  1. In recent years we have done 2 RCCL, 1 CCL and 1 Celebrity cruise. We felt the Celebrity was far superior to the others in food and service (although in service I would give CCL a close second). We found food on RCCL and CCL about the same. Service was the worst on RCCL and best on Celebrity (again CCL was a close second). We are booked in Oct. on the Allure (our first mega ship so to speak) and we really like the RCCL ships. I'm happy on any cruise and would cruise just about any line is the price and itinerary is right.

  2. My DH and I are avid watch buyers/wearers/lovers. We own Rolex, Breitling, Tag, Movado and more. We have never found a better price for any of these on our cruises - although we do look. I have to agree that getting a better price in the Caribbean might be long gone. Also, before you get on the ship - check the outlet malls in the US - Tag and Movado (Ebel is available in the Movado stores for a minimum of 35% off and sometime quite a bit more) both have great deals in their outlets stores and it doesn't mean you are getting a less then perfect watch. And if you like fashion watches like Coach, Michael Kors or Gucci - they are usually in the outlet malls too (most of these watches are made by other brands). On one of our last cruises my husband had his eye on a Philip Stein and just wouldn't buy it because he just couldn't get what he thought was a good price. We checked tons of stores on at least 2, maybe three islands and everyone had the exact (yes exact) same price (I smell some price fixing here). When we got home, I searched online and got him the exact same watch and saved $165 (it was $465 on the islands and $300 online). I got all the boxes and paperwork. So, be sure to know what you are looking for and research the price. Have fun!!

  3. We were on the Summit Oct/2013 and the lobster tails were amazing. I was very surprised at how good they were. So, each ship may be a little different for food quality. We had fantastic food everynight of that cruise.

  4. My friends (we are in our late forties, early fifties) have all been happier going to all inclusive hotels due to the unlimited drinks. A few have tried cruises and complained about the high drink prices, they tend to be hang out and drink kind of people.

My husband and I are more of the type that like to do things and maybe have a drink too. We don't usually drink much and therefore we haven't gone to an all inclusive yet because of the price.

If Celebrity cruise prices rise dramatically to cover an all inclusive environment - we will probably start looking at going on other lines but you might be able to book my friends.

So, for Celebrity - it might be a win.

  5. I haven't been on an Alaskan cruise or on that particular ship, but we've always had a great time on any Celebrity ship we are on. We are closer to 50 now, but started cruising on Celebrity about 15 years ago. Every night there will be production shows, the casino (always one of our favorite spots) and many bars to chose from. I have heard that Alaskan cruises are very tiring, so maybe someone with more experience will fill you in a bit more. We've also been on Royal twice and Carnival once, and have fun on all of them.

  6. Our first three cruises were on Celebrity - we took a break (not by choice) and then did a Royal Caribbean, Carnival and another Royal Caribbean cruise. Last fall we were very excited to be back to Celebrity (Summit) and it was everything we remembered. I will sail on any line if the price is right, but our favorite has always been Celebrity. I'm very excited that we are booked on the Reflection in November and can't wait!! I hope you will love Celebrity, it is a wonderful cruise line!!

  7. We've decided a few cruises back, to make the MDR our breakfast spot. We haven't had any slow service or cold food - so I think it may be different ships/servers. We like that our food is freshly prepared and no one has picked it over. Also, we very much enjoy meeting new people every morning and discussing our plans for the day.

  8. My husband left his car keys and a agenda in our room on one of our cruises. When we got home and couldn't get in the house (we traveled with friends and they dropped us off at home), I was blamed that I lost them. Within a couple days the cruise line called and shipped us his things (we had to give a credit card for the shipping charges). So, hopefully the rightful owners will be contacted and get their items back.

  9. As far as the temperature on the ship goes - it was warm everywhere on the ship. The only place that wasn't warm (after it cooled down), was our stateroom. I'm usually cold and don't like to be chilly all the time but I was never cool on this cruise.

The only photos we saw all cost $29.95 per sheet - a couple of them had one large picture and 4 wallet sized ones - but all the same price.

It rained when we were in Grenada - lol

We aren't beach people, so we didn't go to any. We did a taxi tour in Dominica with another couple - it was very nice and we enjoyed it a lot.

We usually like to wander around the port area, these islands (besides St. Thomas and St. Kitts) didn't have much to see. This was the only cruise that we have gotten back on board the ship in time to have lunch.

I don't know how embarkation usually goes in San Juan, but I don't ever remember having to wait so long before. In the parking lot area we were in the blazing sun and finally we made it to the shade. It was still very hot - around 90 degrees. Even when we made it inside, there was no air conditioning in there either. So imagine my surprise when we finally make it to the ship and it's not cool there either!!

  10. The pictures are $29.95 each - we bought 2. If I remember right, you had to buy quite a few to get a better price.

One of our dinner mates bought the whole package - $350 for every picture they take of you. We are happy if one or two turn out nice.

  11. We had been on 3 Celebrity cruises, last one was about 10 years ago. Since then, we did 2 RCCL and 1 Carnival cruise.

We were very excited to be back to Celebrity. It was always our favorite line, but we also enjoyed our other cruises.

We were on the Summit October 26th sailing departing from San Juan. Embarkation was the worst of any cruise we have been on. Embarkation was to start at 1:00 and we arrived around 1:30. It was hot - very hot. The line was very long and we were actually standing in the parking lot. We had to keep our luggage with us, which I believe we've always been able to drop off before we got in line. It took an hour and forty five minutes to check in and I was having a hard time in the heat.

Once on board I commented to my DH that the ship seemed very warm. We went to our cabin so that I could hydrate and rest for a few and the room was pretty warm too. I don't recall ever being warm on our other cruises, so I was surprised. Eventually our room was cool, but I have to say that this was the warmest ship we have ever been on. It was not just me, it was warm. This was the case for all 7 days.

Cabin was fine - no issues there.

Ship - overall, looked great. We missed the feel that we got used to on RCCL, we love the promenade and found the ship to be a little boring.

We requested first seating in the MDR - when we got there the first night we were assigned to select. We used that the first night and then we were switched to first seating. We had the most wonderful tablemates and we truly enjoyed dinner every night. Our table was usually one of the last to leave the dining room and dinner was one of the highlights of our cruise. We thought the food was fantastic - we enjoyed everything we ordered. Lobsters were large and cooked perfectly. I would say the only thing I think they could improve on would be dessert - it was good - but could be better.

We thought the entertainment was good. I would have liked to see more evening entertainment around the ship. Carnival had a comedian almost every night and we enjoyed that very much. I think overall, I would like to see more activities both day and night.

The casino was very small and didn't have the most exciting machines. On our last RCCL cruise, the casino was packed every night and on this one - not so much.

At the beginning of the cruise we weren't sure if we would go back to RCCL or stay with Celebrity - in the end, we decided that the overall elegant feel of the ship and excellent food in the dining room was what we enjoyed the most and we'll be choosing Celebrity as often as we can.

The itinerary wasn't one we would like to do again (St. Croix, St. Kitts, Dominica, Grenada and St. Thomas) and we think we might enjoy a larger ship.

Overall - we had a wonderful time. Our only real complaint would be the temperature of the ship.

  12. We also just got off the Summit. We had requested first seating in the MDR and when we showed up the first night, they had us in select dining. We did that the first night and then the second night we were seated at a table for 10. We had the absolute best table mates and we were always one of the last tables to leave the dining room.

We thought the food was fantastic and our lobsters were as good as anywhere I have had them. They weren't huge, but not small either. Most of the table requested two and one of the ladies even had three.

The desserts were very good although I would have liked to have had more chocolate selections. The chocolate lava cake was just so-so, it didn't compare the same that we had on Carnival.

Based on the food we had - I would have to say that the MDR rocks and we won't be doing many specialty restaurants anytime soon.
