  1. Good review, thanks :)

There really is a Wow factor the first time you board as ship like Indy! Done Indy 3 times and Navigator last month and it still feels special as soon as you board. Boarding at Southampton certainly beats airport check-in! Likewise, although depressing, disembarkation is equally as seamless and you are in your car before you know it :(

We did the Mediterranean Beaches on the Navigator a week earlier than you - interesting that Corsica / Sardinia were dropped from yours as the itineraries were originally the same - it was only the departure date that led us to the Navigator cruise. Do RCCL say why the itineraries changed; I assume it was before departure rather than midway through?

  2. We recently upgraded to a JS about 6 weeks before departure.

Originally had an Oceanview on Deck 3. I saw that the Guaranteed Junior Suite price had dropped significantly, and also there was only only one JS left to book.

If I selected the actual cabin it was around £800 more than the guarantee JS price, so took a punt and booked the guarantee stateroom. Later that day it was confirmed as the room that was left, so got it £800 cheaper. :D

Amazingly, the overall upgrade from Oceanview to JS was under £150 as prices were dropping as it got closer to the departure date, although we did lose the Select drinks package we originally received when we booked. This was not a biggie as not huge drinkers :)

  3. I just had an idea. All loungers could be equipped with digital timers on the top. While someone is sitting in the lounger, the timer stays at zero, sensing the body weight. As soon as they get up, it starts counting up, showing how long the chair has been unoccupied. Problem solved!!! :D

Great minds and all that :D

'Cheaper' version of your idea posted 2 minutes earlier!! :o

  4. Navigator (out of Southampton) last month was Deck 4 (starboard I think), PART of the casino was designated for smoking, a section of Deck 11 (by the pool  - the section undercover (port side) and in front of the pool bar on Deck 12. As the ships are very similar and both sail out of Southampton in the summer, they MAY be the same??

  5. Most recent visit to JR's on NOTS was poor compared to previous visits on IOTS. They maybe minor things but no Hi's / Bye's when customers entered / left, and no waitresses / chef dancing.

As I say, fairly minor, but without these its just another burger joint!! :(

  6. Sabor is a flat fee on Navigator

And subject to 'hard sell'!! 'Representatives' of Sabor, Chops & Giovanna's would often approach you in Vintages, Cafe Promenade and even the Windjammer (whilst eating ) to 'sell' some deal or other for their restaurants. Great if you were considering because I guess you may strike a deal, but annoying if of no interest.

yes, you can politely say quite quickly 'not interested' but they are almost as annoying as Chuggers in London. It feels quite a 'tacky' sales method really :(

  7. We used a six-gang UK socket attached to a EU 2 pin plug. This was 230v.

The US socket is 110v so provides lower power - i.e. hairdryers aren't as powerful (I know - 1st world problems ;) )

Sockets are low to the dressing table are so if a fixed lead is quite bulky it can sometime be difficult to plug straight in as there isn't enough leeway for the lead (hope that makes sense)

  8. Well I think our definition of "decent" isn't quite the same - Blue Moon, really? Blah...and what's so special about Stella?

Anyway, I'm not getting the drinks package, that's why I like the Foster's cans

    :D NP

    Horses for courses!!:)

I guess the world would be boring if we all liked the same things!! I did try the Coors (silver bullet?) tin - thought it was awful but that and Bud seemed very popular with UK drinkers??? :)

  9. Only benefit of the Oil can is the size!! It's like making love in a canoe .... (you'll need to Google the punchline if you don't know it ;) )

Plenty of 'decent' beers on the packages - Peroni, Stella, Becks, Blue Moon etc.

Plus some good 'proper' beers like London Pride and Old Speckled Hen - just make sure you get a room temperature one, not a chilled bottle. These are 500 ml as well, so better than 330 ml bottles of lager!

  10. I have a question for you. I'm driving down from Heathrow to Southampton for my trip in October.

I've been to Stonehenge and not really into Castles. I've also been to the New Forest.

What would you recommend I go touristing at on the way down.

    Thanks all.

Windsor town is good for a walk around (there is a castle but there is more to see apart from this). Haven't been, but Portsmouth is supposed to be a good visit now. They have a relatively new viewing tower on the seafront plus a harbour etc. Also an outlet shopping centre if that's your thing!!

  11. Navigator showed the opening ceremony on the pool screen next morning starting at 11.00, then switched live to the men's cycling road race. We disembarked after this so not sure what else they showed but there is the potential for more to be shown. :)

I think it was a BBC stream but can't be 100% sure!

  12. Also my OH loves coffee are there any places to get specialty coffee if we upgrade her drinks package to ultimate?

They serve Starbucks within Cafe Promenade - its not a separate store so the same queue as Ben & Jerry's and sodas! Menu was relative limited but did the most popular coffees plus some frappucininos!

Star Lounge has limited capacity so plan your meals / shows accordingly so you can get a seat if this is your preferred evening location - usually a live band plus some Entertainment team activities - quizzes, complete the lyric games etc. . They is also Boleros, R Bar, Cosmopolitan and Schooners but again they fill quickly.

    Enjoy :D

  13. Weather will be fine for touring, as long as you are not planning on going to the beach. but then, one doesn't go to the Med. to go to beaches. EM

Hmmm, a lot do, especially in summer holidays. In fact Navigator do a Mediterranean Beaches cruise - I've just come off it!!

Mallorca, Corsica, Sardinia, Malaga etc. all have great beaches within travelling distance of ports :)

  14. I believe you might be right.

At a vacation resort in Turkey I learned the difference between british and "brits". Our hotel most certainly had the "brits". I suspect that the all inclusive alcohol package for free might attract more "brits" than british.

I believe they sometime go by the name "chav":

    http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/news/4039825.Yobs_blamed_for_ruining_Ventura_cruise/

Hmm, Chav maybe correct - Wikipedia article is here:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chav

Unfortunately the All-Inclusive did attract parents & grand parents who drank pina coladas and Bud's all day and let the children have a free rein - you could guarantee seeing the same faces at the pool bar from 9-6 every day, and then suddenly realising ½ way through they did actually have their children on the ship when you saw them in the evening (briefly - before the children went off on their own again!). On the whole it wasn't an issue (don't forget we were all children once so would run around a bit or be mischievous with lift buttons :o) but you got the odd issue with 'cocky' children blocking corridors etc. - Security could have nipped this in the bud early on but were quite invisible.
