  1. Hello everyone,

I have a question about post-cruise transportation. I will be ending my cruise in Port Canaveral Sat. morning. I'm planning to go to Miami Beach for the rest of my vacation and fly home from MCO on Monday. I'll be traveling by myself. This is a last minute change of plan; I already had my travel arrangements in Orlando reserved.

Do you think it's a better idea to rent a car, drive to Miami, and come back on Sunday night; or to take the train? Prices are comparable when you add in the cost of parking.

  2. Finding a separate hotel closer to the Vatican isn't really necessary. It's easy to take the subway and then walk.

I would definitely take 2-3 days and visit Florence. I stayed in the hotel Degli Orafi, which is on the Arno, right between the Ponte Vecchio and the Uffizi gallery.

Oh, and book your Vatican museum tickets now, they go very quickly, and you may have to shape your schedule around the one opening that's available.

  3. Have you tried booking through a tour company?

And you won't get in standby, the lines for the Colosseum are enormous, any tickets will be snatched up immediately.

Also, tickets to the rest of the Forum will probably be available, and you can walk around there, and the Colosseum is right next to it.

  4. You can buy a ticket from one of the vending machines. However, if you buy ahead of time, it's faster, no CC issues, and no street hustlers coming up and 'helping' you in exchange for a tip.

  5. Did any of your group do the ropes course? How was it? That is something son is looking forward to the most. This is our first foray on a larger ship.

The ropes course was great. It's a series of nodes, with different types of paths connecting them. Some are single ropes, some are double, some are fixed beams. There's also a zip line from one end of the course to the other.

The best part was the one open beam. It extends out over the side of the ship, and you're now 180' over the water, on a very narrow beam, with just a rope to hold on to. There's also a rope to pull, that triggers a camera to capture the moment.

This isn't my video, but at around 2 minutes in, you can see this. Unfortunately, they didn't look straight down to the water, or to see if there was anyone on the lower decks watching you, and shouting out...let go of the rope for your pose.

    Easy for them to say.

Note that the ropes course is open while the ship is in motion, so it's potentially rising and falling with the waves as you walk out over the ocean.

Love your review. I have one question and maybe I overlooked it somewhere but does the Getaway show movies at night on the pool deck? That is something my DH and I really enjoyed on another cruiseline. I looked at your daily schedules and didn't see any movies listed. Just wondering if you noticed any. Thanks :D

They show movies on the aft pool deck and indoors.

  6. OP, you say you are flying OUT of the airport ?? is that a different question ... EWR has one "Economy" Lot, with lowered rate for long-term parking @ Lot 6, with free shuttle bus services and 3 miles from the terminals ... short-term & daily lots are served via the AirTrain stops.

They are two different questions. I'm flying out of EWR, and I'm trying to make a decision regarding transportation to and from the airport.

  7. Hi all,

I'm flying out of Newark (EWR), and I have a few questions about transportation.

Is there a long term parking lot that you recommend?

Amtrak is another option. My flight is supposed to land, at 3:30PM. Will I be able to catch the train, if it leaves the airport station at 4:24. I will (hopefully) not be traveling with any checked baggage, but I will be in the back of the plane.

  8. Hi all,

I'm looking to book a cruise this spring, and I was wondering what is currently the most effective way to go about this (this is a last minute trip so rescheduling, or repeated checking for price drops are not considerations) Last time, I used a site that aggregated offers from TAs, who generally returned similar prices, with varying amounts of OBC. Is that still a viable option? Also, there's a travel expo in town next weekend. Is it worth it to go talk to some of the agencies that have booths set up there, and see if their prices are comparable?

  9. I was also very disappointed in my steak at Chops, I ordered the Porterhouse medium rare.

It was light pink inside, but not soft and tender in any way. Instead it was tough and stringy.

That being said, the sides, dessert, service and basically everything else were very nice, and a clear cut above the MDR. (although they will charge you and extra $10/bottle if you have some mineral water instead of wine with dinner)

    This was on the Oasis.
