  1. thanks according to your link : "Answer: Foreigners who are travelling to Türkiye by cruises are allowed to enter Türkiye without visa for a maximum period of 72 hours, with the permission given by the local security authorities.  "

So that means we do NOT need any visa, ok. Hopefully I can hear from others who done this before. We are not flying in/out of turkey , just staying at these 2 ports for not more than 72 hrs total.

  2. we're embarking MSC poesia on Nov 19 at Portofino and there seems to be very little info on how this actually works. Is there a embarkation port at portofino, where exactly is it? How does one get there from Pisa?

  3. Confused as online seems to suggest yes but also some say cruiser have an exemption and all we need is to carry our cruise card while on port?  This is for Nov, 2023.

As a Canadian passport holder, do I need to apply/pay for anything special if my cruise starting in Italy stops at Kusadasi (1 day) and Istanbul (2 day port) ?

My cruise agent just sent me a link which is vague...

  4. thanks all, so i decided to book a late november cruise departing/returning genoa (portofino). we're likely flying into Paris and then switching flights to Genoa (not on same day, we'll explore paris a few days). On the way back home, we'll fly out of Milan. I know actually what i'm doing actually involves quite abit of travelling around, but schedules and pricing match up best... thanks for the advices and experiences!

  5. Unfamiliar with the huge amounts of European ports , we are wanting to do Mediterranean cruise (we live in Canada). But at the same time, we want to fly into a city that is convenient/easy to get to the cruise port as well. Some of the airports that we can fly relatively easily into are London, Paris, Barcelona, Rome. From London, we may consider getting cheap flights to smaller cities to cruise from.

I looked into a few ports and for example Rome, even that seems abit quite far, or is my expectation too high?

We live in Vancouver and our intl airport to the cruise terminal is connected by train from airport directly to the cruise terminal ~40 minutes , costing ~$8 CAD. So I dont know if my expectation is spoiled or not... But ideally if there is something like that in Europe that would be great!

  6. 10 hours ago, bonsai3s said:

Same with Catalina.  We were on the Navigator last week, and a family with young children, who did not know or weren't aware of the RCCL policy, and was not allowed to tender to Catalina.  The Security Officer told them that families with unvaccinated children must be on a RCCL shore excursion.

Thanks for confirming with your anecdote, that helps and confirms that the rule will be enforced.  i guess that is an interesting rationale someone above said, since locals can just boat to Catalina with their unvaccinated kids. but i guess cruises guests are different because the cruiseline is liable. understandable.

  7. this is straight from rccl's site :

"Tours Required for Families With Unvaccinated Children
Families traveling with unvaccinated kids must purchase a local tour through Royal Caribbean if they wish to go ashore in ports of call. This applies to all ports of call except Perfect Day at CocoCay, Labadee and Port Canaveral, Florida. Vaccinated parents wishing to go ashore freely can visit our youth facilities onboard to learn about drop off program hours and availability, and reserve time for their child on the day they wish to go in port."

  8. Booked a LA cruise with Royal in December so I think situation may change (for lesser restrictions...?) by that time.

But hypothetically speaking, right now, if we are 2 full vaxed adults with a child under 12 (can't be vax'd), what process/when/how much cost for the child under 12 to do PCR tests? I'm not worried about ourselves as adults (and i believe it's paid for/included as well for us), just want to gauge how many times my child has to go through the uncomfortable tests to prep her. Can't seem to find this information clearly online... if anyone could send me that would be great.

    Thanks!

  9. so given the current situation, it's interesting to me that most cruises re-circulate air and does not get any significant air that's fresh. which is a big factor making people sick. i do understand why they re-circ and it is all due to cost. but out of curiousity for mild waether places such as right now in most places , wouldn't it make more sense to re-route the HVAC to get all fresh air, and if its too cold, ask people to wear more clothes?

or can they simply not do that , tech wise? it would seem to make sense to help reduce the spread of contaminated air

  10. i've only read a few things here and there but cant seem to find much info on it. but apparently there are routed taxi's or shuttles that go down the stretch of highway from st ann's bay to Port maria only for about $1. They are able to stop at the points of interests in the middle like mystic mountain, dolphin cove or dunn's river.

if anyone has taken these before, what do they look like, where do they typically pick up, any pictures? any tips or instructions in general.

is it perhaps "someone" doesnt want people to know these exists?

    thanks,

  11. sorry to bump this up, but my question directly relates to this topic. i'm getting off a cruise at San pedro and want to rent a car for 2 days and drop off at LAX.

is there any extra fees to rent at Lomita and drop off at LAX? Seems like back in 2007, there were no fees but now could be different.

also, if i call Hertz, do they have a free pickup service at the san pedro cruise terminal?
