We had the highly desirable cabin 8232 and if you ever have the chance, grab it in a nanosecond! Its one of the bowling alley cabins. I cannot tell you how huge this balcony was. It felt like I was on a Superyacht and all that was missing was the cabin stew bringing me champagne.

I actually have that exact cabin booked for the December 19th xmas cruise.  I am solo in that cabin, my BFF and her husband are next door and my daughter is on deck 6 with her friend.  I am glad it is so big!

  2. We are currently booked for December 19th 2021 out of Tampa with Grand Cayman on the schedule.  Looks GC is closed until early 2022.  Anyone know what the substitute is likely to be or if they will even have a substitute?  I am perfectly fine with another sea day.

  3. I would not be willing to pay $50 per day x 2.  I am only a 3 star and was considering staying loyal to HAL and working my way to 4/5 star but if this program continues, then there is no incentive for me to do so.

I am going to start taking a much closer look at Celebrity and Princess for my summer Europe trip.

  4. What ship/date has a port call here?

I kept track of the port development a few years ago. HAL and others had port calls listed but little to no detailed information.

This is the first mention that I have seen for a long time.

This is the HAL Rotterdam New Years sailing. I really want to do a private excursion but that may not be possible.

  5. I am a long time cruiser and typically do most excursions on our own. I have never been to Trujillo and notice most posts on here are ancient. I am hoping someone has some updated information with private excursion suggestions.

Thank you all! Traveling with a 17 year old boy and 19 year old girl.

  6. I am not trying to argue with anyone. I am certainly not lying about the price discrepancy and I have other things to do than prove what I am saying.

Thank you all who answered my initial questions.

I am quite satisfied with the price I am paying. I have found my TA to always be cheaper if booked prior to final payment. After final payment, it's a crap shoot. Last November, I booked a last minute xmas cruise direct with HAL as the online TA had a similar price.

    Happy sailing all.

  7. Lesson of the day: it is okay to nickel dime HAL, but it is not okay for HAL to nickel dime us. The animal spirits have spoken.

I don’t consider $1700 nickels and dimes. I would happily book through HAL if they had the same price.

  8. I am sailing on the Rotterdam, 12/30/18 in a category B vista suite, 3 people.

When I booked this cruise, HAL quoted me $4700. My TA got the exact same cabin and date for $2972.

Now, I will say, the price via the TA has gone up $400ish since I booked.

  9. Just curious as that’s a pretty good discount. Do you get that 37% discount if you pick a specific cabin over a year out or does your TA give you a group discount because they have secured a certain number of rooms the last few months before the cruise and you just get to pick from those?

I booked this cruise last week, for winter break of this year. I had my pick of cabins and secured an aft wrap.

  10. We could care less what other people think or what they believe about the discounts offered by some TA's.

We will simply keep on enjoying those discounts. Cruises are commodities for many of us. I have no doubt that a HAL PCC is a very pleasant and well meaning individual. But so is my on line TA.

When we save 8-10 percent on an identical cabin, identical class etc. it translates into one free cruise for every 10-12 that we take.

The are some people who believe that the more they spend, the better the product. Makes them feel good. We are not in that space. Nor do we believe the nonsense that we have more 'control' over our booking. It just is not so.

    The difference for me:

    HAL price $4700

    TA price $2972

That's a big enough difference for me.

  11. Sounds like a great deal to me. Well done :)

If it was a non refundable booking (which I think you stated earlier), I doubt you will be able to do anymore with your booking without losing the deposit, but, you have scored a good deal :)

Actually, I did not have to give an additional deposit beyond the FCD and the $100 I paid HAL for my kids, which is refundable So, I am still hoping for the explore four....

Honestly, I am amazed at the disparity between HAL and the online broker. IMO, HAL should always be cheaper. Like a hotel saying we will beat any online price. I really don't understand and I am a fairly savvy cruiser. 3 star on HAL and other lines.

  12. Just as an update

I was able to move my booking to the online agency. I not only got to keep my free gratuities and the $50 FCD but I got an additional $300 obo for booking a suite plus the online agency gave me $50 obc and the suite was priced $1700 below the HAL quote.

So, I went from an inside cat. N to a B vista suite for $450 more and got $400 in OBC. It was a no brainer.

Hopefully, I can work some of that magic when the explore 4 comes out.
