Boarded the Spirit in Venice today. We arrived at the pier at about 1215pm. I would say it took until about 1pm until we were actually on board between checking in, security screening and queuing to handover passports and we were able to go straight to our room at this time.

I don't think we are able to get the powdered ones in the UK. I will try ncl but not holding out much hope for a straight answer. I may just risk it for a couple of £ if they get confiscated.

Can anyone tell me with the recent changes to taking drinks on board whether you are still able to take there little bottles of water enhancers on to make the on board to make the water drinkable for my daughter?!

Our first cruise was with our then 18 month old to the Baltics. I can highly recommend alla tours who let us put together our own tour in a private mini van. They even provided a car seat and water. We did all the main sights including the underground and a hydrofoil ride.

Thankyou all very much for your comments. Our favourite line so far has been Celebrity so it is good to know HAL is comparable to them.

We were planning on taking advantage of the pools during some port days but I know she is so used to going to kids club for a few hours every day she would really miss it.

This really is the last availability in the med in august this year so other lines are not possible.

Yes agreed I suppose it depends if there are a lot of Europeans on board as it is a cruise out of Venice.

We are seasoned cruisers but never travelled with Holland America and have been looking at an itinerary on 16th August departing from Venice. Just contacted my travel agent to get a price for this cruise and she has really put me off sailing.

She tells me that HAL is a very formal cruise line and really not suitable for children as the kids club is only open on sea days or if enough kids sign up on port days.

The formality I am OK with but our big issue would be with kids club. My daughter absolutely loves them and it really makes her holiday to go to kids club ( this would be her 8th cruise) so to not have it open all day would be a no no. We have been to a couple of the ports already so would be taking advantage of the ship facilities in port hence the question re kids club.

Can anyone give me insight into the kids facilities aboard and whether given its august and the height of school holidays that all facilities should be open.

In case anyone has a similar query I asked at guest services as soon as I boarded and they gave me a box to select an adapter. Filled in a receipt and will just return at the end of the cruise for no charge. Excellent service!
