sorry (not sorry) but your way of thinking is what keeps people in prison for minor infractions (just an example) for extended amounts of time wasting tax payer dollars and lets other very guilty people walk free bc our prisons are too overcrowded to keep them
People in prison are convicted felons, not individuals who commit "minor infractions."

I'm surprised it didn't show up on the Cruise News section.

Is Cruise Critic covering up for the cruise line? Perhaps Cruise Critic and the cruise lines have too cozy a relationship.

Indeed HNI cruise critic would do well with a full graphic, tabloid style section of sensational cruise deaths, murders, and fascinating crimes at sea accompanied by full screen gruesome photos
Since I am cruising with my granddaughter I need to know as much information on this issue. I am glad others posted details about this ship and the location of the incident. Just because you do not want to hear about it does not mean other potential passengers do not. You are hiding your head in the sand. Or are you a shill for the cruise line?

I hope no one at work knows my username here and is monitoring these boards because if everything works out, my last day, will be December 21, 2010. I work for a school system and it all depends on what my retirement benefits will add up to.
Why the secrecy? When I finally transfered to the office I realized would be my last assignment I would walk down the hall declaring "only 20 more years to go." Everyone laughed. By the time I was at 18 months from retirement I wondered "where did the years go?"
After some years had passed prior to retirement I would run into friends from other offices. Initially some would say "Are you still in the Valley office." Some years later they would say "Are you still with the department?" When it progressed to "Are you still alive?" I knew it was time to go.

In addition to financial security two other factors must be considered. Do you view your occupation as part of your identity? If so you may need to find similar volunteer or part time work for self fullfillment.
Also consider what your spouse wants out of retirement. Some men see retirement as a second honeymoon while their wives say "what the hell am I going to do with him here all the time?".
If you expect some conflict and adjustments then you will not be shocked or disappointed when it occurs. Taking cruises tends to even out the rough patches.

I was fortunate to land a very difficult job with a great retirement plan. I started in 1968 as a Probation Trainee working in Juvenile Hall. Due to budget problems the County has revised its retirement benefits three times since I was hired. This was a prudent move since most municipalities and states are facing bankruptcy due to unsustainable retirement systems. Planning brochures had graphs which indicated the benefit-age formulas. I put in 37 years. I had planned to retire between ages 58-60. I made these plans 20 years prior to retiring. It's never too early. We stayed in our home which we purchased 34 years ago thus avoiding the higher taxes which acompany moving to a more expensive property and we paid off our mortgage. Once you do the math you can set your date. I retired 4 months after my 59th birthday. 6 cruises so far.

Our first two cruises were with Carnival. The Elation, then the Ecstasy which are clones. On Carnival we were among the youngest couples, we were early 50's. When waiting to board HAL (Ryndam) we noticed most passengers were way older than us. Numerous wheelchairs, walkers even oxygen tanks. Carnival caters to a younger party, drinker and smoker crowd. HAL offers a more reserved and luxurious ambience. Most passengers are asleep by 11:00p.m. Very few smokers since by this age most smokers have died. Now that we are in our 60's we still feel young traveling HAL. I loved Princess. However both Carnival and HAL had larger cabins. Princess had mattresses made of stone. If you go on HAL avoid the Ryndam. It is a small ship and I got seasick. In addition it has plumbing problems that cannot be fixed. We were without the use of our toilets for hours on two separate days.
I meant to say "on Carnival we were among the OLDEST couples."

Looks like the Today show story was written by the family attorney. A con job to divert the blame from the idiot grandfather who caused this.
