  1. Wouldn't you know that we forgot our duct tape? We just got back from our Eastern sail on the Sun! We had 2 chimney's for neighbors...and their smoke poured through our connecting door. It was almost like they were sitting in our room with us! Sun staff came and duct taped the connecting door and left us an air purifier! It really helped a lot but our thoughts of sleeping with the balcony door (aft balcony) were immediately dashed. Everytime we opened our balcony door, all the smoky smell from the hallway was sucked into our room. I will admit we are awful smoke snobs (ex-smokers)..but to pay good money for an aft balcony and then to be continually compromised by our neighbors smoking. Why do they not have non-smoking ships or at least non-smoking cabins?

All in all the cruise was great. The passengers were very old..70's and 80's...maybe only 10 kids on board! Breakfasts were good (though the Sun mueslix is not the same mueslix on the POA), lunches were almost mediocre, dinners ok...Moderno was great, Teppanaki was great. Juggler was good, dropped a lot...Elvy the singer was outrageously loud...the NCl singers/dancers were very good...better than most cruise ship groups. Weather was cold on just 2 of the days...The ports of St. Thomas and St. Maarten were wonderful but busy. We got a great deal on a wedding ring for my husband at Cardows in St. Thomas. Snorkeling at Sapphire Beach was great. Bernards tour in St. Maarten was a great time...lots of fun and lots of drinks! Walking tour in Nassau was very nice, Queens staircase was amazing! I wish I had brought my own blow dryer....the Sun has really old dryers...whereas the Jewel and POA have great dryers.

Anybody have any questions I can answer? So sad it is over so soon!

Hmmm!! What room were you in?? Quite possible it was us that were the so called "chimneys, smoke stacks etc."

  2. A bit funny, for sure.

As to actually "seeing" something, that is another story. We of course KNOW what they are doing, but at that distance, well - nothing to see.

Which brings up the child comments. Come on folks, do you really thing you could SEE something?

Let's go back to the chuckle part.

Totally agree. I would feel pretty fortunate if this were to be the biggest worry or concern in my life.

  3. I consider this a disaster:

One week before our cruise to Mex Riviera, I had my teeth cleaned. I have a crown in front tooth (lost tooth in the 80's riding bike in empty pool). I felt that it was loose, so I told the dentist. He said no, its ok. I said again, it feels loose, he said no, it's cemented.

One week later, I was snorkeling somewhere in the middle of P.V... I come up from the water and my friend says, dude, what happened to your tooth? I said, wuff toof? Oh no, it was GONE!!!!!!!!! I dove down and could not find it! I went into panic mode, wondering how I would survive a week on a ship with no toof! I got out and searched for a dentist, but it was siesta time, so everyone was closed! I panicked even more, knowing that I would be auditioning for the talent show, as Elvis, with jumpsuit and all, but with no TOOF! I started knocking on dentist office doors, finally someone answered. I explained to them the situation... and they fixed it! But, the dammnn tooth was the size of a CHIKLET! I guess that was better than no tooth!

This is too funny!!:D How about some before and after photos?:D:D

  4. This isn't really wild in a funny way, but more of a wild in 'I'm shocked he remembered - what are the chances' type way...

My first cruise was with my mom in 2003 for my HS graduation on the Celebrity Constellation. One day we were lounging on one the deck above the pool looking down at the pool games when I saw a waiter walking around with drinks that I thought was kind of cute. Of course in the Caribbean sun I had my sunglasses on, so I don't think he knew I had been looking at him. Anyway, after awhile I didn't see him anymore so I figured he was done with his shift (he had been staying in the same area serving drinks for as long as I had been out there). Out of nowhere I am covered in strawberry daquiri and I look up to find none other but the cute waiter with the most embarrassed look on his face, he mumbled I am so sorry and ran away!!!!!!! Now I am a VERY low maintenance girl. I can laugh at myself and silly situations I find myself in, so I was cracking up about it.

Fast forward to a year later when I am on the Zenith with my aunt and the first nite at dinner someone taps me on the shoulder, I turn around and there is mr cute waiter with a strawberry daquiri, he set it down next to me and said " I think I owe you this miss!"

    I couldn't believe it!

It really is incredible. On ou cruise in January, we had one of the poolside waiters come up to me and say "I remember you, you are mister rum & coke". It had been 3 years since we were on that ship!!

I must really drink too much!!:D

  5. You won't get many repliss to to this. This is kind of a taboo subect. Personally, I say live and let live. For instance, if you want a personal tan on your balcony I say go for it. If ou happen to have a nosy neighbor, be abrupt and try to shame them out of it.

  6. I buy mine in the health supplement section of my grocery store (by the vitamins), but I imagine you could get it at any health food store or pharmacy (CVS or Walgreens). They are not very expensive either. I paid for a bottle of 500 capsules for about $7.00

I agree. They are easy to find, reasonable in price and seem to work very well. I don't get motion sickness luckily, but DW does and she swears buy the ginger pills.

  7. Has this changed in the last year or so then? We were in an aft suite on the Jewel in Feb. 2009 and the big machine (coffee, cappuccino etc.) used beans, not pods. We were disappointed that we hadn't brought our own beans because we could have easily put our own in the machine, and were planning on doing so on the Dawn in 2011.

Suites on the Dawn use the pods now.

  8. My other embarrassing moment was on a shore excursion to Marrakesh in Morrocco a few years back. We were returning to our ship which was docked in Casablanca when the coach pulled into a roadway 'service station'. Time to stretch the legs and take a call of nature I thought. Looking for the washrooms / gents we asked one local who pointed a small group of us from the coach to go round the rear of the cafeteria. We found a couple of buildings with doors and on examination we found the gents. The urinal was the most weird one I had ever saw in my life - it was a large communal trough against the wall that was quite wide with taps along the wall - as we all lined up to take our calls of nature - one guy from the coach joked perhaps they water their camels here too ..... next thing there was a bit of commotion as an older Morrocan guy in traditional clothing started bawling / shouting etc. thinking no more of it we all finished washed our hands and started handing the old guy some money - thinking that what he was the attendant and that he wanted paying for using the gents. However he shouted more and more and actually refused the money. Next thing our guide appearred and managed to calm the old Morrocan guy down a bit. He asked us all to move along quickly and just return to the bus asap before things got out of hand. We returned to the bus and the guide went on to explain the err of our ways - we had not used the toilets but in fact it was part of the service station mosque and the room was in fact where all the men washed their feet before entering the mosque. The old Morrocan was in fact the Mullah or Holy Man of the Mosque........ and not the toliet attendant as we had thought...... you live and learn. ;)

Wow!! This one is really weird. You guys are probably lucky that it was just the Mullah and not a bunch of radicals.

  9. We're booked for our first balcony in Dec. Lucky to have a full moon that week. Morning coffee while waiting for others to wake sounds nice. Wine and a cigar once the sun goes down is a must. And I've been thinking so much of that special night on the balcony with my lovely wife that my arm is getting tired:p

You may be giving us more info than required, bur my experience is that you make your own balcony fun and enjoy what ever you decide to do.

  10. Can anyone tell me if the balconies on the NCL Star private enough for nude sunbathing or can I get in trouble?

The balconies are private enough to do this, but if neighbors want to try and look, they simply have to peek around the divider.

I have never had over-inquisitive neighbors, but would certainly certainly discourage them if I did.

Not much is said on the boards about this but I think that many people do this from time to time.:p

  11. Some of the other things I look forward to when cruising are: being rocked to sleep, going to the midnight buffett (when can you do that at home :)), hearing the different accents of the staff, and feeling the ocean breeze.

The thing i love the most is being able to leave the world behind and spend time with my best friend, my husband. Leaving work ,kids, phone, responsabilities all behind and enjoy the balcony with our coffee in hand and knowing we deserve every minute of our fantastic adventure in front of us for the next 14 days.

  12. We had a strange person on a cruise years ago, we were on the same bus with him going to our hotel.

He was by himself, and the second day he said that there was something wrong with the ship's water, he said that he ran it for 10 minutes, but it would not go cold!

The next day he claimed that there was something wrong with his toilet, 'Would we please come and listen to it!!!' Forget it!!!

Wow!! Your guy sounds creepier than mine:p Makes you wonder how some people get through life:confused:

  13. We were on a cruise a couple years ago and I notice this guy sitting by himself all the time at the poolside bar. Since DW was busy, I decided to go have a drink at the bar.

Being nice, I strike up a conversation with the guy. He then starts telling me his whole life story, how he's travelling solo, how much of a bad time he is having, how terrible the food is, yadda, yadda, yadda.

I couldn't get away frome him fast enough. Well, you know how these things go, we seemed to run into him everywhere we went. We would go gey an elevator and he's right there when the door opens. He acts like he is my best buddy and starts with his constant complaining. The 1st time DW had the pleasure of meeting him, her only response after we escaped from him was, "Who in the hell is that guy?? I hope you don't plan on him hanging around"

It seems that you have a hard time finding the people you meet that are nice but runb into the weirdos at every corner. SPOOKY!!
