  1. The disembarkation was chaotic. I think more and more people are opting for the walk off and it is not organized. I have done this in the past with little negative experiences. The cruise director staff member in Bliss had no idea what was going on and people were getting frustrated being outside with no information.

The cruise director was Mark and he was ok. He was barely visible. I may have seen him a few times throughout the cruise. I have been on other cruises and the CD has made him/herself available to passengers.

Marjoram and Francisco are excellent bartenders at Shaker's. they greeted us each day and took great care of us. We enjoyed Le Bistro, Cagney's, and La Cucina. The food and beverage director was fantastic and they always accommodated my vegetarian diet in all restaurants, including the specialty restaurants.

  2. We had a fantastic time as well and we were disappointed about GSC. The water seemed so calm in GSC and I don't know why we could not tender. The disembarkation was by far the worst I have ever experienced.. we were in the first group and we were stuck on deck 7 for almost an hour in he cold and rain. I think someone or multiple people were arrested. We saw several people being escorted off. Y local authorities in NYC. I felt like the crew could have done a better job of keeping us informed.

  3. We leave on the Gem on Saturday. We have sailed on the Breakaway a few times, but we are excited to sail on the Gem after hearing many positive reviews. Please share any inside information or tips, favorite moments, things not to be missed, etc. from your past experiences on the Gem.

  4. Good Morning.... Although we have sailed out of NYC in the past, we have not parked at the pier. We are leaving on the Gem on Saturday and I recall hearing others mention a coupon for parking at the pier. Does anyone know if this still exists and where it can be downloaded, etc.? This will be our first time on the Gem. We have sailed Breakaway several times.

  5. I booked a tender group as soon as I was on the ship and we were in group A. We arrived at GSC early and they called our group at 8:50. We were on the beach by 9:30. Shorts and casual resort wear is fine anywhere with exception of Cagney' and Ocean Blue where pants and shorts are required.

  6. I am a vegetarian and I have sailed on Breakaway three times. I never have an issue in the buffet, main dining room, or specialty restaurant. At times, I will speak with the maitre d the night before a specialty restaurant and inform them of my dietary preferences. They have always accommodated me.

  7. I was on the Breakaway a few months ago and most of the martinis were included in the UBP. It looks like the prices increased on some of the martinis. I am sailing in a few weeks and I assume that I only need to pay the extra amount past the $15... also, any idea how much just a traditional cosmo was?

  8. Is Ocean Blue part of the specialty restaurant plan for the UDP?

I am confused as I saw I can book it for my upcoming cruise for $17.70 per person it says (on the NCL website), but then it makes a note that things are a la carte? Is there a price on top of the $17.70? I love seafood so hoping to check this out, but would prefer to book before boarding if I can!

I have cruised with Dan Dan before & also was not impressed with him. Found he was not around ship much & that was on a smaller jewel ship too.

Ocean Blue is part of the UDP but you do need to pay $17.70 per person. If you pay the $17.70 per person and you have the UDP you can order anything from the menu. I am glad that I am not the only person who had an unfavorable impression of Dan Dan.

  9. Thank you for all the information! With Spice H20 do you need to get there early to get a chair ? I know at the main pool people have wrote that you need to be there early to grab a chair so I was just wondering about that area.

Any specialty resturants ? If so which ones did you like the best?

    Thanks

    Ann

We went to Ocean Blue, Cagney's, Teppanyaki, and La Cucina. We enjoyed Ocean Blue and Cagney's the best. I am a vegetarian, but gave the maitre d a days notice and at both Ocean Blue and Cagney's, they made a great vegetarian entree for me. Great service at the specialty restaurants.

  10. How was the variety of food options in the buffet? When we sailed on Breakaway for a CTN and the Getaway to the Caribbean last year, we felt the buffet food was pretty much the same every day. Do they change the food variety more nowadays?

There was touch variety of offerings in the buffet for breakfast and lunch. We ate in the MDR one morning for breakfast and we often ate at Uptown Grill for lunch. They have great burgers and salads at Uptown Grill. I would recommend Spice H2O during the day as it is much quieter and more peaceful than the main pool area.

  11. Glad you had a great time! I would like to know if there were many kids on board? My family will being on the breakaway in May and was curious about how many children, even tho we plan to be at the aft of the ship where the adults are! :D

Oh how was the dress code for the specialty restaurants? and the buffet/ main dining rooms ?

Any other info or tips that you think might help would be greatly appreciated...

There were some kids on the cruise along with a number of college students for spring break. However, the ship is large and you never feel crowded. It seemed like many of the kids were involved in kids activities with Splash Academy. The dress code is relaxed and casual. They ask for no shorts in the dining room and specialty restaurant. However, we saw people with shorts each night. I wore khakis and either a polo or a dress shirt each night, but you can get away with a more casual look.

  12. We will be boarding Breakaway next week. Who was the Cruise Director? How was the weather? How smooth or not smooth were the sea conditions? I have heard of long lines, how was the tendering ashore process at Great Stirrup Cay?

We had a wonderful cruise. The weather was good and we had smooth sailing. The waves were minimal. Sail away was chilly and it was a little cold on Monday morning and Saturday. The temps were in the 70's and approaching 80 in the Bahamas. Friday was gorgeous and a great pool day as we were off the coast of Florida most of the day. Be sure to book a tender group through the NCL concierge app. they use 4 tenders and each one holds several hundred passengers. GSC was beautiful. Dan was the cruise director and I was disappointed win him and e cruise director staff. Dan was not out and about much and I hardly ever saw him talking with passengers. The cruise director and assistant cruise director, Luz, we're not energetic.

  13. We are sailing in Nov. First time on NCL, coming from Carnival. Getting on and off the boat, how was it? Can we make a noon flight form Miami after the cruise?

Does NCL offer a service like "Faster to the fun" that Carnival sells?

It is easy to get on and off the ship. They have things down to a science. I do the self assist walk off where you carry your own bags off the ship. I left the ship at 7:40 this morning and walked right through customs and out to the street. I was back home in PA by 9:45.

  14. Hi there. We're sailing on her on April 3. Any overall impressions of crowds and service on your cruise? Generally a positive experience?

I was on the Jewel about 4 years ago, and definitely enjoyed myself. I see that you too sailed the Jewel. Did you like the Breakaway more, less or the same?

Thanks for your offer to answer questions!

This was my second time on Breakaway and I enjoyed both cruises. The ship is large and there are several places to go without being overcrowded. The only exception is the pool area. In my opinion, the pool area is too small for a ship that size. We had great services on both cruises. I was underwhelmed with the the cruise director and his staff on this particular cruise. Overall, the cruise was a positive experience. I enjoyed both the Jewel and the Breakaway.

  15. I have sailed NCL in the past and most recently in the fall. Can anyone tell me if there are any recent changes to room service ? I know there is a charge for most items, but what about coffe or continental breakfast like items in the morning? When I was on Breakaway in the fall, there was not a charge for coffee Or muffins delivered in the morning.
