup of coffee with her before I set off.

So my overall thoughts re P&O after 12 years -

impressed with the ship and staff as well as embarkation and disembarkation which were much smoother than before and much better than I expected (though I would still like to board earlier!)

Buffet was poor. Not great choices at although desserts were good and I enjoy the curries but Keema as an option?

The main dislike I had ...........

    were the other passengers!

I have never met as many lift ditherers in all my cruises. Does it go up, or down! If I leave my finger on the button will the lift arrive faster, we'll go up even though we want to go down (or vice versa).

Mainly older Brits, as I knew it would be, I do prefer a more cosmopolitan crowd, and do they like to moan!

One couple asked if it was ok to join us at the Tamla evening, I said of course and then looked around to see lots of empty tables. Oh well we probably looked like fun! I asked how they were enjoying their cruise - wrong question!

They proceeded to whinge about everything and tell me how wonderful NCL were. We picked up our drinks, said goodnight and moved to another table - who needs that lol?

So overall a lovely cruise but I would look closer at the itinerary next time so it wasn't such an older crowd (I'm 66 so not because I'm ageist, honestly.)

Loved Glass House, Malibar and Planet Bar and enjoyed some lovely libations and good conversations.

    Cheers

  3. We are looking at taking a cruise in May this year to Norwegian Fjords. Have cruised before in Med, Caribbean and Asia with Celebrity, RC & MSC but never from Southampton or with P & O. We have found 2 cruises that suit our dates with P & O & RC but they vary in price considerably with RC being twice the price nearly of P & O and although it includes drinks & gratuities still seems a lot more money. Questions:-

    1) What age group cruises from Southampton with P&O & RC during term time? The Ships are Azura & Independence of the Seas. We are aged 51 & 52...... Bit concerned the evenings may be lacking in atmosphere if passengers going to bed early due to a lot older age group?

    2) What are cabins like on either ship - with price being so much higher on Independence we would most likely take an inside. With P & O we could have a balcony.

    3) What is entertainment like on P & O and how formal are the gala nights? We do enjoy wearing formal dress but many cruise lines have made this more smart/casual.

    4) P&O don't seem to offer a drinks package, are you allowed to take alcohol on board, what price are drinks?

Many thanks in advance for any help/advice.

  4. A few years ago while cruising, (in the R Bar on Freedom of the Seas), I discovered that I absolutely LOVE lemon drop martinis. Then last year sailed with X for the first time and saw the Martini Bar on Connie, and was over the top excited to have a bar dedicated to my new favorite type of drink! Throughout the cruise, I probably tried them all, but the lemon drop is still my favorite.

    What is a Frozen Aspen?

Agree . Lemon Drop Martini at the Martini Bar . Love it..........

  5. This is getting tiresome. There are 3 (or 4?) Threads about Connie. I love her, but how much more can be said?

I only asked the question as we are sailing on her on the 26th Jan and I had read several negative reviews.

Thankfully the majority of replies, (including yourself) have all been very positive so it has certainly put my mind at rest.

I sure we will have a great time on our first cruise in Asia, it will definitely be a change from our normally destination of the Caribbean at this time of the year.

Thanks for all your replies on the subject which we should now all put to bed !!!!

  6. OP are you on the 5 Feb cruise? If so we will see you on board :). Safe travels to Singapore - we live here so no need to fly out for embarkation. Am very excited about our trip!

No. We Sail on the 26 Jan, so the one before you. We will take care of her........

  7. "Hi. My wife and I have just returned from a trip on the constellation. We found the ship very shabby in places, food and and entertainment was also not as good as other cruises we have been on. Check out on Webb sites such as this and trip adviser. There are a lot of bad reports. Wish I had seen them prior to booking our trip."

So i will ignore the above quote and move on.......

Thank you for all your positive thought and so pleased you all had a great time. I am now looking forward to our forthcoming cruise even more than ever :):):)

Only 12 days until we fly to Singapore:):)

  8. Only just over two weeks until our first trip on the Constellation,(in Aqua class) so obviously been trawling the forum for reports and reviews. Too late i know but you know how it is!!!

A little bit concerned about the negative thoughts of some critics.

Has anyone anything positive to say ?

  9. I guess we're the voices from the wilderness with no frame of reference, but after eight years on Royal, we found our cruise on Reflection such a breath of fresh air that it was like cruising for the first time again! Hardly any crowds, anywhere (although the chair hogs did come along to the solarium :() The music seemed much less intrusive, there was no false formality at dinner, Blu was amazing, etc. Hardly any kids, and those that were aboard weren't hanging out on the stairs at midnight.

So, for us, (early to mid 50's), we found the current Celebrity product to pretty much be exactly what we were looking for. Which is not to downplay those with much more experience who don't feel that way.

I would have to agree the above (similar ages i think) X suits us fine . Wouldn`t want to go on Silver seas or similar as too quiet i would imagine ? on the other hand not keen on children running about so the mega ships would also be a no no.... Off soon on Connie so will see if standards have lowered.

  10. Hendricks is def one of my favourites so should be ok.

Would that be covered by my classic drink package or would I need to upgrade to premium? Any one know the cost of upgrading??

  11. On our Silhouette cruise last September we made friends who were not in Aqua and wanted to have a meal or two with them. It was easy to arrange it as long as we went to the MDR with them. We enjoyed BLU, both for dinner and breakfast but the price has to be reasonable. We have two more trips booked and Aqua would cost an additional $2000 so we are sticking with a regular veranda and can always do some specialty dinners for a whole lot less than two grand.

This is the reason i asked the question and you have answered it perfectly.

We got a really good price for aqua class and a aft stateroom on 11 so we deff not be changing it ........

Blu sounds great and I'm sure we will enjoy it.No chance of eating in the Buffet in the evening, i liked to be waited on when on holiday!

    Thanks for all your views.
