  1. Just returned form my First and quite possibly last NCL cruise. Ill break it down to the Readers Digest version.

Cabin, Mini Suite, large room great balcony tons of storage, what is with NCL putting the toilet, shower and sink in the sleeping area. Weird. Crew, very unfriendly, if I got a smile it was forced, Buffet, constantly running out of food, attendants did not seem to notice or care. Condiments for buffet were depleted and not replenished, Coffee machines, NEVER worked for breakfast. Ignored by 2 Maitre'd's while I was trying to check in for Specialty dining. (The ones you have to pay extra for???) Soda package was a total loss. You only get a 8 oz plastic cup filled with ice for your beverage, Everywhere not just in the pool decks, so you only get about 5 oz of soda. Then wait and wait till the bar tender wants to notice you to get another. No instructions for disembarkation in my cabin, Luggage tags were only in guest service area and that was two days before the end of the cruise. Good luck on which one you choose and where to meet for debarkation. Maybe this works for some but for me NCL is Never Again

  2. Just a FYI. It might just be because of bad servers or a new rule I was not aware of, but if you are dining SOLO the wine is served to you, but then the bottle is taken away and never seen again. Thought this was a little odd, but happened to me twice on two different ships. Maybe its a SOLO thing????

  3. I got the same email for my 8/22 Freedom cruise. Ill let you know if they actually do show me to my cabin. Do they even have enough staff to do this??

and before you ask. I am in a 1A cabin platinum member. So I get on the ship earlier, that might be when they show me to my cabin (Like after 29 cruises I wouldn't be able to find it)?

  4. What cabin number did you have I have reasons for asking.

I am sorry you got so sick and trust me I know what it is like because I can't have gluten, dairy, eggs as well as other things.

Cabin M203 high pitched oscilating noise and strong smell of sewage

    Moved to M102

Never had ant egg, dairy issues before. I think it was the processing that was the problem or the water from the lemonade

  5. Hmmm. I just signed up for the Cheese and Wine Tour. It's relatively new with 5 stars from several reviews. At this point I no longer get off the ship at Ensenada but planned this excursion because of the reviews. I may reconsider now. I'm sailing on the Imagination again in a few weeks. Thanks for the review.

Just because I got a hold of badly manufactured possibly spoiled cheese. The education and graciousness of the host, would be a great reason to go. The scenery along the way is breathtaking.

  6. 1/29/15 Imagination:

The Good, Bad and the Cheesy:

Having cruised over 27 times on Carnival and attaining the Platinum status, they threw us “West Coasters” a bone recently and allowed us to cruise for $25pp for an interior or $35 for an OV cabin and threw in OBC of $25pp. So the incentive to cruise for the flight and taxes made the deal a sweet one that I could not pass up. The Ship, the Imagination was as I remembered her, passenger count at max was 3000 but this sailing (Being only a 2 day cruise) was undersold with a total passenger count of 2093.

The check in was very fast and easy, the wait to board was pleasant. I got to the port, checked in the VIP Lounge @ 10:00 am and was on the ship, in my cabin @ 11:39. It was when I entered the cabin that my senses were a little jangled. Something was wrong, subtle clues but nothing I could pinpoint. So IO unpacked and headed to the buffet for lunch. Returning to my cabin after sail away the problems became all too obvious. There was a lingering light scent of urine, mixed with a slight sewage smell to round off the bouquet. And to make things worse there was a constant high pitched whine in the cabin. Now this was not just a whine that was one tone, this was oscillating high and low. I could drown out a single tone with the TV if I needed to bet this was not tolerable. Guest services was called, representative was sent to my cabin. Very pleasant man who tried to give me the “Usual Cabin Sound” song and dance. I looked at him and kindly said Cruising in over 27 cabins I have never stayed in one with a high pitched warble nor smell of stench that permeated the cabin. A supervisor was called. I was moved. First night all was well, I thought. The process of switching my Sail and Sign card took 30 minutes at Guest services and was finally completed the next day.

Ensenada was the only port, and I booked through the Carnival site the Cheese and Wine tasting. Before I go too far into the description of the “After Affects” of this tour I must say, that the tour was very informative, the host Pedro was fantastic, he took the time to know each of us by name and answer any questions. The Cheese manufacturing plant seemed very clean and tidy, not the same for the cows outside as they all seemed to be knee deep in a muck mixture when they were not in the pasture. I also discovered that in Mexico they do not pasteurize their milk for cheese. (hmmm should have been a clue right there) But the presentation, taste and hospitality of the excursion was great. The problem came about 4 hours after the cheese tasting and meal we ate there. About 4 hours later I was confined to the bathroom with an issue at both ends. That is as much details as I need to provide. Called the Ships Doctor, got an exam, got some anti-nausea and diarrhea medication. After I filled out the Federal forms (Noro-Virus) the visit was free. Still was a rough night with little restful sleep…the last one of the cruise.

Check out. Well self assist is self assist, but I did not receive a final bill. I am almost certain that it arrived at my old cabin but I didn’t check. I just wanted to get off the ship and get home.

So to sum it up, The ship was mostly clean, guest services were cordial and accommodating and the new show was AMAZING. It was the highlight of the cruise. I did reserve a seat for the Chefs Table but the Cheese and Wine tasting souvenir, caused me to cancel that event.

  7. You are 100% correct, however I will never understand why they use cans instead of fountain soda. Fountain syrup is extremely cheap and must be much cheaper than cans. They must have some reason that I cannot see.

I asked this question to the "Beards" once they told me it was because the canned soda is always the same mixture and does not have to be adjusted. I am certain it also has to do with some profit and loss for using fountain vs cans.

  8. That is the question.

I have been on several B2B cruises and attended all Muster Drills. I make a game out of it. For example during the first part of the cruise one of the social 20 something's made a comment that he would bestow a gift to anyone who saw him wear his funky sunglasses during the cruise. Well I did not see him in the public areas on the first half, but during the 2nd Muster Drill I zinged him with a spotting of him in those ridiculous glasses and was the proud wearer of some shiny carnivale beads. Se, so I added a bit of fun and "snap" the jobs a game.

  9. As mentioned free wine was also served on my visit to the Steakhouse, this was on the 2nd night of the cruise "Formal Night" I ordered the white wine. One note of information. If you dine SOLO at the steakhouse on free wine night you will not be able to take the bottle with you. Your glass is filled when needed but the bottle was never left at the table. Nor was it available "To Go' as others have mentioned. This happened on the Dream also so it must be a SOLO diner rule.

  10. Medicineball;

Congrats on your first SOLO cruise. I love love love being a SOLO cruiser...But enough about why I like it I am here to tell you about your dining situation.

First you MUST talk to the Maitred before. Let them know that you are SOLO and want a large with a great server. Then let them handle it. Depending on what time you dine, you may or may not be at a table with others you have met before. If you become fast friends you can coordinate dining times and eat together. I am very gregarious and like a lively table for my evening meal. So different table mates for me is not a problem. But you will have to tell the Maiterd the same info every night till they get it.

Just remember a cruise is what YOU make of it. Take every opportunity to make lemonade out of every seemingly bad experience and you will be just fine.

  11. This will be a short but informative review about my Canival Spirit adventure. Alaska was calling me, no not Bali High as in the South Pacific song, but calling me to discover all she was, is and will be. This cruise clebrated my 25th Milestone cruise on Carnval, so I decided to Break the piggy bank, and do it up big for this trip. The cost of the cruise and every excursion were the highest I had ever paid in my cruising career. Most of the excursions were over $100 most close to the $200 range. So the 25% cruise fare OBC came in very handy. I have cruised on the Spirit before and know she is indeed a very beautiful vessel and most of the crew seemed to show this on this cruise. The CD Stu...was fantastic, he was funny, informative, and available, but not ovedone like some CD's can be. The naturalist on board, Michelle was very talkative, and educational, so it balanced out the chatter.

At the pier...Seattle pier is very low key, right up front, warehouse style of pier. No seperate waiting area for VIP, but it moved very, very fast once you checked in. Check in, well this is where I nearly had my first meltdown. I did not get my milestone card from the agent. When I asked her about my special card she said " What is Milestone, I have never heard of that". I knew guest services could fix this once on board, so I breathed through it and boarded the ship. Cabin, I chose a french Door Obstructed view cabin #4133. the French doors were really only "A" french door since only one of them opened. The view was between the lifeboats #5 and #7 so I got some ocean view from straight on only. The new TV's LCD flat panels were great, the color and size were perfect. I liked the way it played a tune when it was turned on or off. And the on board menu of folio, movies, menu, shore excursions etc. was much better than some of the lesser equiped ships.

Shows...All shows were versions of the same ones I had seen time after time on my other cruises, there were 4 main singers all very talented. The dancers, well as usual, they need to understand the meaning of synchronised movements..."You sre supposed to ALL turn, flip, twist etc at the same time".

Shore excursions, besides being astronomical in price, some of mine were cancelled the day before they were supposed to be done, and Victoria was cancelled for everyone. This aggrivated me because I had planned and researched them online and booked way in advance. The other problem was crediting my cancelation of the tours to my account. Even though they (Carnival) cancelled my tour they did not credit my account till I pestered them about it, and even had to surrender my tickets to them before the credit showed up on my folio. The other Non-Cancelled tours I took were Tracy Arm Excursion, This was a medium sized catamaran that took up to the Sayer glacier, waterfalls, icebergs and cruised the Tracy Arm Fjord. The Best of Juneau included whale watching, the Mendenhall Glacier, and a fantastic Salmon Grill. Well worth the extra money for everything I saw and the Salmon was devine. In Ketchikan I went on athe Wilderness expedition and Crab Feast. So this photo says it all. I am the one in the morror taking the photo. The caption should read...Yes sir I did eat all that crab..https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-_6w2NpxKmeI/T7xBCl_NTmI/AAAAAAAAHZo/wjmsAAZxVKY/w343-h228-n-k/IMG_2060.jpg

Steakhouse. Well this should have been the crowning gem of my adventure but alas i was anything but. The food was exellent, but the service was very poor. An example, If you have to ask 3 servers to fill your ice tea glass...Not a good sign, If 3 servers ask you if you would like pepper on both your soup and cesar salad, and the 4th server finally brings it to you half way through the course...not a good sign. Lastly when you order a side dish and it never arrives...you guessed it..So with some well placed "Team Building" constructive criticism my 2 1/2 hour gastronomnical meal was reduced to 45 minutes of good food sucky service.

    Victoria...

Never got there the winds to port the ship were too strong so the whole stop was cancelled.

The Bar service, Cabin Service, wait staff, especially Kaarina the Asst. Maiter'd were superb. Recognition of my milestone from the crew....Nothing said, no welcome back, Wow that is incredible, hope to see you again...NADA. I guess the memo about doting on Milestone memebers was not distributed yet...LOL

All in all this was one cruise I won't soon forget and have many photos to insert on my next posting if you guys want them. And I find out how to post them???

  12. On my last trip to Ensenada I was hassled by the Mexican screeners before you enter the cruise terminal. They confiscated my prescription bottle of pills I brought from home to check prices. Do you argue with the man with the gun or just let him take your meds???

Won't make that mistake again. Belize Cancun and Roatan are much better places to get scripts filled.
