  1. I believe it was $ 10 pp round trip. We did not reserve in advance and just paid when we got there. There was a sign and a person selling tickets. It usually runs on days when ships docked. It runs every hour, from what I remember. We had plenty of time to see the bears and caught the next bus back.

Great thanks for the quick reply. We’re going to Sitka on a cruise next year and trying to figure out how easy it would be to get to the fortress without a ship’s tour.

  2. The Fortress of the Bear in Sitka was interesting. You can catch a shuttle from the tourist center in town. The shuttle also stops at the Raptor Center on the way back. From there it’s a nice walk back to town through the Totem Pole Park. Lots of history to see walking around town when you return.

If you will be in Juneau from at least 8:00 am to 6:00 pm, I recommend the Tracy Arm tour with Adventure Bound. It is a long day, but amazing scenery. Some ships also offer a similar excursion from the ship.

Do you know the costs for the shuttle to Fortress of the Bear? Also is there usually availability when you turn up on the day?

  3. Are there any benefits to evening whale tours other than using the day for other things? Are there more whale sightings etc? When have alaska booked for 2019 and are in Juneau until 9pm.

  4. We go on the harmony on Sunday. We'll confirm what happens when we get on the ship but received our letter from the concierge yesterday and looks like they might be removing the free drinks all days. States there is a bar available for purchase during the day and complimentary bar set up from 5-8.30 (although only lists beer, wine, champagne and soft drinks- no mention of spirits!).

Thankfully we have a drinks package included on this cruise but looks like changes could be coming.

Not trying to start new rumours and as I said will confirm what happens on board but looks like Harmony may not be offering the free drinks all day the way the other suite lounges were.

  5. We're on the same cruise and got the same e-mail. Found another thread discussing this and confirmed it with our documents. The one change we found was in the luggage tags. In our original tags there are four quadrants for where your room is located whereas in the new documents there are 6 areas - which is apparently the norm for oasis class ships.

  6. Which webpage are you referring to exactly? When I look at the DreamWorks Experience page Harmony IS listed: http://www.royalcaribbean.com/contentSitelet.do?pagename=dreamworks_main

I'm in the UK and when I click that link it automatically redirects me to the UK site for the link which doesn't list Harmony as one of the ships.

However I have found another place on the website mentioning dreamworks on harmony. I really hope it is there as do think it adds to the cruise me. We're on the 7 night from Southampton to Barcelona so will find out in 30 days!

  7. Thanks for the detailed explanation.

Since terminal 18 is already set up with computers do you think they will do a hybrid check in system and not use the iPads ?

I haven't cruised from Port Everglades but when Anthem was sailing from Southampton last summer they were using the iPad check in for Anthem and still using the regular check in for the voyager class ship also sailing out of Southampton.

It is Royal Caribbean so who know's what they are planning but they do have a history of more than one system being used.

We sail Harmony from Southampton in May and hope they have the iPad check in as was very smooth last year.

  8. Vigo is on a huge bay or 'Ria' of the same name. Could you provide some more info? The nearest rafting I can think of, and I live here, is on the River Sil, a tributary of the River Miño/Minho which separates Spain from Portugal. These venues are some distance from Vigo though, perhaps as much as an hour away.

The excursion does talk of an hours drive to get there so could be thinking where you're thinking off! Can't do it at the moment but will check the tour details just now but will have another look and see if it lists the place name

  9. We cruised in aft JS 1100 on the Serenade last fall, and so glad we did. Let me tell you the noise in the Centrum gets very loud after dinner. With that in mind, we wouldn't book a room close to the centrum. We did a Canada/New England and E. Caribbean B2B.

I wish they'd get rid of the amp noise makers, and return to classical music.

With that in mind, we had a long walk to our room with a sore leg. If the leg wasn't an issue, we'd book 1100 again. So, let's hope the physical therapy works.

Be sure to ride those beautiful panoramic elevators up to the top and see the cows!

Cows?? Now you have me interested! We've had an aft cabin previously on the freedom and would take on again in a heartbeat but unfortunately none available on this cruise.

  10. Just want to make sure the OP notices that 8586 is not in the same place on the hump as 9586.

Thanks managed to check this on the deck plan - 9586 much more central so don't anticipate the same issue with views.

I have found (from my very limited sample size) that my Caribbean cruises had louder music later in the Centrum than my NE/C and Pacific Coastal cruises. I'm assuming that a Nordic cruise would fall into the quieter group, but with all that midnight sun, who knows. [emoji6]

Have to admit did wonder the same thing but suspect the benefits of a hump cabin are worth risking a little noise.

  11. Looking at booking a Norwegian fjords cruise for August and trying to decide between D1 cabins available to us.

Considering hump cabins and would appreciate your views on noise, position and balcony size.

    Current thinking is:-

1056 - huge balcony but on port side next to elevators. Anyone have experience of this cabin for noise from the centrum or elevators? Also can you see forward at all or is it blocked by the elevators?

9586 or 9590 - both starboard side. Am I right in thinking you get less noise from the centrum here. Are both balconies standard sized and what is the better position? Although I suspect the central one would have a better view do you experience more wind here?

Any advice greatly appreciated - we have been on several cruises with Royal Caribbean but never on brilliance class or in a hump balcony.
