  1. I asked the same question on post #59 & no one seems to have the answer.

    Kind of like the MDR...

If the doors open at 6:00, there are people waiting in front of them at 5:30. And then some wait for the crowd to thin and enter a few minutes later. Those waiting at 5:30 would complain about those entering at 6:05.

I never missed a muster but got letters saying we did.

Mrs E. could not stand for long periods, or have people bumping into her. We got there on time for us, but definitely "late" as far as when others thought we should be there for the muster.

  2. Nope. It used to be that the first block was awarded at 30 cruise credits. When RCI changed to a points system, they also changed the first block award to 140 points.

    Nope...

Went from 30 cruise credits to 20 cruise credits (June 1, 2010) which changed to 140 points when those changes started.

  3. I have no idea what RCIs policy is. I don't think a glass of wine now and then would hurt anything. Either way, scorpion wasn't quite accurate in his claim a Captain woud be arrested for any detection of alcohol. He would have to be over .04 (in the US) to be illegal.

I'm with you on the .04.

I seem to remember RCCL saying "nothing within 8 hours" after the Celebrity Captain got arrested (and fired) in 2006 for O.U.I.

  4. The U.S. legal limit for commercial Captains is .04. Thats half the legal limit for you and me driving a car. So yes, they can drink, but very little. Off hand, I don't know the legal limits for the different flag states. Outside of U.S. waters, RCI Captains would be bound by Bahamian law, and then also by other nations in their waters. I dont know of any that are .00.

I thought RCCL'S policy was no alcohol for officers within 8 hours of reporting for duty.

Is the Captain ever "off duty"?

  5. I am not an IT person. Far from it. But if they gave me admin privileges to their website, I could have this problem fixed in less than 10 minutes.

If their intranet is anything like the internet on the ships it would take longer than 10 minutes just to log on.

  6. We were living in Cape Coral when he brought his HUGE KIA dealership to town, he was staying at the Marina Village Resort, which is now a Westin as you know. We bought a house on 10th on a canal that was a mile or so away from there by boat.

He's a great guy and I'm sure it's for real. He was selling 100's of cars in a very short time. $500 is still a good deal.

Unfortunately, DH didn't like CC so we sold and moved back to TX. I miss it terribly.

I do not think it is much of a deal at $500 per couple. RCI could barely get $150pp last year during December.

So having to buy a car to pay the same or more is no bargain.

In March he "gave away" $1000 to anyone buying a car. This deal is significantly less.

Plus it probably won't get the double points if rci has the december celebration this year.

  7. Plus don't forget that it's a "prize" therefore you will pay income taxes on the "rack rate" as (imputed) income. Given the hefty discounts off " rack rates " for short cruises, you can actually pay more for a " free cruise" than just buying it outright at a discount.

It should fall more under the rebate guidelines and not be taxed as a prize.

There are 3 cruises for two being given away as prizes.

  8. Yes! His dealership is in our town. I received a mailer talking about this and there are now commercials on our local TV recorded on the Majesty. In regards to selling cars, he is the #1 Kia dealer in the whole US. March 2013 he sold 1,301 cars, while the second biggest dealer in the US only sold 1,276 for the first 3 months total. Reading the fine print, buyers are responsible for taxes and fees which are estimated to be $145/pp. The free cruise is worth about $300/stateroom based on interior. Add in cost to get there, parking amd tips the free cruise will cost you about $500 per couple.

And in true car dealership form a $10 p/p document prep fee. :eek:All of which is non refundable.

  9. Yes, it is sad that in many cases the rep that answers the phone does not know so many things that a rep should know as a second nature .....

but perhaps RCCL similar to many other companies is looking at the profit margin and does not pay those reps very much ..... so maybe there is a lot of them who are new ..... and the ones that get some experience go someplace else to make more money......

I do not know this as a fact .....just guessing

But as requested, in the email you posted, the rep Paul talked to checked with resolutions, twice.

  10. I don't think people realize that about travel insurance. From an insurance company standpoint, they state that it is when you put "any" deposit money towards the trip. (certificate purchase date)

I don't think future cruise certificate is in their vocabulary. :)

This thing about Next Cruise certificates was mentioned in another thread today. If a person wants to claim that the certificate purchase date means that it is more than 6 months out to receive the extra $25 in onboard credit.....then it doesn't make sense that it would be valid for the 48 hour price guarantee. (certificate purchase date)

In a similar vein, if a person has an old certificate purchased prior to the changes, that they want to use to claim combined benefits and extended price drops, then it wouldn't be valid for the 48 hour price guarantee. (they wouldn't need it, but it would still be certificate purchase date)

If this situation should arise for our future bookings, I might call, but I don't think they are really obligated to honor it. :)

So if some booked, on the same day, a B2B using a 2 year old ncc for the first leg and a regular booking for the second, for insurance purposes, they might have a pre-existing conditon for the first leg but not the second?

  11. You could very well be right. I think an argument could be made either way concerning the NCC date. I think part of my frustration was RCI couldn't answer this for me. Despite my "goodwill gesture," I still don't know what the rule is under this scenario.

It is disappointing that you even had to explain the existence of the 48 hour price guarantee to them...twice.

Since changing terms of NCC previously purchased would seem inappropriate, maybe defining what is considered the booking date for the price guarantee might be in order.

But then RCI would have to educate the reps. ....twice....or at least once.

  12. I see what you are saying, but this isn't any sort of special discount....at least, not in the way of balcony, residency, share holders, or anything like that. It's an advertised price reduction, and not one that says "new bookings only." The way I read the 48 hour guarantee, combining discounts shouldn't even be a factor in this.

Take a look at the link provided by Clarea. It seems pretty straight forward. But maybe I'm missing something.

I'm just saying the fcc purchase date not the booking date was used as a basis for applying multiple discounts.

Since they use the term "reserving" in the disclaimer I tend to side with you.

Many times we would book within 48 hours of sailing, have a price drop, then have to deal with it like you did. OBC wouldn't do us any good. The cruise would be over by the time they figured it out.

  13. Since you are a person of reason, I offer the following suggestion as to why you should not have received the credit.

Many times in the past people purchased FCC and used the argument they purchased the prior to the no combining discount policy. Those got to combine discounts.

Maybe RCI is just being consistent with their policies.

Yeah, yeah....I know, before someone even says it.:)

  14. For those of us who MISSED the apparently-epic "Starfish Thread" can someone at least explain why it was even called the "STARFISH" thread?

2 single women shared a cabin. They did not know each other. The t/a matched them up.

One brought a live starfish on board and kept it in the shower.. It died. It smelled really bad. They room mates fought over keeping or discarding the starfish. It was eventually removed by guest services. The two fought over it even to the extent where one tried to stab the other with a fork while they slept.

One came in CC to "explain their side"

And well, you would have had to read the lengthy thread to get the full effects.

The thread was pulled and I founded the starfish society.

  15. I must have joined here just after the Starfish escapade. I've heard many references to it wish I had seen it for myself.

I copied the thread (and the 3 followups) on my desktop but the hard drive died. A place in California restored the data but I have to pay $450 to get it back. I not sure it is worth that much. Maybe I should start a collection.:D

  16. I sure hope they had the ship exactly where the charts/harbor master/ or even pilot directed it to be, at least that would give the captain some breathing room. Since the Jewel had been there before without problems, I wonder what was different this time. Somewhere in my stuff I have the air draft for the Radiance of 173' and the ship/graph on nautical cities seems to in somewhat agreement with that figure for the Jewel. Could the cable clearance been changed somehow? Oh well, I hope it all can be explained without someone left to twist in the wind.

We were on the Jewel in 2010 when it snagged a 2' diameter 1000' long pipe going into Columbia. It had broke free while being towed and was sitting just under the waterline. That crash stop at around 5 am was an attention getter.

Obviously yesterday's incident is another case of something being where it wasn't supposed to be. Time will tell whether it was the wire or the ship.
