  1. 2-750ml bottles per stateroom, to be consumed in your stateroom. Corkscrews if needed, plus wineglasses available from your stateroom attendant. Best in carryon bag so you don't get called to naughty room for suspected smuggling of excess wine.

  2. I know this topic has been mentioned in passing over time, but is there a regular deal going on with a couple of bottles of vino at a reasonable price offered outside the entrance to the Oceanview Café? I have never seen it personally, but does it happen and what's the deal? Going on an Alaskan next week and it might be tempting for balcony consumption, even with drink package!

We've done 3 Alaska cruises on Celebrity and have always had laundry.  If you are Elite with free laundry you might be limited to 20 pieces instead of 30.

Thanks for the info - your response has triggered further remembrance of previous reading of this board. We are Elite and always make use of this perk.

  4. We will be cruising to Alaska in a couple of weeks on Eclipse. In the back of my mind from reading postings in the past, was a comment that laundry services are not offered for all or part of Alaska cruises for fear of polluting the water. Can any Alaska cruisers out there refute or confirm this notion? We are trying to figure out how much stuff to bring.

  5. We are considering moving up to a Family View Balcony stateroom on the Eclipse. As you may know, this is considerably larger than the usual 190 square feet of a normal balcony cabin. With this added size and the fact that there 3 separate living spaces, are we going to be given more than the usual outlets at the desk? Can someone who has been in an FV on Solstice class provide their knowledge of this? I hate the idea of extension cords all over the stateroom. Not a deal breaker, but nice to know.

  6. If you got the Unlimited Wifi as one of your perks. Each of you will receive a free internet account. You simply logon when on the ship and provide Portfolio Number (on key card) and create a username and 4 digit passcode.

You can stay connected 24 hours a day. The speed is relatively slow - like your old dial up modem speed.

Geez… I never got 20mbs on dialup. It can be slow some times during the day, like just before dinner time, but it is fast enough for Netflix, for example. I watched the NHL Stanley Cup games while going Transatlantic last spring. I was able to download a dvd image file - 4.5 gB in less than a hour. So, calling it dialup modem speed is not an accurate characterization.

  7. I have had the Xcelerate service twice in the last year - Equinox in Caribbean and Silhouette Transatlantic. I experienced speeds up to 2MB/sec (note MB not Mb), so really good. This is under ideal conditions. With many passengers having internet as a perk, you will have times where there are lots of users online - service does get impacted before supper, for example. Under good conditions, Skype or Netflix is no problem. I even watched NHL hockey playoffs this spring, although with time changes while crossing the ocean, the novelty wore off pretty quickly with games happening at 3 am!

You will notice a delay when press buttons that send a reply - your signal needs to go up to a satellite and down to Miami (~50,000 miles) before it hits the internet, but once it starts streaming data, it is really fast.

Bottom line, I believe the technology on Celebrity is the same as that used by Royal Carib., so you should be happy.

  8. No Hot Glass show. The space is how used for charging people to learn to blow their own glass bauble. I had looked so forward to the hot glass show.

I believe there is still a hot glass show with the optional blow your own for a price. I read that Corning Museum is a non-profit company and would not allow a price for admission nor hands on. The new provider, Hollywood Glass, out of Fort Lauderdale can do this. That`s what others have reported, at least. If you think about it, the old Corning show only used the space for 1-2 hours per day. The new provider is better using the facility.

  9. We were on Silhouette last month on the transatlantic crossing. We ate EVERY night in the MDR. Not once was the food cold. Not once was the food tasteless. We had consistently good service throughout. I think the original poster was victim of the charter cost cutting that I read about before. Different menus, fewer staff, lower standards.

  10. I'm looking for some your experiences for this question.

We are travelling on Eclipse next May (2019) and have selected 'Best' for our perks choice. Our grown-up daughter is with us, but is not interested in an alcoholic beverage package. She does, however, enjoy the many coffee options available with the 'Classic' non-alcoholic package.

When we were on Equinox last year, she was awarded that package , plus a 40-minute internet package

when we went with the 'full Monty' of perks. Even when I go back and blind book the cruise again with the same sailing and perk choices, the terms and conditions popup indicates that this should be the case for any cabin class other than 'Inner'.

However, when I asked our travel agent about this, she phoned Celebrity and was told that only suites get this bonus for this sailing.

Has the lack of knowledge by a Celebrity rep. struck again, or are we due to be pleasantly surprised?

  11. Went to a travel agent-sponsored event last week that featured a spokesperson from Celebrity. Talk included comments that ALL M and S-class ships would be 'Edgified' starting in 2019. Apparently these will be massive refits including all staterooms being replaced (down to bare metal) with new layouts similar to those of the Edge-class ships. She seemed to suggest these ship outages from service would be a lot longer than the normal 1-2 weeks.

  12. we were on Equinox in May and used collapsible cubes purchased at dollar tree and other similar stores. size was maximum 1 Ft cubed to fit in overheads. where we got them shows they need not be expensive. they fold flat so don't add much to your baggage. handy for stuff like socks, underwear, etc. daughter used one for her makeup and hair straightened.

  13. Day 3 - MDR & Blu Menus -

We are on the same cruise - I had the Chicken Kiev off of the MDR menu. It was one of the BEST cruise meals I ever had. Not traditional kiev - a big chicken breast fillet, breaded and topped with a garlic butter sauce. Told the waiter that I wished it was available on the everyday part of the menu.

  14. Photo of ship # 1 has red chairs in MDR...Connie? Our fav of the M class

Descrip of ship # 2 says last refurb was 2015..anyone know refurb dates?

Hoping it is NOT the Infinity...we are booked for Oct 2017, just purchased air, booked pre-cruise hotel etc. If it's Infin we stand a chance of cancellation or worse yet being dangled along as they did with Infin the year they rented it out and wiped out a number of cruises including ours..

If anyone can firmly ID ships it would be helpful to those booking or planning to book those M class ships.

Thanks to O P for the heads up...

    Infinity refurb 2015

    Summit refurb 2016

  15. New to Celebrity and considering a Veranda cabin on Equinox. Are all Veranda cabins equal in size with the location determining the category? Is the view on all Veranda cabins looking out or over lifeboats? I think I figured out if there is a square or triangle in the description is that cabin the bed is near the bath and ones next would be bed by the balcony is that correct? What is the benefit of the CC category? Is there a benefit to being on the straight part of of the hump?

square = stateroom has convertible sofabed

triangle = stateroom has 'Pullman' bed that drops down from the ceiling - located above sofa

  16. Hey!

I was curious to hear you guys' opinion on the silhouette of the new Celebrity Edge. The top decks seem to have many exotic forms and was wondering what they could be.

Here's a picture of the steel cutting showcasing the silhouette of this new ship:

    Thanks!

    Nic

nowhere did the announcement say that the trophy represented what the new ship would look like. It is simply a commemoration of the event. There is no way Celeb would give away so much so soon, if Solstice was a guide.

  17. I was reading a current message thread here about a recent cruise on Summit. A comment was made that Summit will be taken out of the fleet in 2018. It was stated as if it was a matter of fact. Did I miss something? Is this true? I know that 2 new ships are on the way, but this doesn't necessarily mean that ships are leaving.

  18. Forgive me if this has been answered before, but there is much discussion concerning the upgrade from the Classic to Ultimate alcoholic beverage package, but I don't recall seeing anything about moving from non-alcoholic to alcoholic packages. My wife and I will be sailing with all of the Best perks next spring. Our 26-year old daughter is joining us and will benefit from the Classic non-alcoholic package as a result. She will enjoy those premium coffees etc., but is also partial to a cocktail or three as well. Can this perk be simply upgraded with the difference in price for these packages?

  19. Equinox is switching to Miami , the 4/24/17 cruise isn't scheduled to embark until 6pm. So everyone off ship by 9:30, depart Pt Everglades 10am arrive Miami 11:30, start boarding and finish loading provisions. Sail at 6pm. If they leave a little late, no problem, 1st port is Bahamas.

I guess for those boarding in Miami the message might be: don't expect to arrive at the port at 10am and expect to be able to board. I'm thinking that everything will have to go right at FLL and the staff hustle to evacuate everyone double quick. I do remember a documentary about Voyager of the Seas that said 7-8 to refuel, but I might be wrong.
