5150lock--thanks for your encouraging post. I carry ear plugs so noise in hotel is no problem I just requested a room with my own bathroom...I had read about the coffee place but thanks for heads up about being crowded. Getting excited.

Thanks for cab info. I have a sleeper on the train so don't know what side I will be on. As far as fares--pretty expensive. Could have flown first class in a few hours for what I am paying. Will enjoy beautiful scenery and be close to the ground. Flying used to be fun.

You have helped and thank you. Live out at the beach so don't know downtown LA like I used to. I just stick with my old cell phone for emergencies so will rely on waiting taxis.

Thanks for info. After 36 hrs on train I will not want to go out so taxi from station to hotel sounds safe from what you say. I feel much better--first time going solo since my husband passed and I don't want to fly anymore.

I am arriving at approx 9pm on the train from LA. Elderly traveling alone and staying at the Moore. I did some research on it and got good reviews. Next am getting on ship. I plan to get a taxi at the train station to hotel. After reading all these comments I am getting concerned. Think the station is at Jackson(?) My cruise is at pier 66. Do I need to worry more??

I agree with cruisebni re the Embassy Suites in El Segundo. I lived in El Segundo from 80's till 2 yrs ago. We often had dinner in the restaurant at the hotel. They have shuttle service to LAX and a breakfast that is included.
