  1. How much should I expect to pay per person for a cab ride?

You could catch a cab to 7 Mile Beach or take the yellow or lime green bus routes (see thebusschedule.com/EN/ky). I would probably try to have them drop off more towards the south end of 7 Mile Beach, so you have more time to enjoy it. Maybe near the Marriott. Personally, I would probably take a cab back in case the buses are behind schedule, but that is just me. I tend to worry about the time. I believe you have to be back on the ship at least 30 minutes prior to departure. Also remember to allow time for tendering. The last time we left Cayman, and I think we got in line about 4pm, the line was HUGE. The tenders do hold quite a few people though. I don't think we waited longer than 15-20 minutes.
  2. My cruise ship gets into port in Georgetown @ 7am and leaves at 4pm. I am planning on getting off the ship and walking to Eden's Rock dive shop for a Discover Scuba dive. The dive starts at 9am and lasts 3 hours until 12pm. Once we are done with the dive at 12pm, we will probably get a quick bite to eat and then look for something else to do before the cruise ship leaves at 4pm. Is it feasible to catch a cab to 7 mile beach and spend a few hours there? Do the buses run by the Eden Rock dive shop or would I need to walk back to the cruise port and catch the bus there? What time is recommended to leave the beach and head back to the cruise ship if it departs at 4pm?

    Thanks.

  4. I will be taking the Princess Regal ship to Grand Cayman (Georgetown) and Cozumel the end of Feb. For Grand Cayman, the ship arrives at port at 7am and leaves at 4pm. For Cozumel, the ship arrives at port at 10am and leaves at 10pm.

I want to go scuba in one location (either Grand Cayman or Cozumel) and snorkeling in the other. I have been scuba diving once 20 years ago on my honeymoon and loved it but have never been again. My wife, daughter (15) and I have been snorkeling many times on other cruises. I am working on convincing them to go on a discover scuba dive in either Grand Cayman or Cozumel clear.png?emoji-smile-1742

Which location would be better for scuba for my situation?

Recommendations for scuba provider that has a discover scuba dive option?

I was looking at the Acquarius Sea Tours snorkeling/stingray/starfish package for $50pp if we decide to snorkel in Grand Cayman. I'll see what everyone's feedback is though before deciding.

    Thanks.

  6. In my family we have a 12 year old daughter and 16 year old son. We have been on two cruises as a family. The first was Carnival. We went to the evening shows (8-9pm) and they were appropriate for families.

The next cruise we went on was with Royal Caribbean. We went to the evening shows (not the late night shows and the shows were very inappropriate for children. Very skimpy outfits for the girls, guys bragging about their sexual prowess. One showed had a lady in lingerie dancing seductively around a guy. We went to the customer service and let them know that the shows were not family friendly, but they insisted they were.

Anyway, we spoke to some friends of ours and they mentioned that Carnival has family cruises which have shows which are geared towards families. I went to Carnival's website and they seem to indicate that all cruises are family friendly. Does anyone know here if some Carnival cruises or Royal Caribbean which are more geared towards families including the evening shows? I understand the late night shows may not be so family friendly, but the earlier evening shows is what I am thinking of.

  7. Tmaxx, I found a company with free pick up and drop off for $50 a day and they have availability for your date.

Unfortunately I'm not allowed to make recommendations for specific companies on this board anymore, so if you can post your e-mail address (you can make a quick yahoo one if you don't want to write your real one) and I will forward the info.

    My email is tmaxx00@yahoo.com

  8. Seaquarium beach (or Kontiki/Cabana Beach / Mambo Beach) is a man-made beach. Ideal for a beach day with all amenities, a pool, bars, restaurants, shops, sometimes live music.

The beaches on the West are natural beaches with lots and lots of sea life. Ideal for snorkeling / diving / snuba.

If you go to Seaquarium you will see some fish and more towards the windbreaker, some coral.

In the West, it's the real deal.

I'm asking around to see whether there are car agencies with pier pick up for the 24th of Dec. Will let you know.

    Thankso much!

I also just sent an email to Thrifty to see if they can help.

  9. This is really tricky if you take your port times into consideration.

In order to go to the Western beaches by public transportation it will take over 1 hour each way.

There are buses stopping at Westpunt, Lagun and Knip, but the trip will be looooooong.

The large White bus charges about $4 one way per person.

To get the bus you need to walk towards Starbucks after you get off the ship. Pass the movie theater (Cinemas), cross the street and you'll see the bus depot.

Inquire at the sales booth about schedules, specifically what time the bus will pass the beach you're intending to go.

Personally I wouldn't chance this. If you really want to save and still go to a beach, cross the bridge and take a public bus (behind

the postal office) to Seaquarium Beach. Ride is 20 minutes and about $2 per person each way. Cab is $20 per ride each way.

    Couple question:

1). How does the Seaquarium compare to the Western beaches like Cas Abao especially in terms of snorkeling? We are trying to determine if it's worth $30 per person round trip for a taxi for the four of us to go to the Western beaches.

2). We would really rather rent a car and drive ourselves. Avis said the cars would be first come, first serve at the pier. Are there other companies that don't require min 3 day rental on 12/24 that I could reserve ahead of time?

  10. I had planned to rent a car in Curacao during our stop on 12/24. Problem is the rentals are a minimum of 3 days. So... I am looking at riding public transportation (bus) to a beach for snorkeling. Problem is I am not sure of a good beach for snorkeling that the bus drops off at. We had considered Cas Abao but I don't think the bus goes to that beach. Any other suggestions?

  12. In my opinion you still have time to do all this. Just make sure you start the drive back with ample time to return the car and get onboard.

Driving back you will not hit traffic as most folks will be heading in the opposite direction after office hours.

If you have a rental and good port hours, this would be a great opportunity to see the island (that's why I don't recommend renting a car and go lay on the beach).

Enjoy your day and take lots of pictures!

If I stay at the beach until closing (6pm) and start heading back, it is likely to get dark while driving. Is driving at night difficult or not advisable?

  13. Since you have a rental car I would start out by going to the Northest part of the island (Westpunt).

On your drive down have a look at Knip Beach (great photo op!), snorkel a bit at Lagun (free beach with a "house" turtle) and then pay to get into Cas Abao.

This beach closes at 6 pm and then you can drive back to town (till what time do you have the car?).

If we don't get into port until 1pm and the beach closes at 6pm, would we have enough time to do all that you suggest? I mapped it out and it would take 1 hour 45min to go from MegaPier to Westpunt to Lagun to Cas Abao and back to the MegaPier.

  14. I am considering visiting two beaches : Casa Abao and Porto Marie

They seem to be right next to each other. Is it possible to walk from one to the other? Or would I need to drive? If so, how long is the drive?

    Thanks.

Also, if I have to pick one or the other, which would be preferred for snorkeling? We get into port at 1pm and these beaches close at 6pm, so I may not be able to do both.

  15. We (me, wife, two kids - 15 and 11) will be at Curacao next week. Our stop is from 1pm until 10pm. We plan to rent a car and drive.

We all really love to snorkel so I am looking for advice on where we should go. We've probably only got from 1 to 6 assuming it gets dark around 6.

Would it be possible to hit a couple beaches for snorkeling and make it back to the ship by dark? If so, I would appreciate some suggestions on some spots we could go to in that time frame.
