We have done DCL,NCL,RCCL,Princess & Celebrity

Find them mote alike than different.

We find larger ships to be our preference.

Carnival offered a free Casino Match cruise so we took one of the most expensive ones offered to Hawaii.
We have a good time wherever we go 👍

How did you find Disney? I've never tried them but heard they are really nice. What did you think of the food?

How did you like Hawaii? It's on my bucket list but first is Alaska.

Totally agree cruising is a great time no matter where you go or what line.

It says OBC  is per cabin.

Both DH & my name r on the shares.

We r sailing w/ our YA kids next summer.

We had to book he in 1 cabin & I in another to get casino rate 4 both.

Will we get OBC for each cabin?

Where do you get this info for the OBC with NCL?  Im sure there are different amounts for different lengths of cruises, etc.  My sept one is only 5 nights while my march one is 8 nights.  Where do I get info about NCL shareholder benefits?  thank you again for any and all help.

Heck yes to all of this! We will always be loyal to NCL. Freestyle cruising is what we want and is what we have always been able to get here. Tried Two other cruise companies and said no way to them. We will keep our NCL stock and are buying more now. NCL will come roaring back soon.

The world is in chaos, be patient. 😊

I have NEVER tried Carnival. Some people like it, you couldnt get me on it. NOPE.

I tried Princess once-HATED IT. Service was horrible, food was hit or miss.

I first tried Celebrity-nice, fancy, crazy best service but boring and too old style cruising for me. no entertainment-wth?

I tried Royal Caribbean but alot of stuff is good for kids and they are a bit expensive for rooms when I can get a better room on NCL for cheaper. They have a type of freestyle dining but its just not the same and they have dress up nights, etc. I don't wanna dress up 😞. However, RCI food is to die for...

Now, NCL? they have it ALL-for me! No dressing up 🙂, eat when and with whom i want essentially allowing me to make my own itinerary.  Plus, fun entertainment for all ages and reasonably priced rooms. Food is especially really good in the specialty restaurants and basically that's all I eat in. NCL is my second home. BOOM! Guess who I am staying with ?? LOL LOL

All that being said, yeah Im going to buy the NCL stock and cross my fingers that NCL will allow me to use for this cruise, if not, i got september's cruise and next year 2023 March cruise and whatever else I book for next year after that one. Gotta do something for my 50th 🙂!!!! Just gotta figure what/where.

If this is your first stock purchase, I would avoid NCLH.  I would hate to leave that taste in your mouth.  The onboard credit is only worth while if you cruise often and often with NCLH.  If you own stocks, it will likely increase the cost of doing your annual taxes that could offset any OBC from NCL.

oh i almost forgot to respond to you.  i only cruise now with NCL.  I am platinum but will be saphire on my cruise in september so yeah i cruise alot with them and my plan is to stick with them because of my benefits AND the freestyle cruising (dinner schedules and dressing up are not my priorities when vacationing).  I just want to thank you for your advice as well. very much appreciated!! 🙂

Then you have nothing except the memories.  Hopefully you had a good ride while it lasted.  On the other hand, if it rebounds like most stocks will, it's all gravy.

LOL  Not knowing anything about stocks, there is one thing I do know, if a company's stock tanks to 0.00, the company will not exist anymore.  is that correct?  and if that is correct, I do not EVER foresee NCL going to 0.00.  At least not in the next few years as more and more people begin to enjoy cruising.  I began cruising in 2003 and there is such as huge difference in cruising now and so many more people go, its gotten to be an extremely popular way of vacation, especially for families.  But I digress...

    anything is possible.

That being said, perhaps i was rushing into this a bit and finding that i more than probable will be too late for the OBC for this upcoming cruise, perhaps I should pull in the reigns and hold the horses and think about things.

However, I am thrilled that I opened the E*trade account because I feel like if I am going to gamble money away, I rather it be in the market than in some machine in AC or Vegas or well, a cruiseship.

So, thank you all for the abundance of information and getting me off to a better start in life even if i am a little bit older to get into it, better late than never.

    THANK YOU!!!!!

from the bottom of my heart...

    YES!

Ok so believe it or not I just actually started an e*trade account.  What is the deadline of purchase to get on board credit? My cruise is next weekend.  I haven't purchased just yet. Also who do I call or email with the purchase info?

It's not the worst benefit in the world and it could work out for you.  These "shareholder benefit" programs used to be more popular.  Just go in with eyes open and understand your emotional experience with owning NCLH will not be the typical stock ownership experience.  There is logic to owning stock and there is emotion of owning stock.  If the OBC benefit is the nudge that gets you into the stock market and stock ownership , then that alone is worth it.

I've always encouraged stock ownership as a valued pathway to prosperity.  I've also said you should lose money on your first stock purchase so you can begin to gauge your emotions around money.  Better to learn on a $1000 investment than a $1 Million investment.  Believe me, after 40 years of stock I've learned a lot - losses happen, it's how you feel about it and your ability to get back up.

Here's what might be a silly question.  If I'm buying a 100 shares at $11 and it sinks to $7 a share and I have zero plans to sell, I'll always get the $100 on board credit right? I know ncl can fluctuate and go down to $7 people talked about it last year. However, as long as I remain in the long run I will always own 100 shares always giving me the $100 on board credit right?

  9. wow!  this is all such incredible advice.  ok, so, this will be my 2nd cruise next weekend for this year but I have another booked for this year and another next year.  the plan is to do about 3 cruises a year.  i dont plan on jumping out so quick because the plan is to use it for the OBC which is likely to be $300 a year.  yes, it will take me almost 4 years to get my money back but wouldnt that be worth it?

now, are there fees to buy stock or hold a stock?  because that will offset my OBC making the value less if you know what I mean.

yes, this will be my very, very first stock purchase.

No idea why they are classified as "PrivaSea" but they are just regular angled balconies. It's beyond me why they would tell you that the balcony cabin door does not open. That's just crazy...

do you know this as fact?  have you seen them in person?  i am contemplating switching my room because I am concerned about not having an opening door or worse a glorified window room!!

You have nothing to worry about.

10296 (port side) and 10896 (pictured) aren't obstructed or partially enclosed.

The balcony isn't actually PrivaSea even though the deck plan has the deck_legend_priva-sea_010917.png symbol. The actual PrivaSea balcony is on deck 13 directly under the bridge (Haven HG stateroom 13108/13708).

sorry to beat a dead horse with a stick but you would say 11296 is not obstructed either?  i booked it because it is an angled balcony but then read in red in my paperwork last night that it is an enclosed balcony.  someone sent me a pic of the epic enclosed balcony and all it was was a glorified window room!!!  OMG NOOOO!  so it scared me.  could you kindly help please?  thanking you in advance.

I booked my cruise on the Joy to Bermuda , and when we were speaking with the agent, all the cabins he mentioned had a bit of an angle, I asked if they were different and he said there is a slightly larger balcony.  I did some more research and found these were PrivaSea cabins.    I'm a bit concerned because some of the photos online look terrible, and the chat with NCL said that yo can't open door to the balcony.  I'm very confused as to what this is exactly on the Joy.  Any advice, should I be changing my cabin? I only found out because I saw the indicator on another site.

Hi, I have same question about 11296 which is supposed to be an angled balcony.  Did you go on your cruise to bermuda yet?  did you keep the angled balcony room?  if so, what was your experience?

  13. Good evening,

sorry to cut into this conversation but is there a cost for the COVID tests at the piers before you depart?  I live in NY and want to book a cruise from NY and the whole COVID testing thing is very confusing to me.  any help at all would be very much appreciated.

    thank you!

On the bright side, maybe better chances to win upgrade bids for lower cost!!

Sent from my iPhone using Forums

Just wanted to mention I am about 78 days away from my cruise.  I was just awarded my upgrade bid (which was the lowest possible bid $125 pp for mini suite) was AWARDED!!  usually they don't handle these until a few days or a week before the cruise.  meanwhile I just looked into the cancellation policy on Wednesday night.  suspicious to me...   well, if I decide to go, I went from an oceanview room to a mini suite with balcony for $125 pp!!!!!  Guess I will enjoy the balcony IF I am quarantined for 14 days!!!!!!!!!!!  and NO I am not sick.  Just sayin...

  15. My wife Donna and I loved cruising, taking close to twenty during our 18yr marriage. Sadly, she passed away last year and I'm considering taking my first solo cruise. Probably one of Carnival's 3-4 day Mexican cruises, as the Long Beach terminal is so convenient. We are also Platinum members so that always makes boarding and other things a delight.

Any suggestions for me for this first solo trip? I haven't booked anything yet, but want to start planning for 2019.

Shotput50: i just came back from my very first solo cruise. my 21st cruise overall. let me tell you, best decision EVER! my solo cruise was a 7 nighter from NY on NCL, I am platinum. I can tell you I had a blast, relaxed, ate too much and met several nice people that i even had dinner with and did excursions with. No regrets. Yes, to be honest, there are times you will be a lil lonely seeing people in couples and families together but the odd sense of being able to do whatever YOU want anytime YOU want to really trumps the slight loneliness. so i say go for it! enjoy yourself.

  16. Hello I have a spa balcony booked April 7th 2018 on the Escape through CAS. My wife and I have more recently decided to part ways and she is on the reservation and does not want to go. I am 49, I have been on ten cruises (the escape twice) all with her and am trying to talk myself into still going alone...I definitely have concerns as I won’t know anyone, I have drink package, dining package and just cannot wrap my mind around walking into Cagneys or le bistro, alone. We always got the vibe and I would want that for social I guess. I am just not sure at all...the singles have the lounge I think to meet people...any opinions out there on all of this?

Hey Stockton111, I am in similar situation. Been on 20 cruises all with my husband (now soon to be officially ex). Been with him more than half my life, i am younger than you. I recently booked my upcoming first solo cruise on a whim and freaked out right after. But you know what? Look for your "roll call" and make friends on cruise critic so you have some people to meet up with when you get on the ship. I know you are probably broken hearted and dont want to feel lonely. Neither do I. But if you make friends on here, and you are an outgoing person, maybe you wont feel so lonely. I hear you on not wanting to sit in the dining room alone. Ive been eating in restaurants, etc. alone for a little bit now and to be honest, its not unheard of, its not so bad. Again, if you are an outgoing person, usually waiters or waitresses will talk to you for a bit. Hey, you dont even have to share your food LOL LOL kidding!! Im just saying that sometimes life throws curveballs at you that you would have never imagined but no matter what, you have to keep going, keep moving and most importantly....KEEP CRUISING!!! Good luck to you. :halo:

  17. This-100%

I sailed on DCL 16 times over 14 years and watched as adult only spaces and entertainment was whittled away and it got to the point they weren't even enforcing the areas that were left as adult only. That and rising prices sent me to NCL.

I may be over 60, but I still want to relax and have fun and enjoy the ropes courses, slides, etc.

Cruise lines that cater to the older crowd are way more formal and quiet than I prefer. And no fun slides!

I don't mind kids, I had two and now have grandkids. I don't mind cruising with them, I just want the parents to not take a vacation from parenting while on vacation.

And please keep the adult only areas adult only. We aren't allowed in the kids club, right?

And the problem with the Haven is that it was never meant to be a quiet place, so the name is misleading. All those two bedroom suites prove otherwise. And you'd think that if they pay those prices to stay in the Haven, people will be more polite and respectful of others, right?

    Uh, no.

Those who pay more seem to feel entitled to do whatever they wish, apparently, as I have observed.

The real problem boils down to a lack of consideration for other people's space and experiences. Also seen on elevators, pool chair hogging, and seat saving in theaters onboard.

It's happening in every aspect of life in this day and age.

    Me Me Me

You nailed it perfectly. Thank you. I've seen some truly rude people, yes, even in the Haven.
