  1. For those of you who have experience:  I'm looking at two HA excursions and am debating if I should book them.

    1) "Sailing on the Bras D'OR Lakes" at our stop in Sydney $160

    2) "Discover the Fjord Secrets" at our stop in Saguenay.  $170  This port seem to have so much interest and taking this excursion would take the entire port visit time.  I am in a quandary and would appreciate advice from those who have been there/done that.

  2. I haven't looked at this in a long time, but have them send you a copy of the insurance that is underwritten by the insurance company. It sounds like this is not on their website, but something you would need to request. Alternately see if you can get a copy from the third part insurer. I agree the 24 hours leading up to departure is tricky. In fact most people are in transit.

I have asked several times and they refuse to send a copy of the insurance that is underwritten by the insurance company and they refuse to put what they say verbally in writing. I have also called the insurance provider and they will not discuss the coverage in advance of the travel.

  3. What some people are not getting is that prior to 24 hours this was not insurance that was purchased. The platinum in HAL's Platinum is not insurance at all but protection by HAL so that the Cabin can be canceled with a 90% refund. All of this can be found on the website. It is not specific to cancellations for medical reasons. The insurance for covered reasons that is underwritten by an insurance company does not kick in until 24 hours prior to departure.

The problem I have is that I've been told verbally by HA that if one passenger cancels within the 24 hour period prior to departure, then the other passenger is not responsible for single supplement. I am unable to confirm that anywhere on the website for HA. I know that prior to the 24 hour period there is a single supplement but I can't find verbiage on their site regarding the second passenger when the first passenger cancels within the 24 hour time frame.

  4. I've just spent over three hours on the phone with Holland America. When my travel companion's son called to cancel her reservation because she is in Intensive Care, he was told that my reservation has to be canceled also OR that I have to pay for her cruise since I'd be alone.

We had bought the most comprehensive insurance from Holland America (Platinum) at the time we booked but that has no bearing when one person has to cancel.

As a last resort I was told that if she cancels her air now and waits until 24 hours before sailing time (Buenos Aires time) and cancels the cruise then, I could still sail and not have to pay for her share. The fact that she is in Intensive Care and may be unable to do that does not concern them. They will not give that in writing so I would have to take my chances on one agent's word, fly to Buenos Aires and HOPE that I would still have a cruise reservation and HOPE that I would not be charged for her cruise. That leaves too much to chance.

So I see no alternative but to cancel my own reservation entirely. HA will give back only 90% of what was paid and I will lose the hotel I had prepaid and tours I had prepaid. I'm angry with HA because we were never told that if one person had to cancel, the other person would be penalized.

Lesson learned: paying for their premium policy does not give protection to a travel companion if one person has to cancel

  5. I rented a Pride Go-Go Elite before I bought mine, it was good that I got to take a 1 week test ride before spending the 1k on it.

My friend and I are cruising on Holland America departing Buenos Aires, Argentina and ending in Santiago, Chile. The scooter rental company told her that because we depart from one country and end the cruise in another country, they will not rent the scooter to her.

Has anyone encountered this problem and how did you solve it (other than buying your own and bringing it)?

  6. It's per my CAS rep (I'd share his name but don't want to get him in trouble). I have kept close watch on my tier qualifying points since the new program began, and made Golden in last May 2013 on the Breakaway, with the points combined from two "qualifying years" (sailings in May 2013 and May 2012) -it was my first sailing in the "new qualifying year" and I did not make the 15,001 points needed on that sailing alone. I accrued more in Jan 2014, and again in Mar 2014, totaling roughly 35k points. On April 1, 2014, the points from my May 2012 sailing dropped off (but not the May 2013 or 2014 sailings) and my tier balance is now 26,320. The points I earn next week on the Jewel will (per my rep) be added to that cumulative total and would bump me back up to VIP if I make 9000 more points.

In the beginning it didn't seem like it was supposed to work this way, but that's the way it appears to be working currently. Hope it's not a mistake that they will correct now that I have posted it! I'll be watching closely next week on the Jewel and report back what happens, just in case it turns on me.:D

I've asked CAS when booking a cruise what my points are and was told they could not give me that information. How can I find my points? I know I'm hot but think I should be close to golden. I have 3 more NCL cruises booked this year.

    Thanks

  7. I'm also flying into Copenhagen on September 19th and leaving on a cruise September 22nd. NCL Star? I think we're both on the same ship. I'm flying/cruising with my Sister In Law and leaving Ft. Lauderdale on Norwegian Air. Now....trying to find a reasonable hotel that's centrally located as well. I'll be watching this thread!

We meet again - we chatted on the Star CC page. I am live in Jupiter and will be on the same flight and cruise with you and your SIL. If we decide on the same hotel it would be nice if we could share transportation to and from the hotel. I'll be anxious to see any replies we get here. My email is franperry4 at aol dot com

  8. I would greatly appreciate hotel suggestions for three nights in Copenhagen. I will be arriving from the USA the morning of Septemer 19, 2014 and leaving on a cruise September 22.

I am an older woman traveling alone and would like to be centrally located in the city but accessable from the airport to the hotel and from the hotel to the cruise port.

Thank you so much for any advice you can offer.
