  1. We did this after our cruise in July. Try renting from a car agency that has pickup from the port to downtown Seattle location. We used Alamo. Paid $250 for mini van for Friday and returned to airport Saturday night. Got off ship Friday morning shuttled to rental location got upgraded to brand new Ford Expedition. Headed for boarder. Took about 40 minutes to go thru. Had fun in Vancouver Friday afternoon and Saturday and headed back to Seattle about 3pm. Took only about 15 minutes at boarder. Maybe we were lucky. I believe there are three rental companies that pickup from the port.

  2. We did glacier point wilderness safari in July thru Alaskan excursions. You do get to touch and stand on part of Davidson glacier. You get out of the canoes and the walk is about 3/4 of a mile to the glacier over rocks. We booked independently as it was much cheaper than the ship price for the same thing.

In the afternoon we finished our day with a 90 minute flight over Glacier Bay with Mountain Flying Services. So touched a glacier in the morning and saw them from 5,000ft in the afternoon. Best day ever !!!!

  3. We just did two excursions in Skagway. We were on RCCL arrived in port about 7am. We took the 7:30am Glacier Wilderness Safari. Book independently. folks from cruise ship were on same excursion. We paid $199. It was $249 thru the ship. With four of usage saved $200. Enjoyed it very much. The only slight downside is the boat ride. It was a little long. But once you get to the glacier it is breathtaking. We arrived back in town by 1:30.

Got a quick bite and headed to the airport for a flight with Paul of Mountain Flying Services. This is a regular 8 person plane not a float plane. There were a total of 6 passengers. We flew over glacier bay for about 90 minutes with Paul giving us quite an interesting description of what we were seeing. It was nice to touch a glacier in the morning and then fly over them in the afternoon. This was the highlight of the trip. Would do it again. A little pricy but so worth it.

  4. We just returned and all our excursions were amazing but if I had to choose one it would be in Skagway. We used Mountain Flying Services. We flew over and a round Glacier Bay for 90 minutes. This is not a float plane but a small 8 person plane. Yes it was expensive about $1,000 for four people but we felt it was so worth it. Would do it again in a minute. Beautiful blue skies, white puffy clouds and about 75 degrees. Highly recommend this company.

  5. Our week in Alaska (July 8-15) was predicted to rain at least several days. We prepared for rain. Well tomorrow I'm returning the rain gear as we didn't have more than a few sprinkles once or twice. We could have been in shorts most days. Juneau was 65-68 degrees, Skagway was 75-78 and Victoria about 75. I came back with a little sunburn. Be prepared but hope u get great weather.

  6. We were on Freedom of the Seas back in 2011. After a day of touring we were having a drink over looking Falmouth. They kept asking over the intercom for three women (called by individual name) to check with guest services. This went on for at least 30 minutes. We were already late leaving port. Pretty soon the shop was turning up the engines and brought in the gang way. We were probably no more than 50 ft away from the dock when the 3 ladies come running. We all waved good bye as we kept going. Never heard if they caught up with the ship at the next port. It does happen.

For our first 3 cruises we used ship excursions. But we leave on Friday for Alaskan cruise and all of our excursions are independent. I think it comes from a little experience and a lot of advice on cc.

  7. Trying to decide if this is the right package for us. Am I right to understand we can get smoothies, non alcoholic cocktails I.e. Is there a menu for smoothies.

We're bringing wine on board so we will be fine at dinner. can we get bottled water to take off the ship for excursions.

We're on explorer of the seas if that helps. Thank you. These boards have been invaluable in our planning.

  8. We will have about 2,100 OBC for our Alaskan cruise in a few weeks. We will use it for gratituties, maybe one or two specialty restaurants. We will bring in 4 bottles of wine as we have 2 cabins. We aren't big drinkers but will have a drink or 2 a day. We will be in port most of 3 days. All of our excursions are thru independent companies and already paid for. So here is the question. Can we get an cash advance against our OBC. Would like to bring a little less cash for shore expenses and use some of the OBC. I know if we don't use it all they will credit it back to our card but would rather use it. Thank you.

  9. We r flying out of sea tac at 9 am on July 17 -Sunday. We will be coming into Seattle Saturday evening with a rental car. Should we return the car Saturday evening at the airport and take the shuttle to the hotel and a shuttle back to the airport Sunday morning or turn it in Sunday morning. With the tsa issues assume we should get to airport around 6:30 am. Thank you.

  10. I called the number I found and left a detailed message. The recording says to expect a return call in 1-3 days. We'll see. Also logged on the website and it says "Your current status is pending for postponement." I'm hoping this is moving in the right direction.

  11. I found a phone number ill call tomorrow. I do have a automated response that my request for postponement was received. They just haven't acted on it yet. I did explain my situation and offered to show airline and cruise tickets. I really want this settled so I can focus on the trip.

  12. Just my luck. I haven't been called for any jury duty for over 20 years. Received federal summons to report for jury duty on the day we leave for our RCCL Alaskan cruise. I put in my request for postponement two weeks ago and still haven't heard back. Needless to say I'm not showing up, I'm going to Alaska. I don't mind doing my civic duty but just not in July. I hope I hear something soon. Anyone have any experience with postponements.

  13. I was told that RCCL was beta testing using OBC for pre cruise reservations. If ur ship is eligible and u have OBC it will show up on ur cruise planner. Excursions, drinks etc. this is only on two ships right now. No idea when or if they will roll this out. I forgot which two since it wasn't the one I was on.

  14. We will have a substantial OBC on our July 2016 RCCL trip to Alaska. I've been holding off on most reservations for excursions, dinner, drinks etc and want to use the OBC but this leaves us vernable to not getting the excursions etc we want.

When I talked to RCCL C&A last week I was told that I could go ahead and book now, pay and when I get on board I could "exchange" the prepaid reservations, get a cc refund and then use my OBC to get the exact reservations.

I had not heard or read about this. Has anyone done this?? I was thinking of calling again to see if I get the same answer.

I was also told RCCL was doing a beta test on two ships where u could book your reservations against ur OBC prior to cruising but didn't know if or when it may be rolled out fleet wide.

    Thank you.

  15. Last June or July we got a buy one, 50% off second and 3&4 free for our July 2016 Alaska cruise. About $2700 for all 4 of us in an inside. Only had to pay taxes and port fees for the kids. It does happen but not often. Then a few weeks ago I found a fabulous sale (or IT error) on balconies and switched to two side by sides. You just need to keep close eye on the boards and website. Good luck.
