Have you already completed the online check in  with NCL?  I was trying to buy the Soda Package for my kids (which is less than for adults) and there wasn't an option for me to do it.  I called NCL and they said that since I hadn't completed the online check in yet, everyone in the reservation had defaulted to 33 years old.  There wasn't an option for the kids soda package because they didn't think there were any kids.  Same thing for excursions - we were being charged the adult price because it looked like we were all 33.  NCL did allow me to cancel and rebook excursions for the correct price.  Maybe they are charging you for the infant for the same reason...

Thank you!! I’ll try that and hope it updates.

  2. We are booking the train directly. It’s a very short walk from the pier to the depot. I’m still looking at the logistics for the whale watching. It’s also the principle of knowing that they shouldn’t be charging that amount, especially when questioned about it.

  3. I am in the process of booking excursions for our Alaskan cruise in NCL Joy. LO is two (2) years old. Both the whale watching in Juneau and train in Skagway consider her an infant and FREE. I verified on their websites and via phone. I called NCL since they’re charging for her tickets. Approximately $200 for both excursions. NCL stated they charged the same as the company and that these companies did not consider her free. I have screenshots from the websites. Any suggestions on not being price gouged by NCL? I understand transfers for the the whale watching, but she’s two and would be in a parent’s or grandparent’s lap.

  4. DH and I will be sailing with our daughter in June to Alaska. She will be 15 mo at time of sailing. Both sets of grandparents are going as well. It will be my in-laws first cruise, but multiple times for myself, DH, and my parents.

We chose Alaska so we'd still be in the US (mainly for my in-laws, not our daughter). Also, it allows DH and I the option of skipping excursions since we've been before.

    So a few questions:

    1. Did you take a car seat? If you schedule transfers on the NCL buses, can you anchor a car seat? Same for excursions.

    2. Are you able to request a play pen for LO or did you allow them to sleep with you?

    3. Any other helpful tips?

    Thanks in advance.

  5. We've done Alaska three times and enjoyed the trip. So we wanted to do something different this time. DH and I are in our late 30's and my parents are early 70's. We enjoy culture, history, and scenery.

The thing we really enjoyed about Alaska was the wildlife and the glaciers. Granted any excuse to go to Europe is always welcome.

Thank you both for your great insight!!

  6. We are trying to decide between a Norway cruise and a South American that does the Chilean Fjords. How do they compare? We've done Alaska and enjoyed it, but wanted to explore elsewhere.

It seems Norway has more waterfalls than Alaska. However, South America seems to have glaciers, waterfalls, and penguins.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  8. If it would make you feel better, there are some travel insurance plans that will pay for you to catch you up to the ship if you were to miss the boat. We had one a few years back when we weren't sure if we'd run into issues. Thankfully didn't use it. I'm sorry I don't remember the company. Again, depends on the cost savings for the overall purchase.

  9. Do you remember the price? We paid $150 on Holland and NCL. Also, did you have any problems with the loungers being heated? What time did you board? We plan to board early afternoon and didn't know if passes would still be available? Thank you in advance.

  10. If you enjoy the spa treatment on the boat, go for it. It's vacation [emoji3]

Check your flexible spending account rules. DH and I just submit our bill when we get home and are reimbursed. Something I hadn't considered before was checking groupon for deals in port. We're doing our first cruise where we aren't planning an excursion in each port and I've found a lot of good deals for tours, restaurants, and spas. Just be sure you check the location if you want to go that route.

    Enjoy your pampering!!
