  1. Bumping this up for attention.

Would like to know as well. Traveling with someone this time that has mobility issues and we'll be relying on the pedicabs

  2. We visited Rose Hall Plantation many years ago. I remember enjoying it. Great history and the inside of the house was beautiful. The spiked punch sample was tasty!

We're heading to Montego Bay in September and I saw that the excursion was available again. It has terrible reviews. As a matter of fact, it was disappointing to see that most of the Jamaica excursions have bad reviews.

    Have fun!

  3. Hi everyone

Sailing on the Paradise soon. I have school work that I will need to complete.  I know the Paradise has an internet cafe; however, I can't find any details about computer availability.

    Should I bring my laptop?

Also, I've already signed up for the premium internet. If I do find a computer to use, is there an additional charge or will I just sign in through my paid internet.

    Thanks!

  4. Hey folks!  We'll be on the Carnival Paradise in September, first stop Montego Bay. I'm not seeing anything of interest on the Carnival site as far as excursions go. I've only ever visited the Ocho Rios port in the past so I'm not sure what to expect. Due to safety issues, I'm a bit apprehensive about private tours.

    Any pointers to offer?

    Thanks!

  5. Steve just posted this on their FB page.    Sad to see him go.  Hopefully the “new” Tropicante will be just as good!

Okay guys, it looks like the ships are gearing up and ready to return to cruising, and to Costa Maya. But as for Maggie and I, we will not be returning with them. We had some fun times, met lots of great people and have many wonderful memories we will cherish forever, but I guess all good things must come to an end. From our regular cruisers, to our crew family, as well as those we met only for a few hours, we want to thank you all for the fun times and the memories you left with us. We will be eternally thankful to you all. And most of all, special thanks to our wonderful staff who made us look good each day. Many came and went, but there was one constant from the very beginning and that was our Jorge, aka George. I told him waaaaaay back when he started, his number one job was to make sure every person left with a smile on their face, and in all those years, he never failed to do that. We love and will miss him the most, because he really is family. And one day soon, he is moving to the US too, and even though we know he has his own plans, we hope he will be close enough so we can pick up where we left off.
And also Carolina, our manager, who took over the day to day running of the operation about half way along the journey, for allowing me to step away from the business and spend the last couple years of my Mom’s life getting caught up, after so many years that I was too busy to go home. When my Dad passed, Carolina saw how hard it was on me to not be there for my Mom and she told me, “go home. I can handle this” And she did, and Maggie and I will be forever grateful for that. She has worked through the entire pandemic with a small staff and doing just enough business to keep the lights on and everyone fed. I always said, she is the hardest working person in Costa Maya, and she still is. I have given her the name and business, and she will continue to run it from the same location until I can get the building sold. When that happens, her plan is to continue the Tropicante at a new location in Costa Maya, so she and the Tropicante, are not leaving. Her new Tropicante Facebook page will be up shortly, and will be posted here for you to bookmark and begin to communicate with her via that.
And as for us, 2 pandemics (swine flu in 09 and Covid in 20), total destruction in a cat 5 hurricane, a half dozen other direct hits by smaller ones, endless corruption, constant failure of water, electric and internet services, a Sargasso invasion that now lasts about 6 months a year, an attempted lynching for PWG (Profiting While Gringo), drug war violence and the endless harassment from other businesses, is enough for one lifetime. Probably two lifetimes to be honest. We’re just getting too old for all that and need an easier life. …

  6. Tropicante is awesome; however, I've never been alone.   I wouldn't say it's unsafe, but you WILL get inundated with hawkers and others trying to mislead you in to going to the wrong bar.

Also, as of right now Tropicante is closed.   I actually was inquiring about September and Steve's website isn't even functional right now.  I HOPE his business survives the pandemic and he's able to open back up.

  7. Honestly, I would book with the cruise ship especially if there are a lot of ships in port on the day you go.   Getting a taxi can be a little hectic when there are tons of people all trying to do the same thing.

Another reason we didn't book directly because my daughter's friend was with us and not being her parent, I wanted any kind of trip liability to be in someone else's hands.  LOL

We were in the taxi for about 20 minutes to get to Wild Tours.    The cruise excursion includes transportation to and from the port which was one last thing to worry about.

Don't forget to stay on SHIP time!  (an hour difference than Cozumel time)

  8. It’s a small dock you can walk to the end of and jump in and a ladder to get out.    Most of the cenote tours do t let you jump off the rocks anymore.    I would double check prior to booking.

Sketched out meaning it’s not the “paradise” it looks like in the photos.   There’s not a zero entry point to walk in.... just that one dock and 30+ feet of water

The xrail ride is so worth it.    Just remember to have closed toe shoes on!

  9. It was not as “grand” as I thought it would be.   One guy from our group jumped in, but we were a little sketched out Lol.  The sulphur smell is overwhelming and LOTS of insects.     The water is so dark and it’s about 30-50 ft deep if I remember correctly.     The tequila tasting was free but they want you to buy it of course.   Prices for that were reasonable.   The flavors were really good!

Just wondering if you did this excursion in April and what you thought about it? We are considering our options and this looks like fun.

We did!    We actually lucked out and were the ONLY ones from our ship doing the tour and only 12 other people from other ships.    It was so much fun.   The Xrails ran great.   The cenote was a bit of a disappointment (I had different expectations).  Our tour guide was great and make sure you do the tequila tasting at the end.    I think it was totally worth the money.  You're actually driving for 30-45 minutes each way through the "jungle".

    Enjoy!

  11. Hi all!

We'll be in Cozumel next week.  Traveling on RCCL Brilliance with my daughter and her friend.   We are all US Citizens

I have paperwork (travel authorization) from friend's parents.

When we get to Cozumel, should I have passports with us when we leave and return to ship or should I just take a copy of it as well as the authorization since I'm not her parent?

    Thanks in advance!

  12. Hello all!

We'll be in Cozumel in April 2019 (Brilliance)

Normally, I would check out a private tour; however, this time we will have my daughter's friend with us and I would prefer to stay with a ship sponsored excursion since her parents will not be with us. Not to mention, I've checked and there are SEVEN ships in port that day, which in my experience is a madhouse.

That being said, I'd like input on the Xrail to Jade Caverns. RCCL is offering a 4 seater vehicle, which would work perfectly for us.

    Pros & cons?

  13. Hi All!

Scheduled to go on the Sensation in November with my 13 yr old daughter.

Wanted to know if anyone can offer up pros and cons with the Cirlce C program.

She's very excited and I'm sure it will be a full group since it's Thanksgiving week.

Also, I'm a bit leery with letting my daughter come and go from the program without having to be signed out. Any tips would be appreciated, especially with things to discuss ahead of time as well as staying in communication with each other.

    Thanks so much!

  14. We booked an obstructed view balcony guarantee.. have now been assigned a room

    NCL Dawn #8020

I do know that it is not obstructed, and is not one of the hull balconies. I do see that it is REALLY forward and over the theater.

Anything else I should be on the look out for? I've never had a cabin so forward, so wondering how much motion there will be. (normally, anyway) We're not going to have much luck changing at this point. It's an upgrade from what we paid for.

  15. . :D Keep Coming Back and Happy Cruising!

    ::snicker:: I got it. LOL

I'm actually quite appalled at the nerve of the OP. Seriously? Although not an alcoholic myself, I'm quite familiar with the ways meetings work as well as the people who CHOOSE to go to them. I know at home we can't call up the local church and say I need a meeting at ::insert time here:: because your scheduled time is inconvenient for me. I DO know however, that people who need/want to go to Friends of Bill W on a cruiseship are going to go regardless of the time. I think 7pm is a great time and I think that it's awesome that the ships actually set a place/time aside for people in need. 7 is just after dinner... all the excursions are done for the day... still have time to catch a show... and it's also the time that "drinking" activities start for the evening. A perfect reason to go to a meeting to remind the "A" why they are there...

    Anyway... just my two cents.
