  1. On the Eclipse in March - terrible bar service. We tried several places to meet at 5:30 - 6:00 for drinks before dinner - almost impossible to get served. I like the Apple-tini. Being Elite Plus we tried the Sky lounge. It was open to everyone, not just an Elite lounge anymore.

On the Summit last month. The Elite social gathering was open on two nights to Select as well, making it impossible to get a seat let alone a drink. When asked why Select were able to attend, we were told "we thought they'd enjoy it." Really.

  2. The lunch menu for Tuscan on the Summit last month I felt was weak for a $25 cover, in that there was no steak available. The only meat dish was Chicken Parmigiana. No steak in a steakhouse!?!? The appetizers were the same as for the dinner menu offering: a crab cake, bean soup, salad or fried calamari. The fried calamari was actually quite good in that in was full tubes of calamari, lightly breaded.

  3. We received "the call" from captain's club concierge offering the opportunity to upgrade to either a Celebrity Suite or Royal Suite for a "reduced fee" on our upcoming cruise to Alaska. Incidentally, our traveling companions (who are elite plus, we are elite) received the call first, but declined because that would mean we would be in separate dining areas - so when they called us, we booked the CS and our friends were able to get the RS! As if we weren't already excited enough! Plus the ship sails on my birthday, so Happy Celebrity Suite Birthday to me!

    Nice!!!

Did you book direct with X or with a TA?

  4. You were just off Summit? Did you sign up for the free Elite+ internet using your seapass folio on your card? Forget what the coupon says. It actually gives Elite + the 240 minutes package when you log on to sign up.

That's the way it has been on my last 4 Celebrity cruises. Coupon says 200 but you actually get 240 when you sign in.

We did receive the 240 minutes. When we enquired as to why the coupon said 200 and not 240, we were told that changes are coming. In looking at today's X website, even that has been changed to reflect the 200 minutes for E +

  5. For us the allotted 240 minutes each is more than sufficient because we do almost all our reading and writing offline.

Just off the Summit and the 240 minutes has now been reduced to 200.

    Thanks Celebrity.

  6.

I'll give Celebrity and HAL the benefit of the doubt that they are both working hard to deal with the emerging circumstances that will affect this summer's cruises in this troubled region. What I hope is not going on is a plan by either company to preserve bookings for as long as they can to allow them more cancellation and refund options so as to minimize their exposure to revenue losses.

I would hope so as well. Unfortunately, If X had the slightest inkling of changing either embarking or disembarking ports, they would not be offering these cruises with bargain store pricing. If they eliminated Istanbul as the embarking/disembarking port, they would be able to derive much more revenue for each cabin than what their charging for them now, which indicates to me that they're not going to change.

  7. Please actually read. The post I referenced was quoting the warning from 2 weeks ago and u was correcting the reference to Peninsular with Province.

You also referenced the map that was posted this morning that shows Istanbul as an area that one should "reconsider your need to travel to".

  8. Emergency Message for U.S. Citizens: Credible Threats to Public Squares and Docks in Istanbul and Antalya

    April 9, 2016

The U.S. Mission in Turkey would like to inform U.S. citizens that there are credible threats to tourist areas, in particular to public squares and docks in Istanbul and Antalya. Please exercise extreme caution if you are in the vicinity of such areas.

  9. We have been on the infinity (sister ship to Millennium) in 28' seas and 50 mph winds and never felt unsafe even though it was difficult to walk down the halls without holding on. The ship handled the storm quite well (off the coast of Spain).

There is no way to predict weather. We were on an Antarctica cruise (again infinity) where the seas are always rough and our crossing in both directions was amazingly smooth. You just can't predict what's going to happen.

If you do book (and we have a very similar cruise booked), book a cabin in the middle section of the ship and avoid the very top decks...maybe book deck 7. Truth is being on decks 8-9 really don't move more, but you'll worry more because you are on a "high" deck.

Book the cruise...it's a fascinating part of the world.....and stop worrying.

I guess we might to be in for a rough voyage as we have a deck 11 extreme aft AQ cabin booked for Vietnam & Philippines

However, we've been in these aft AQs before where we've rocked and rolled in bad weather, but will definitely book them again and again whenever they're available.

  10. Would love to hear comments/thoughts from folks who have stayed in these. Photo's would be nice too. Cabins 1122, 1124 and 1126 all look to be available. Any additional comments on these would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Rick

    Hey Rick

We've stayed in 1122 on the Connie in the past. Sorry, but I don't have pictures of the balcony for you. The balcony is approx 6 inches deeper than the other deck 11 balconies, and really didn't make a difference. I might be more concerned with the noise from the movies now being shown above on deck 12, than I would be with the balcony. As you know, there is no comparison with the standard deck 11 AQ balconies and the five on the aft. We will probably not be booking AQ cabins on M class ships in the future, unless they are one of the five cabins on the stern. And the way X has been pricing AQ, we feel it's a better bang for the buck to book a sweet 16 or a "regular" verandah cabin and take a specialty rest package.

    All the best

    Bob

  11. It seems Celebrity is not going to be in Istanbul in 2016 any longer than they have to

BUT they cancelled Israel for some cruises this fall but have not heard anything about if they will be going back to Israel next year.

    Anyone heard anything about Israel?

We are on a Constellation cruise that is going to Istanbul and Israel next year and if they are not going to be going to Israel too, then we will have to consider if we want the cruise at all.

Constellation is doing 2 cruises to Israel in October 2017. Both will have overnights in Malta as well as Ashdod.

  12. Two years ago we sailed with some friends.

Two weeks ago they received an email alerting ME that the itinerary for a future sailing that I have booked WITHOUT them has been modified. I didn't receive the alert from Celebrity but they did. We have probably taken 5 cruises without them since our trip together.:confused::confused:

  13. I've attached the letter we were given on August 1 when we checked in.

I really can not agree with the issues some have voiced here on my sailing due to the virus. The inconveniences were so insignificant, that they really do not warrant being blown out of proportion here, like not having a menu door tag for breakfast ordering, since there's an interactive menu available through your room television.

Yes, we couldn't fill our plates ourselves at the buffet, so the staff dished out the items you wanted, but as someone posted here earlier "the barnyard habits of many folks leave a lot to be desired" was eliminated.

  14. We were on the Aug 1 sailing on Equinox. Although the Molecular Bar is physically in the same location, the drink menu that this bar used to serve is gone since the licensing agreement with Junior Marino is over. Both Ivan and Barbara, the bartenders here on my sailing, were true mixology experts, and real nice people. I will always remember the great ginger mojitos that were made here.

  15. Just found out that we have been assigned Silhouette sunset veranda cabin. Anyone know of any negatives or positives? Slightly concerned about wave action in back of ship.

I wouldn't worry about the "wave action". We love aft cabins as you will see why real soon. Your verandah will be larger and the views are to die for. The only issue you may have is that S class ships do not have an aft elevator so the walk to the elevators will enable you to burn off your desserts.:)

  16. Sometimes the crew goes above and beyond (basically always). I asked Tijana, the Maitre de, for copies of the menu the other day and at breakfast this morning she gave me original menus for each day to take home with me.

Sent from my 831C using Forums mobile app

I believe Tijuana is the hostess and Thelma is the Maître d in Blu on Connie.

Tijuana is great and does all of the work, that's why many think she's the maître d.

  17. Nothing really to do about this...and not that big a deal...but...thought I'd share...

When Celebrity added the new "Elite Plus" level, I was "elite" and at 24 points on the old system...Had I taken just one more short cruise somewhere, I would have been converted straight to "Elite Plus"...Instead, I was placed at "720" of the new points--needing 750 to reach Elite Plus...

Not a problem at all, I thought...I already had my next Celebrity cruise booked--a Galapagos cruise this coming July.

Now, when they originally announced it, they made no accommodation for the Galapagos cruises getting any more points than any other cruise...so, with most of the cabins, except for suites, being OV cabins, so, despite this cruisetour of 10 nights being WAY more expensive than most other Celebrity cruises in Concierge or Aqua cabins, it still would have netted a mere 20 points--leaving me still short of Elite Plus...

But Celebrity did LISTEN...and corrected the situation by posting a new point assignment chart for the Xpedition...So, the cruise is now worth 5 points per night--So, I would gain 50 points, bringing me to 770 and Elite Plus status for my subsequent cruises--important for my 13 night July 2016 Iberia cruise--when I can really use the two perks seemingly most important--the 200 minutes of free internet and the second load of laundry per person...

But, here's where the timing comes in: In the meanwhile, we decided to squeeze in another cruise THIS summer to Alaska. My original plan was to do this the week of July 24--12 days AFTER returning from our Galapagos trip...AND, because we would have collected the 50 points for the Galapagos, we would have been Elite Plus for that one...

Unfortunately, my wife's work schedule just missed allowing for doing it the week of July 24...So, rather than book Alaska for July and after the Galapagos, we were able to fit it in for Jne 12--so we get back 12 days before departing for Quito...We booked a lower category cabin in order to save money after blowing this year's budget on the Galapagos trip...so it's worth only 2 points per night--bringing us to 744--and still Elite after this cruise (doesn't really make a difference how many points since there's no benefit on Xpedition to being Elite Plus rather than Elite)...

But, here's the difference a month makes in the ultimate timing of our Alaska cruise:

Had we done it after the Galapagos, we would have had unlimited cappuccinos, lattes and espressos, 200 free minutes of internet each, discounts on specialty restaurants and wine packages and more while onboard the Alaska cruise...

Again, not a big deal--I don't need to drink that many cappuccinos--and I can just pay for them when I want them...and I can pay for extra internet minutes if I run over the Elite 90...and the specialty restaurants will just cost me an extra $12 each time...

So, all these non-perks are optional--but really worth about a couple hundred dollars when all told...The difference in the order of booking two cruises within a month of each other in the wrong order!

Again, no big deal...but interesting in how it all worked out...

Steve -- it could always be worse.

You could still have Lavin at Pauley :)

    Best to Beth.
