This is our 14th Carnival cruise, but the first time cruising out of the Manhatten port. Does anyone know what this port is like? We were thinking about driving this time, is it difficult to navigate? The parking seems a little expensive. Any tips would be appreciated.

I cruise out of NY most often.  Yes, it’s expensive but I just make the parking part of my budget.  There is nothing like walking off the ship, directly to my car.  I’m sure that there are cheaper places to park while others will chime in, I’m sure but this is my go to for a family of 6 and all of our luggage.

  2. Hi, I'm Kim and I'm exciting to be joining you.  I will be coming with my husband, my 3 adult children and a son in law.  We are having a nuclear family reunion.  We are from New Jersey so no flight for 5 of us.  The roll calls on Cruise critic aren't as active as they used to be but hopefully as the cruise nears, it will become more active.  Meanwhile, I belong to a few others.

  3. I don't know of any way for 2 people sharing a cabin to pay different rates. If 1 person is entitled to the past guest or over 55 rate, both passengers in the cabin get that rate.

Actually, they both do pay the same rate but one person received a 20% discount on their next cruise from a prior cruise. They booked at the same rate and then the person with the discount completes a form and the discount is subtracted.

  4. Suppose 2 people went on a cruise together. One person had a 20% discount which is not transferable or refundable. The other person paid full fare. The person with the 20% discount was a no show or missed the boat. I know that a no show loses their $ and all port fees and taxes are refunded. Now the person who paid full fare is sailing alone for less than the double occupancy rate because of the discount that the other person had. Will the cruise line go after the person sailing for the difference between double occupancy and what was actually paid?

  5. Hi My name is Kim and I'm a Cruise-a-holic. My Husband & I along with our 2 daughters (29 & 16) and son-in-law to be just got off the Horizon today or should I say yesterday because it's after midnight. I booked this cruise today due to a past guest offer in my email as well as a 20% cruise credit because of a canceled port. Bermuda is one of my favorite ports so I'm excited to sail from NYC and get an overnight. I really enjoy single port itineraries. Booking this one to celebrate our anniversary. Who is joining me? Who is joining you? What's the occasion? Looking forward to chatting with you.

  6. I truly don't understand why people even go on vacation when little things like this cause such heartache. Why risk it? When asking for a reservation this early from Carnival I have never not gotten the time I requested. They charge you when you appear for your meal. If you find you have conflicting reservations they will work with you via email to find a time that is satisfactory. Patience is key.

I actually do understand. I too was an extreme planner. Vacations were planned out a year or more in advance. Money was drafted from my bank account every pay period into a vacation account. After initial deposit, the balance was divided into the amount of pay periods until final payment. After final payment, excursions, reservations & gratuities were made. The withdrawals continued to account for vacation spending. Every I dotted, every T crossed and nothing could go wrong. OMG, I laugh at myself writing this. Now that the kids have moved out, graduated from college, college paid. One left in College preparatory school so we are practically empty nesters. There are no other schedules to consider I have fallen apart and wait until the last minute to do things.

  7. Sorry you're feeling frustrated. I personally wouldn't worry about it. I've never not received the specialty dining reservation I requested.

I concur. I make the reservations, get the confirmation, I actually didn't pay attention to how many days it took but it was more than a few. I even added people later and got that with no problem also. I think you will be ok.

  8. I'm taking my daughter on the Horizon for her birthday. She is set on a Cove Balcony. There are only 2 left that will accommodate myself, my husband and my daughter. Both are midship. One is a connecting stateroom mid-aft, located under the chef's table. The other is mid-forward not connecting but is located under the Shore excursion desk. Which would you be more inclined to book. 'Neither' is not an option. I will have a great time regardless of whichever I end up in because that is just who I am, however am waivering. Input is appreciated. Thank you.

  9. My last two cruises on the Conquest and Glory, they turned away Moms and teen daughters trying to get appts, said must be 18.

    Bummer

My sister got my 2 nieces Spa treatments on the Vista. I don't remember if she did it ahead of time or onboard. She did have to go with them though to sign the form and check them in. They are in HS and under 18.

I hope this is the case but I think I'm going to get her a cheap pedi at home prior to the cruise just in case they refuse us. I wonder what happen to make them change this as this was not the case years ago. Now, I'm thinking that perhaps I was on a Disney cruise when she got the pedicure years ago. Been on so many I don't know which one it was :D.

  10. I am taking my daughter on a cruise for her 16th birthday. I went on line to make our pedicure appointments and her name was not present as a choice. I thought this was odd because her name was present to order bubbles, excursions, cookies for the room etc. I contacted our PVP and was informed that since she is a minor I could not book an appointment on line for her, I will have to wait until we get on the ship and even then it is at the discretion of the staff since she is a minor. I remember her getting a pedicure years ago between the ages of 9 and 11. Has anyone run into this problem? Has anyone recently had a teen who was able to get a manicure or pedicure with no problem? It would stink if we were not able to get her a spa appointment for her birthday. Thinking Perhaps I should make an appointment at home before we leave but it would not be the same experience. Any input/experiences would be appreciated. TIA.

  11. My experience was in Alaska. DH REALLY wanted to do the zip line excursion. SO I went with him. I did NOT do the rope tunnel or wooden bridge that was before the zip line. I hiked ... and hiked ... and hiked UP to where the zip line started. Once I did 1 zip line .... there was NO going back. There were 6 zip lines .... some SO high that we were looking down 100 feet. The zip line didn't descend 100 ft., it's just we were that high up. I was TERRIFIED .... I am thrilled that I did it .... I will NEVER do it again.

I was thinking that if I did the zip line that would be so proud of myself for having done it and my daughter would be proud also but I'm not sure I can work up the courage.

  12. Next to impossible to accompany her on zip lines and stuff without ziplining yourself.

Nope, you going to have to put on the big girl pants and show your daughter that there is nothing to fear in life and that she should take life on head on.

while I sit back, sip my drink and laugh at you

LOL...That's just one port. She's already fearless, that's why I'm scared.
