  1. We have put a hold on 2 cruises, one with each, for 2 weeks in Aus/NZ.

The Holland America has a couple port stops in Aus before sailing to NZ. The Princess cruise is just NZ except it leaves from Aus.

We held a mini suite on Princess that includes their Prime Premier so includes everything. D732 is the stateroom.

On Holland America, we choose a balcony with everything included. We liked the idea of sitting on our balcony and watching from the rear of the ship. We choose stateroom 8141.

Would love to hear opinions on which direction these old folks should go. We are pretty easy going so it's not like we require an adults only cruise.

    Thank you

  2. We are thinking of booking Holland America to Aus/NZ and have a question about covid requirements. One cruise line, Princess, tells us that we have to be tested 2 days before getting on board down there. Holland America says as long as we're up to date on boosters, that's all they need.

Is this all true? The Princess rep seems to be reading from a script when we spoke. Holland America rep was extremely nice but didn't seem to know much about it either.

Would appreciate help. And sorry for intruding on your post.

  3. Hi gang,

I've been away from all the forums for a while. Cancer is a B....

Anyway, my wife and I are planning an Australia and New Zealand cruise for the first part of 2025.

With their recent financial stories, would you book a future cruise with Virgin for this destination?

    Thank you

  4. We sailed the Reflection a few weeks ago and before leaving, read on cruise critic that getting some silverware from MDR was a good idea in case this happened.
We were in Blu and asked our waiter the first day if we could each take a set back to our cabin in case we caught Covid. He said it would be brought to our cabin.

About an hour later, we went back to our cabin and found a set for each of us plus 2 water glasses and 2 coffee cups.
Thankfully, never had to use them.

Yes, you can certainly hire a taxi but you will need to negotiate a price. It would likely cost you several hundred Euros.   We have often just rented a car for the day which used to be about 50 euros.  There are quite a few small rental car agencies with offices in Fira, but it is always best to reserve in advance.  We have also noticed some smaller ATVs and a few 3 wheeled open vehicles on the roads and assume they can also be rented from local agencies.

Last August we had a difficult time finding a rental car and googled

several local agencies before finally getting a rental.  Driving on the island is not difficult except around Oia and Fira.

    Thanks for the great info

I do not know the current cost but 35 Euros per person would be a guesstimate.  The folks that sell the boat trip are on the pier where you dock on arrival.  The price used to include a mini bus transfer from the dock below Oia, up the hill to the town.  They also would give you a bus ticket for transfer back to Fira.

There are also normal public buses between Fira and Oia although they only run once or twice an hour.  Finding a taxi at Oia is hit/miss so not wise if you are on a tight schedule.  Getting a taxi in Fira is much easier since there is a large taxi parking area near the Fira bus station about a 10-15 min walk from the top cable car station.

Anyone ever hire a taxi for the day? If so, how much did you pay? Thanks
