I won't go into the technical details about "batch" processing and this is Federal holiday which may or may not affect bank operations and/or RCCL operations.  I wouldn't start worrying until Wednesday.

LOL, I run a company that builds PPM systems for the major global Pharma companies, and prior to 15 years here spent a couple decades in banking technology from the business side, mostly  EFT and Wholesale & Retail DDA systems, along with (really eye-opening!) Overnight Deposit Analysis systems.  So I understand how long the whole process takes.  If RCCL had processed a refund it would be showing now, early AM on the 18th. I am not worried, I just don't like RCCL's not being honest. Again.

  2. Not only do I not have any of the amounts refunded to my two credit cards, but Royal lied to me about having issued the credits yesterday.  I spoke with both Bank America and Citicard about any pending refunds, and they assured me that if ANY refunds were issued prior to 11PM last night they would at least show up as pending.  Nada. Yet Roman from RCCL's Resolution Desk essentially said "too bad, we've done all we are going to do and it will show up when it shows up".

I don't think they're giving us the full story here.  Is it delayed until 5PM because they need more time for cleaning or because they are waiting for the last results of testing?

Not that I will miss Nassau, but isn't it interesting they didn't cancel Coco Cay, their biggest profit driver?

    Exactly what I was thinking.

If they started the deep clean/sanitize after everyone was off the ship today, 2 PM Saturday embarkation makes sense.  Another 3  hours?  Odd.  But local and NYC news is reporting the ship has been cleared. I don't think we are getting the whole story either.

We were notified by RCCL while we were parked in our bus at the port (approx 11:30).  In hotel now (our expense for now but told to bring receipt onto ship).  Hopefully sail tomorrow.

The 6 PM update now says check-in begins at 5 PM Saturday with the ship sailing at 10 PM (fat chance!).  Nassau is cancelled.

  5. We suspect that among the many "cut backs" under "Lisa's reign was cutting back on the skill (and pay) of Celebrity's web site designer :(.

Hank, this was 18 months ago that they announced with a lot of hullabaloo they'd hired Accenture. I knew then it would not only end up being worse, but would costs hundreds of thousands of dollars if not nearly a million $. My career has been to clean up Accenture IT messes at various customers who make the same mistake X did.

Celebrity Cruises hires Accenture to boost digital experience

  6. Excellent point, and completely agree.

I'd suggest food stands out as you want to enjoy your cruise.

Sadly, there were three nights where I didn't really eat any dinner at all (including the last night) on my last Celebrity cruise, and even the others it was mostly very 'average.' That was probably the most negative lingering memory, but it's very significant, especially at the increased prices Celebrity charge.

I may as well pay less for a similar experience with a 3* cruise line.

Bingo! Where's the darn LIKE button? That is exactly my view!

  7. Oh! That explains the reviews on Viking Ocean. I sailed Royal Viking in 1986; they went out of business before my next booked cruise with them but they were the tops! I was devastated to see them go and didn't cruise again until the late 90's.Thanks for this info; I need to look at them closely as an alternative.

After about page 5 I stopped reading each entry in detail, so maybe this has been mentioned.

What????- "Do you remember when Celebrity was the best cruise line?" And exactly when was that? I know that Celebrity is a wonderful cruise line and the favorite of many, but if some think that at some time it was the BEST, no wonder folks are disappointed with many of the changes overtime.

Having been cruising and a cruising fan since the mid 1970s I found some comments interesting. For example:

    1. One related to the newness of Viking Ocean cruises and their high ratings. The comments was something like 'how can such a new line be so good and Celebrity is losing groun? or something to that effect. REMEMBER - ROYAL Viking (same corporate leadership) was a top tier OCEAN cruise line in the 1970s and 1980s. Not as formal as Cunard (QM, QE, QE2) but far above the other cruise lines. Then they closed shop (bankrupt???? do not remember). Then at some point the same Management folks started Viking River Cruises and now have returned to Ocean cruising. We were fortunate enough to cruise with Royal Viking and that set a standard have never been able to duplicate at prices we can pay.

  8. We recently got back from a 12 day cruise on Royal Caribbean. Excellent cruise, huge aft facing veranda stateroom, beverage packages and Diamond Status ( I know-big deal. LOL ). Really not much difference between them and Celebrity as far as service in general. Meals at complimentary and specialty venues on par with Celebrity.

We have since decided to book a 14 night cruise from New York City and spend the money that would have been wasted on air fare, hotels and other costs incurred when flying to Florida on the cruise price.

As long as Celebrity and Royal Caribbean, also suffering from staff reduction, are lowering their standards we decided to try NCL. Granted, not supposed to be of the same standards as Celebrity but with a huge aft veranda with 2 chaise lounges and two chairs, ultimate beverage package, specialty dining package, about a dozen places to eat and as many places to have a drink and since there is no longer any TRUE formal nights on Celebrity, (as witnessed by us, seeing dozens of passengers in shorts and flip flops on formal night), why not try what they call FREESTYLE and go on an unpretentious cruise that is only a three hour drive from home. It may be a giant ship, but like most things in life we will decide where, when and what we want to do and see on this new adventure.

I hope we are pleasantly surprised.

    bosco

Bosco, I live 25 mi from NYC, so tried NCL out of NY just once. Never again...horrid food, even at the highest rated specialty restaurants (I literally had to spit out food at 2 of those meals!), inescapable crowds and noise, impossible to get a seat at a bar, and the smell of smoke seemed to waft through the common areas.

But Celebrity, between diminished services and niceties, added to the hefty price increases, has lost its allure for me. I realized on my last cruise in 2016 it just gave me my "sea-fix" and little else. I still long for the sea, and being close to Cape Liberty, can easily do 2 or 3 7-8 day cruises a year in a nice balcony on Anthem solo occupancy for less than $1350 a cruise. Not what Celebrity was, but I have basic food, a few decent specialty restaurants, a very nice Diamond Lounge with decent cocktails and coffees all day, and I can turn off the crowds when I wish. I used to spend$12000-$15000 or more cruising with Celebrity every year, now my money goes elsewhere and I get my "sea-fix" for cheap

  9. Keep in mind that in the beginning Celebrity also did everything right. Then they grew, then they got taken over by another company, and then they got greedy. The rest is history. I hope Viking keeps it's great product - we'll see.

I recommended Celebrity numerous times to a 50ish friend and her husband, both professionals, empty nesters. After frustration with Celebrity website and customer service, the checked out Viking, and just returned from aabout 12 nights northern Europe and the Baltics. Their review: "Flawless Luxury without Pretension".

  10. In December 2016, on the day it announced, I booked the Nov 2018 Eclipse Transatlantic for Barcelona to Buenos Aires, AQ cabin, for $2549 plus tax per person dbl occ. I've been watching prices. That same A2 cabin is now $3700 per person! I've already cut back on my Celebrity cruises due to the combination of outrageous prices, and the constant erosion of the special touches that made Celebrity my first choice for vacations since 2009. From 2 to as many as 4 cruises with Celebrity per year, many of them at single occupancy 200% fare, I'm down to none this year and may only take 1 of 2 booked for next year. IMHO, Celebrity has stopped being Celebrity.:(

A link for info on therapeutic massage for cancer, also with a couple of references:

    https://www.cancercouncil.com.au/17958/b1000/massage-and-cancer-42/massage-and-cancer-benefits-of-touch/

    Quoting from this last article:

Some people worry that massage can spread cancer cells throughout the body via the lymphatic system. The lymphatic system is a network of vessels, organs and nodes through which lymphatic fluid (lymph) flows. It is part of the body’s immune system. Lymphatic circulation occurs naturally as we move.

Cancer may spread (metastasise) into the lymphatic system via the lymph nodes, or it may start in the lymphatic system itself. However, the circulation of lymph – from massage or other movement – does not cause cancer to spread. Researchers have shown that cancer develops and spreads because of changes to a cell’s DNA (genetic mutations) and other processes in the body.

I'm living with active non-Hodgkins Lymphoma (SLL), as well as CLL, a form of indolent but incurable leukemia. I get massages every three weeks from a massage therapist I've been working with for nearly 6 years, and my oncologist and the rest of my considerable medical team all tell me that not only is it not dangerous having massage, but keeping the lymph circulating rather than pooling in my neck, upper arms, and lower extremities is one of the best things I can do. And actually, it was something my massage therapist noticed during a massage in summer 2011 that got me to start seeing doctors, undergoing countless tests and numerous biopsies, and getting this diagnosis in late December, 2011.

    Cruisefam, thanks for the article.:)

  12. Peter, I'm Liesa of the group Norma spoke of. We are great fans of

I Made; he is always warm, friendly, attentive, an excellent bartender, and if he is running the bar, it runs well. Thank you for posting this picture; we all miss him. I use a mobility scooter onboard, and I Made insisted on valet parking my scooter anytime I showed up at the Martini Bar on Silhouette, where he was stationed on my 2015 and 2016 TAs. I think he loved driving it.

Btw, on my west-bound Reflection TA last autumn, 6'6" Maarten borrowed my small scooter and folded himself onto it for a few spins around the ship. His knees were almost against his chest. If you see him, ask him if he misses having the scooter to cruise the Oceanview Cafe. LOL.:D

I am missing not being on a TA this year; thank you for your wonderful Live review. It's bringing back fabulous memories! Enjoy it all!

We finally caught up with him! He seems like a happy chap. [emoji41]
