  1. There are posts about the specific ammenities which come up for Sheraton (3 stars on Hotwire) and in the Old San Juan Sheraton thread in this San Juan forum.

The ammenities and area are the keys to knowing which hotel you are bidding on with Hotwire. Note, Sheraton is not a resort and no beach around it.

    Good luck !

  2. I apologize for not having written my review. I had actually started it at work on Friday. And then I was fired.

Well sorry to hear that..... but you did post that you returned to work from being off a week and had no work......

I still haven't started writing up my review. In fact, I still haven't finished unpacking. And yet I have to sit at my desk with no work to do. Sigh.

Seems as if that's the economy these days.

  3. It depends on what category you are purchasing. If inside, then very likely it will be an obstructed view (very obstructed). I don't think there are any ocean view or balcony cabins with an obstructed view. The forward facing cabins do have an obstructed view, but they are cat 4, which is an inside category, and you would expect an inside cabin to be obstructed. The lifeboats are not outside any cabins. So on this ship, if you book an ocean view or balcony cabin guarantee, I don't think you can end up with an obstructed view.

Here is a picture of a forward facing cabin ...

Look out now, you're gonna start an issue with posting a picture of the so called, but misnamed (in my opinion) "secret decks" accessed thru "secret doors".

  4. We are going to be in San Juan on Sat, 5-16-09. We are staying at the Sheraton Old San Juan. If you look at the shots on this thread from the ship looking back at San Juan the Sheraton is a creamy/yellowish hotel to the left. People have posted that they were charge extra fees when they went to check out. But they all seem to have booked with Priceline, Hotwire ect. We have booked directly with the Sheraton (paid a little more) but we haven't found anyone who did that has had the extra charges.

As for the precruise excurrsions, MY personal belief is that you would be better off to book them thru the hotel. Once you have made your reservations, contact the hotel directly and they can help you out.

Being from Denver I KNOW exactly what you mean about the weather in Mid December. You will have a blast. DW and I think about a Christmas/New Year cruise every year. Just haven't done it yet.

Sheraton has a resort fee, I believe it is $8.95. A resort fee is very common in PR from what I have read.

I am staying at the Sheraton OSJ in Sept 2009. I am expecting to pay a resort fee. Since every other hotel there is also charging resort fees, it's no big deal.

My $113 Hotwire price beats the $300 Sheraton price, even with the resort fee tacked on.

  5. I don't wanna be losing any good pictures when those sinna (?) pictures go through the x-ray.:p

    sinna ???

Are you speaking of digital pictures on a memory card ?

Only film is affected by Xrays, not memory cards or digital images.

  6. I use a Nikon D60 but I'm looking to move up to a D90.

I see a D90 body only advertised in the U.S. for about 330

Anyone out there coming down soon ..who might bring it to Barbados for me?

    .

Look out for that website. It may be one of those with hundreds of complaints on it.

Make sure you Google it for others comments first....

They try to upsell you will tons of add-ons. If you don't buy the addons, they put your order on backorder... forever.....

  8. How close to my vacation can I wait to start bidding on Priceline?

Our cruise is the end of September, we want to stay 2 days pre-cruise and 1 day post-cruise. Is there any chance that I might not be able to get rooms if I wait until August?

    Thanks

    Donna

Depends if you want a specific hotel or not.

If you want a specific place, I wouldn't wait that long...

  9. Well, I put in 3 people and scored the Sheraton for $113 before taxes. I called the hotel directly and asked if there would be an issue if only 2 showed up and she said the only way I would have an issue is if more people showed up than what I booked for. I am really happy and I want to thank you for your help. :)

Good deal. I never thought about trying 3 (Dummy me)

  10. I wonder why it won't come up on hotwire with 2 in a room. When I looked on the Sheraton site a few options came up, at a much higher rate of course. I just don't want any problems at check in. What do you think?

When I booked ours, we had 4 persons in 1 room, so it came up. I know there is some sort of a resort fee added on at check-in (I saw a post where someone posted it was $8.95 for Sheraton).

I would say if the rate is significantly less than the direct reservation rate on Sheraton site (which it was for us to the tune of about $200 difference) then go for it. The "might" try to charge you the resort fee for 4 people, but it's still a great savings.

You could always say 2 people cancelled or you hit 4 by mistake instead of 2.

As long as you show up to sleep in the room, to me (my opinion) I don't see it as a big deal, but that's just my opinion...

After all, you are gonna be right in downtown Old San Juan and if you're on Carnival, right across the street. Watch the ship come in in the morning, sit and have breakfast on the patio across from the pier and walk your luggage over when you see people start to arrive to get a place in line to board. Doesn't get much better than that...

  11. I have never used priceline or hotwire before and I have been reading tips on how to identify Sheraton Old San Juan. I am looking to stay there Sept. 19-20 and there are only 3 hotels that come up in the San Juan area on hotwire and only one is a 3 star, but does not include a casino or tennis nearby in the amenities. Any advice? TIA

You say you want to stay Sept 19-20. I assume your ship leaves Sunday, so one night, Saturday, Sept 19 th.

I put your info into Hotwire, got this..... had to put 1 room with 4 people to get what I believe is SHeraton Old San Juan to come up. Maybe they are sold out of rooms with 1 bed. Anyway, this is the display and icons I saw when I got the Sheraton.... same $$$ also as my night.

(I got this figured out with a whole lot less info than you now have)

No guarantees, but I believe it is the Sheraton.... Good luck if you decide to do it.

Probably not the Sheraton then. There is another thread on this board on the Sheraton.

  13. We want a room at the Sheraton Old San Juan pre cruise, 11/13 and 11/14. I've used Priceline several times in the past with great results. I've also gone to betterbidding and I'm not sure I understand. If I do use Priceline and put in 3 1/2 stars, is it possible that I might end up with the Embassy Suites (same star rating) OR the Sheraton Old San Juan? We definitely want to be in Old San Juan so I am a little hesitant about proceeding.

I would like to get the Sheraton Old San Juan for Feb./18-Feb./21/2010, if I do 3.5 will I get it or The Normandie,

    Thanks
