  1. On February 7th we are doing the tour of the ship while it is at port in San Francisco. Our travel agent will meet us there and give us a tour of the ship since my husband and I and our friends haven't cruised on Princess before. Anyone have any experience participating in these "tours"? Any reviews or advice on what to look for?

    TIA

Is this strictly a ship's tour or are you having lunch on board?

The reason I ask is that a tour with lunch is called a "Bon Voyage Experience" and comes with a $39 price tag and requires prescreening/booking, etc. We have a friend and relatives who will be boarding with us for this event when we sail. We've even done it ourselves a couple of times. Great fun!

  2. On both ships in October, only the featured drink of the day was available for $5 in the E/P/S lounge. That was new to me and assumed it was a fleet wide decision. In November, it was any of the 7 featured cocktails on any day.

In October when I sailed on the Island, it was as you said....any of the 7 featured cocktails on any day. I sure hope that continues..... :)

  3. Yes, the Golden has the uncomfortable stuff now. I was on the Baja deck recently, and saw that neighbors had dragged the two upholstered chairs from inside their cabin onto their balcony. I just used rolled up towels, which helped a little.

You will enjoy the space on your Caribe balcony, in any case!

I've dragged out furniture too, but lately, if we aren't flying in, we've brought along patio furniture pads (inexpensive if purchased at Walmart) and then just left them on board. Better than the alternative.

  4. i'll be on her in a little over a month! its been a really long wait for someone to go one her and I'm looking forward to a review...if none are forthcoming, I will have to do my own!

Oh, please do! We accompanied her to her new home in Asia and sadly bid her goodbye. I hope she returns at some time as we have many wonderful memories......

  5. It has been awhile since we used the coffee card but hubby definitely wants one next time. Are they still punch cards? And if there are punches left can they be used on another cruise?

If punches are left, you can use them for the specialty coffees. You cannot enjoy the privilege of unlimited regular coffee. That was only for the original cruise. Enjoy!

  6. My next cruise will be my last as Platinum and I look forward to Elite.

Anyone remember glass cocktail glasses that you kept?

I remember on Sitmar cruises EVERYONE received an etched lead crystal glass and a free photo with the captain at the repeat cruiser's party.

Ah yes! The Good Ol' Days!....... We have a set! :)

  7. See post #13. That is the only ship at the moment. The vast majority of them use quarters, as the ship does that the OP will be on.

The Sapphire uses tokens. Alas, now that she is in Asia, I guess the question becomes moot for most of us.....

  8.

You'd think I'd get a free upgrade on this cruise since it's empty, but nope. Totally amazes me. Last I checked, there were tons of open balconies then all of a sudden, they were all gone. I figured I was moved up. Nope. The rep. I was talking to about 2 wks. ago was so sure I'd get an upgrade that it made me hope. I should've known better.

When are you sailing on the Sapphire? My sister and I are boarding next Thursday for the trans-Pacific cruise to Osaka.....are you joining us? You haven't joined Roll Call yet.....:D

  9. We are booked on the April 3rd, 25 days Sapphire Princess Cruise from Los Angles to Osaka, Japan. We will stay & join a land tour in Japan for 12 days before coming home on Celebrity Millennium.

We will be staying in a hotel near Kansai Airport ( in the city of Izumisano ), and are wondering anyone knows if there is limousine bus available at the pier that will take us to our destination. Thanks

    Steve

We are on the LA-Osaka cruise too! You haven't signed up for the Meet & Greet yet....do sign in on our Roll Call site. We expect over 100 cruisers to attend!

  10. I took my first Sitmar cruise 40 years ago this summer. I loved the service and the food, but having to go the a small area to use curling irons wasn't too convenient.

We still run into former Sitmar employees from time to time, but most of them have retired by now. Francesco who was the beverage manager on deck on the Ruby a few years ago was my waiter in 1975.

I sailed on Sitmar in the 70's too! Was helpful in attaining my much maligned elite status (haha). The "small area" where we used curling irons and hair dryers was the laundry room. :D

  11. Hi Amelia,

The Sapphire has become my second home and we will miss it too.

We were on for two cruises in Dec (22 days)and one 3 day earlier this month.

    Have fun.

Hi San Diego Sue! My sister and I are delivering the Sapphire to her new home....we sail on April 3rd, LA to Osaka! Will spend a couple of days in Japan before returning. You and Lew should come along! :D

  12. Just off the Sapphire with Tricia. Tricia do you remember the thongs on the outrigger in Bora Bora? WooHoo! Sorry off topic. Anyway we were on Lido deck and they installed the unfilled dispensers the first week we were on board. By the third week they were still empty and one day we returned and the only thing that was there was the holder…they had taken the bottles. I thought perhaps they were being filled and would show up but after 28 days they never made there debut. We had to be careful not to hit the holder when we were in the shower.

Haha... (Still off topic). Do I remember the thongs??? YES! And

    I have a great picture! :-). Tricia

  13. Me too - won't use their shampoo - it's horrible on my hair. But, my sons and DH like the bottles of just shampoo, no conditioner.

Does anyone know what the Sapphire has now? Dispenser or bottles?

Hi, we disembarked the Sapphire on November 16. Had individual bottles and most of the Elite amenities.

  14. The new rock-hard chairs on the balconies on my last few cruises have been so uncomfortable, unrelaxing and for me, so unusable that I decided a few months ago to not book balcony cabins in the future.

Pam, could you possibly estimate the width of the new and improved (haha) balcony chairs? I'm sailing 28 days on Sapphire on Caribe . We are contemplating taking cushions to mitigate the discomfort of the chairs. I sailed earlier with the new chairs and was extremely uncomfortable, but didn't think to measure them. I'm thinking about 18inches? Thanks!

    Tricia

P.S. I agree with you 100%. We loved the older chairs and lounges and were greatly disappointed when they were replaced. I'm wondering if Princess ordered the newer, narrrower chairs in anticipation of the new/narrower balconies??? :(
