  1. Hi!

I just made a small change to one trip we are taking with Rome Cabs. I received an email within a few hours which included all the details and confirmation information.

It is weird how they confirm- I was a little leery, but the email I received today details all 3 tours we have hired them for.

Sent from my iPhone using Forums

What was odd about the confirmation that made you feel leery? I have used this company for more than a decade and have always found them to be top of the line. I think getting a confirmation within three hours from another country is fantastic service. I am still waiting over a week for a confirmation from another part of Europe. You have nothing to be concerned about with Stefano and his team, there is no finer company in Italy!

  2. Has anyone ever personalized the standard Rome tour from port to Rome? We plan on using this company if they can change out some stops that we feel we can see on foot from our hotel for other less accessible stops. I will e-mail to ask them but I have seen on their web site that they will personalize a tour. Just wondering if others have done this and if the experience was as good or better than the "standard" tour.

    Thank you.

There is no better company than Stefano’s Rome Cabs or Stefano’s Rome tours, ESPECIALLY if you want a customized tour. His team will create a personified tour just for you with your family’s interests in mind. One year they took us to the Ferrari showroom so my son could check out a car up close and personal. You won’t see that on any standard tour! Keep in mind that if you are asking the driver to go a further distance or a longer day there would be more costs but the only limitations would be your wish list and pocketbook. I can’t speak highly enough about the company!

  3. You have NOTHING to worry about. I have worked with Stefano for going on 15 yeats now and he has ALWAYS been perfect. No other company in Italy will take care of you like him. I could not imagine even considering anyone else!

  4. We have been going to Italy each summer for about 15 years now. Often we take a Med cruise for part of our three week stay. Generally we avoid cruise line tours unless they are just a transfer to do a town on our own.

We avoid cruiseline tours as they are always a big crowd. Because there are so many people you can't see and do as much as you could in a small group. Also you are held to their predetermined itinerary.

We have been to Rome more times than I can count but each year Stefano who owns both Stefano Rome Tours [http://www.stefanorometours.com]and Rome Cabs [http://www.romecabs.com/] has always been able to come up with something unique for me. This past summer we visited the villages around Lake Bracciano it was just beautiful and we also went in the castle. It was a picture perfect day one I never would have thought of.

I would suggest contacting him and talking about what is most important to you. Instead of wasting your time on a crowded bus or waiting for some slow walkers or people who don't follow directions (there are always a few in every group) that will be eating up your precious time in Rome you can have a tour customized just for your own needs

  5. This will be our first time in Italy and we will be staying in a hotel in Rome for a few days prior to our sailing on the Celebrity Silhouette for a TA. I want to book with Romecabs (Stefano’s) to Civitavecchia Port. My question is, does the Romecabs take you directly to the cruise ship or do they drop you off at the port entrance. Thanks in advance.

I can't speak for other companies buy Stefano's Rome Cabs always has brought me directly to the vessel no matter what cruise line I was sailing on. They bring you right up ship side where the porters are and assist you with giving the bags to the porters. Everything is very smooth and seamless.

There is no better company in Italy in my opinion.

  6. Over the past decade Stefano has become like family to us, not only does he run the best tour company in Italy in my opinion but he is just such a warm, caring person it is unfathomable to me to even consider booking with someone else.

It was our 25th anniversary and Stefano said he had something special planned for us but wouldn't let on to me what it was. He picked us up at our hotel and we headed out from Rome. A little under an hour we arrived in the beautiful village of Bracciano which is named after the lake it boarders. There is a castle in the village that we visited and he told me all of the stories about the past inhabitants, even Tom Cruise was married here(although that didn't work out so well lol) after that we visited two more villages, Anguillara and Trevignano.

Trevignano was my favorite with the medieval borgo but Anguillara was beautiful as well and the houses built into the mountain reminded me of Cinque Terre or Sorrento. If you were an Everybody Loves Raymond fan you would recognize the village as this is where they filmed a lot i of the episodes when the family went to Italy.

It was such a magical day, even though I have been to Italy more times than I can count I had never heard of this area. This is a brand new tour meant to be done on the way to or from the port, great for early arrivals to kill time, but, I would highly recommend it for peop,e like myself that were in Rome before a tour or even just vacationing. It was a nice break from the hustle and bustle of Rome.

Really a perfect day- here is a link to the tour.

You just can't go wrong with Stefano whether it be with tours or transfers he has no equal!

  7. Can you please tell me how much each transfer cost? We will need the same transfers for September, thanks.

The price depends on how many people here is a link to the website where you can check pricing. However I know that if you do tours as well you can sometimes get a bundled price for several shore excursions and round trip transfers you would have to email about that.

    http://www.romecabs.com/ The email is info@romecabs.com

  8. If you are going directly point-to-point, then perhaps a flight is easier and faster. Perhaps. (Are you factoring in the amount of time in your layover, and the amount of time getting from the airport into Venice, not to mention that most cruisers will need to check and retrieve luggage?)

But for someone who is looking to spend a few days in Rome and then travel to Venice, here's why I think the train is a better option. First you have to get back to the airport, which is at least a 30-45 minute trip either via a 50 euro taxi ride or a train ride with onload/offload of luggage. Plus the recommended margin of time to arrive at the airport before your flight. Plus the flight itself. Plus getting from airport in Venice to Piazzale Roma.

Most of that hassle is negated by the high speed trains. You are transported from city center to city center, and you only need to arrive a few minutes before your departure. Add to that the fact that travel is much more pleasant on the high speed trains, you have scenery to view and you can get up and move around if you want.

Finally, add to the above the fact that if you book in advance you can usually get a "super economy" fare that is as low as 36 euro for the trip.

To me, it's a great value and really pretty much of a wash on the actual time needed.

I'm sorry I wasn't clear I always would spend a couple days in Rome before heading up to Venice so there's no layover involved. I just think flying is much easier faster and more convenient, but many people think like you do and prefer the train.

  9. I don't understand why people always say train when asked about getting around in Europe. I have sailed out of Venice many times and ALWAYS book my long haul round trip Rome. Rome to Venice is a one hour flight, actually less in real time, the cost is less than $100. I think I usually pay around $75.

Sure you could take the train but to me flying is just so much easier and faster.

  10. Oh boy I miss Stefano!!! Maybe next year. Fingers crossed

I did the lake bracciano Etruscans Ceri ceveteri tour from civiitavecchia with Stefano the great himself!!!!

Well I am getting the pleasure of the big guy himself as well in a few weeks!

It is our 25th anniversary and he has something special planned for us. I don't know where I am going except that I have not done this tour before - no one has.

I am going to be the "inaugural" of his brand new tour, it is to be a spin off of one of his signature tours that he created based on his own interests but I don't know which one or where lol.

I keep going back to the website looking at tours trying to figure out what I will be doing. All he will let on is that it will be romantic and very special and a nice contrast from the rest of my trip.

I will be away until August as we are to Sicily and then Paris after my Globus tour but I will pop back in and le you know about my special day. The suspense is going to drive me crazy!

  11. Does anyone happen to know, what is the difference between Stefano Rome Cabs and Stefano Rome Tours? Is Rome Cabs the primary company for transfers and 'do it yourself' tours that are coordinated by their people and is Stefano Rome Tours more of a set schedule type operation? Thanks in advance, gotcha3.

Both companies are owned by Stefano Constantini, I have been a client of each for more than a decade.

Rome Cabs, http://www.romecabs.com/ is Stefano's original company. It is focused mainly on transfers such as from FCO (Rome Airport) to your Rome city hotel or to or from the port of Civitavecchia. Rome Cabs also does shore excursions throughout Italy and some tours.

Stefano Rome Tours , http://www.stefanorometours.com/ was a natural progression of the owner's passion for his profession. He wanted to create private tours that could be customized and were not the generic "cookie cutter" tours that you see on every website. I can tell you that after all these years Stefano still surprises me with hidden gems that most people never hear about. I have such fond memories of him taking my then 14 year old son into the Ferrari showroom nine years ago in Rome. This was right in the middle of our tour, he stopped the car and instantly became my son's hero. You can't learn or fake that kind of enthusiasm and drive to engage your clients, you are either born with it or you are not.

I can't recommend either company enough and am anxiously counting the days until I have my next Stefano Rome Tour - 30 days to be exact :)

  12. We were on the 5/29 sailing on the Adonia to Cuba.

We were in balcony cabin A28

The ship itself is a nice size, a welcome break from all the mega liners I have sailed in the past.

It is an older vessel so it is important to adjust your expectations. Personally I thought it was poetic traveling in a ship with what looked like copper banisters and lounges and libraries with fireplaces, classic elegance of days gone by, to a destination that in many ways time forgot.

The ship is rough around the edges in some areas and I believe the refurbishment is an ongoing process.

My balcony cabin was quite spacious, no complaints there except for the old fashion wall mount hairdryer, for the premium price they really should provide a better unit.

On deck seven they have complementary washer and dryers which I thought was a nice touch- no soap machines though.

The wait staff all came over from P&O and were top of the line, very friendly and always looking to please.

We had an issue where we briefly lost power when leaving Miami. Two hours later the coast guard called us back for an inspection and that resulted in us not departing until 3am. This threw off our schedule putting our arrival in Havana off until Tuesday and eliminating our call in Cienfuegos -very disappointing but the situation was out of our control so there is no sense complaining about it.

Prior to the trip I had already self certified my husband and myself so that we could travel around independently if we wished. When I went to do our Fathom affidavit they were now allowing people to do both thr Fathom people to people and self certify on one affidavit which I thought was a great idea.

Day one in Havana would have been the walking tour but it now was flipped to be the bus tour. We did Fathoms included tour. Parts of it were fascinating we went to Jose Fuster's house which is absolutely magnificent. Other parts I found boring but I attribute that tou our guide. For instance at the art museum he told us to meet him back in an hour and he proceeded to the coffee shop with the bus driver and I had no idea what I was looking at or the significance of it. I would have rather spent that hour out on the streets talking to people.

Other groups had different experiences some got to see some dancers, it was not consistent. Lunch for example- one group had lobster in an air conditioned building, another ate at a Palador with menu choices, we ate at a Palador- I think, but the food was just delivered.

Day two in Havana was the highlight of my trip. My husband and I decided we would skip their walking tour and do our own. Within a few minutes of leaving the ship I met a delightful young teacher named Jeffrey. I was asking him some questions and he was walking along with us answering. No formal tour was negotiated, we were just chatting and he was explains things to me (honestly) about the special period and also about the prevailing religion in the area (I had asked why I kept seeing people dressed from head to toe in white)

He took us places the tour never would have like to the old telephone company where there is a medallion in the lobby showing a map of Cuba and a map of Florida and a bridge between the two they thought would have been built in the 1960's seeing that gave me chills. He even took us to his own apartment, so tiny, that he shares with his mom- a teacher makes just 20 CUCs a MONTH!

I could go on and on about this perfect day and if anyone wants his contact info feel free to email me. We took him to lunch and parted ways at 1:30 as it was the last week of classes and he teaches afternoon. We gave him the equivalent of two months salary which he didn't want to accept, honesty it was not near enough for the day he gave us.

We then had a sea day, there is not much to do other than Spanish class, cocktail class and dance class- they do need to work on that. We did enjoy the pool and the gorgeous library but a lot of people were saying they were bored.

The following day was Santiago de Cuba, again we headed out on our own. The guy we met took us to a lot of interesting places and even to his friends home to have lunch prepared for us. It was not the same deep experience as with Jeffrey though. Our friends on the ship that did the Fathom included tour raved about it so I think when I return I will do that as well.

We did eat in the specialty restaurant one night, my husband had goat which he thought was amazing, I am not as adventurous so I had steak which was very good. The food in general was excellent in my opinion.

    Any questions ask away

  13. You can't go wrong with Rome cabs! The drivers are always nicely dressed and polite. Always early never late. The drive safely not like an insane cabbie I once had in Rome. Stefano will customize tours for you and if you book multiple days/tours /transfers he can bundle.

When I come to Italy each year it is not just using some touring company it is seeing family.

You can't go wrong with Rome Cabs!

  14. I am sorry to hear about your son. I am sure it was frightening to have him get so ill suddenly. I was thinking about the quarantine of him and wondered if you had trip insurance? If you did I believe you can file a trip interruption claim for the time he was quarantined. It won't replace the part of your vacation he missed out on but at least you could get some of the money back.

  15. We had an aft facing penthouse on the Star especially for the trip from Helsinki to Stockholm and Stockholm to Copenhagen through the archipelago, those are the days to get the Butler to serve dinner on the balcony. It was a fabulous cruise, you can check out our pictures at www,flickr.com/photomagickpyggie/sets and select the Star cruise. Enjoy the cruise.

I would love to see your photos but the link says file not found

  16. We sail from Copenhagen on the Star on July 14. Heading over early staying at 71 Nyhaven. Post cruise I have us two nights Berlin followed by two nights Munich. If you have anything you want me to check out let me know and I will try my best to accommodate. We are in an aft facing Penthouse Suite. Definitely looking forward to a few meals on that huge veranda!

you can email them with any questions prior to filling out the booking form.

Well it must be the prices in May are lower than July as the quoted me $1050dkk ($158usd) which is basically what the other company did (1080dkk) so I guess I will stick with my original booking and the other company was sending an S class. . Thanks for the info anyhow
