  1. I think I met you at Guest Services when you were asking about the Meet & Mingle! I was actually handling another crisis (caused by our Travel Agent - Yikes!) and completely forgot to ask about the M&M invite! I was disappointed because I wanted to meet all of the nice folks I've been talking to! I did run into Eddie in the Windjammer and he invited me and one of the people I was traveling with up to see the Owner's Suite! I think my friend Rick went, but I had to meet another person from our group so I never did get to see it!

You did and all we had to do was show up. This was the second time on Jewel that I didn’t get the invite, but at least this time I didn’t miss out.

  2. To add to what Bill said about the meet & mingle, I never did receive the notice so I went to guest services and they called the group people and they said to just show up-so I did and there were no problems. My addition to St. Croix...I had decided to make it a beach day and we headed to Sandcastle, a small hotel with it’s own beach. The shuttle from Fredericksted was $6 per person and the day pass was $10 per person. For $32 we got a nice day at a really nice beach.

  3. On the pizza on the Jewel -

fingers crossed indeed! - please let us know. Thanks

I was aboard Jewel last week and tried the pizza once. I was pleasantly surprised as the crust was thin and crispy and the cheese and sauce were OK. Of course, it’s not like the pizza I can get here on Long Island, but I would call it serviceable.

  4. Hi Grammy8kids,

Wanted to reassure you that our "Feb. 15 - 25, 2019 Southern Caribbean 10 nt. cruise from Miami", is still on. Please join us over on our Roll Call: https://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2605928

The Jewel of the Seas doesn't sail to Dubai until November 30, 2019 (from Rome) thru March of 2020. Here's the notice from RCCL's Deployment Dept.: http://creative.rccl.com/Sales/Royal/Deployment/2019_2020/Deployment_Dubai_JW.pdf

So those of us sailing on the Jewel during February 2019 are just fine. You mentioned that it doesn't show up in the brochure. That's because the Jewel is replacing the Navigator of the Seas, which will be in dry dock getting Royal Amplified refurbishments during January & most of February 2019. (1st cruise out of dry dock is Feb. 24, 2019 for the Navigator.)

Hope this helps you out. See ya over on our Roll Call:)

    Happy Sailing,

    Suzy B

Thanks for this. I’ll be aboard Navigator 4/26/19 from Miami. I’m happy that it will be only 2 months after drydock.

  5. If it helps, I just came off Jewel of the Seas on Sunday in San Juan. I had a 2:41 flight to New York JFK. My group was off the ship by 8, I was at the airport by 8:30 and was able to change to the 10:30 flight when I got there. I’m guessing you could have a flight that early from FLL and request an early group and make the flight with no problems. I wouldn’t take that chance sailing from Port Canaveral (MCO), but I might from MIA where I’m sailing from next.

  6. why post on carnival forum just to say that?

Sorry for the delay. I just saw your response. I suppose I was either stoned or just being an a-hole. My real answer would have been to take the cruise from Charleston and do either pre- or post-cruise for a few days. Charleston is a beautiful city and has some of the best low-country cuisine you’d ever taste, especially the seafood.

  7. I have been in contact with Levi recently and things are still bad there. Levi is incredibly upbeat and is always touched that we all remember him and have him and his family in our thoughts. Much of Dominica is still without power and he still has to travel quite far to get internet, so if you email him, be patient in awaiting a response.

  8. Can absolutely be shared, My wife and I ordered two drinks together from the card several times without any issues. I never used it anywhere except the Promenade Café so I can only answer to this issue.

The rules on Jewel changed over the 20 months between cruises. I’ve never had to share as my wife would prefer to have boiling oil poured on her than to drink coffee. [emoji16]

  9. I was wondering if anyone would share their thoughts on the pros and cons of sailing the Explorer Eastbound from Sydney or Westbound from Seattle. I'm looking at this itinerary and don't know which direction would be better. I can go either time of year. Just wondering if the time change or weather, or something else makes people go one way or the other. I've been to Seattle many times, but never been to Sydney and would like to spend a few days there separate from the cruise.

Obviously, it's a long trip either way. I would lean toward flying west. If you want to spend a few days in Sydney, do it beforehand. That way you reduce jet lag when you get home (depending on where home is). I'm on the east coast so that scenario is preferable for me.

  10. A simple "no thank you" kinda works but they forget they've asked you when they see you again, and again.

They also engage you in a way that the response sounds off, something like, "Do you like adventures?", I say "no thank you" = no, I bought a cruise but I hate adventures lol.

I didn't see any Japanese guys (Izumi) or steak waiters (Chops) walking around, like they're trying to sell a circus show haha.

That I might have gone for, especially if it had elephants! 🤣

  11. I will be sailing on Navigator of the Seas on March 3 and this will be my 11th cruise. I am extremely seasick and my doctor writes me a prescription for the transderm scop patch which you wear behind your ear while you are onboard. I have used it many times and have never gotten seasick again. You need to put it on three hours before you go onboard and need to change it every three days. One note, if you do get this, leave it on for a couple of days after you get home so it wears off, I took it off once right after we got off the ship and the next day got very sick with nausea. Let me know if you have any other questions. It has been a life saver for me.

I can vouch for the TransdermScop patch. I used it for all of my cruises until Jewel of the Seas last month. Never needed it for that cruise, I carried Bonine but never needed that either.

  12. I hope we don't run into a cabin with a turned off refrigerator/cooler. we use them for my wife's insulin. The less pleasing alternative is a bucket filled with ice.

I keep insulin in there too. I always make sure the mini fridge is on and I had the bottles of Evian in there when I embarked. I drank them and even ordered more Evian and some Diet Coke in case I wanted one.
