Sure, spread them out over several days.  We typically do a bag every 2-3.  I've never run out of 'eligibility'.  Here's a tip.  Never do a bag on the last full day of the cruise.  That's simply too late to get turnaround before you disembark.

    Thanks for the tip! 🙂

I'm not sure how I would react if they did a switcheroo on me without my knowledge or permission. How was someone even allowed to board the ship if the room on their boarding pass was given to someone else? That seems like a big "whoops" to me.

I would probably invoke the "24 hour great vacation guarantee" if it were me frankly.

But like you said this has been over for weeks. Nothing to be gained by continuing to get upset by it.

I wish I had known that existed!! I was mad enough at the time that I probably would have invoked it!

That’s what I could get over - how they even let us on board without a room, the room switch was annoying but I figured probably allowable in the fine print, but not having a room for us at all seemed like something that should have been flagged somewhere.

Anyway, thanks for making me feel like I’m not totally unreasonable for being annoyed by it all.

    Understand the frustration.

You sailed a few weeks ago.

You're still stewing. Why?   What part of your life is being improved by still stewing on something from 3 weeks ago?  What tangible thing could possibly happen in the next 30 minutes that would cure everything and make you stop stewing?

Guess I’m just embarrassed that I brought new cruisers on board and this was their experience! But also, I realized that there was the possibility that I was being a jerk si I guess I have my answer 🤣

  4. We sailed a few weeks ago on the Horizon - originally booked 3 interiors in a row, upgraded to 3 balcony cabins in a row - for ease of discussion, I’ll call them cabins 1, 2, 3.

When we printed out our boarding passes they were for cabins 2, 3, 4 which we didn’t notice cause they were all in a row still.

When we got on board, cabins 2 & 3 had keys, nothing for cabin 4. Figured there was a delay, went to get lunch.

Went back after lunch and found the cabin steward, who was confused cause there was another party in both cabins 1 and 4 - and she had us in cabins 1, 2, 3. Told us the people in cabin 1 (which is the one we had booked) had decided to do a B2B and wanted to stay in the same cabin.

Stood in line for over an hour at guest services, found out that the people in cabin 4 had been offered a new cabin on other deck so we could still have 3 in a row, but had declined and somehow the process just stopped there - no other cabin had been assigned to our party.

Apparently someone in cabin 5 no showed so they gave us that room and offered our a complimentary dinner at a specialty restaurant - we said “Thanks for the dinner, that makes up for the several hours we lost today trying to sort this out, but it is not sufficient compensation for not giving us the three cabins in a row we booked.” Hours of further struggles with guest services ensued but eventually the people in the missing cabin got a spa credit.

The whole thing left a very sour taste in my mouth and I’ve been stewing on it and trying to sort out whether I’m being a jerk to be mad.

Has this happened to anyone else? How was it resolved?

  5. Booked the free (for the first two passengers/reduced for the third passenger) air promo for our Epic cruise out of Barcelona - every time I searched I couldn't find airfare that was even remotely close.

The "placeholder" flights changed significantly over time - first they were connecting flights on United (EWR-FRA-BCN and then the same back), then they were direct flights on Norwegian (though the times were HORRIBLE) and then 58 days out I got the notification that they flights were ticketed: direct flights on United from EWR-BCN! We deviated one day before the cruise so that we could have some time to explore Barcelona.

We were a bit worried when we had the terrible Norwegian flight times (the flight there would have landed around noon so we'd miss alot of our exploring time and the flight back landed in EWR at 9pm so we wouldn't be able to get home that night) but we still would have saved a ton of money and it would have been worth it - but we're ecstatic about the flights we got! And I had priced those flights out multiple times and we saved a TON of money over booking it on our own!

  6. I received an email last week saying that "during the upgrade there were inadvertent changes made to my booking that incorrectly triggered a refund (mostly around air).  We are in the process of rectifying the booking and recharging your credit card for the discrepancy."

I immediately checked my credit card statement and lo and behold, they had refunded a large chunk of money - though my booking still says paid in full.  They haven't recharged my credit card yet, but I am hoping they do, rather than cancel my booking!!

We are using the perk for international flights for our Mediterranean cruise in September.

$399rt/person: Newark, NJ to Barcelona nonstop on United Airlines, depart Friday night, arrive Saturday morning, nonstop return leaving late morning and back same day by 2pm Newark time. We took a one day deviation on the front end of our trip, but will return on the final day of the cruise and have the transfer for that trip. Since we deviated the NCL transfer is not available for our arrival.

I have status on United so when I called to add our FF information they let me select seats in Economy Plus which provides additional leg room and recline, otherwise it is simply an economy seat/section ticket.

On our myncl.com account several different routes were shown before final ticketing. The other two each had one connection, exactly the max NCL indicates they aim to book. Since they were never booked I didn't get to see flight times, but one was with a United partner and the other with an American partner/American.

I feel great about the value, service and flights we have through this perk and would use it again.

Last week we decided to book our hotel in the tourist area rather than the business district we had reserved. I ended up selecting the same hotel NCL uses, HCC Montblanc, through a points deal with my credit card. I figured if NCL was putting it's guests there the hotel must be pretty good. I anticipate good service as they'll want to treat NCL's passengers well.

How were you able to see the routes before booking? I am also using their "reduced air" for travel from EWR to BCN and curious but can't seem to find anything (but maybe I am looking in the wrong place)...

In the summary I can see cities (with a connection in Frankfurt but it has been that way since we booked the cruise and I know the flights aren't booked yet) but not partners... of course, a connection in Frankfurt means Lufthansa or United but just curious where I can find more details...

  8. Apologies in advance - I am sure this is answered somewhere but I am struggling with the search function on this forum...

Is there any benefit to booking Carnival excursions in advance? I am used to booking my own, but for a variety of reasons, we'll be going through Carnival on our upcoming vacation?

Just wondering if there is any benefit to booking in advance or if we should wait til we're on board to use our OBC.

    Thanks so much!

    Paula

  9. I suspect that the comments reference the cabin etc was due to the OP being a bit upset that there was a problem...not a great way to start a cruise but now there is time to relax and enjpy and get accustomed to the environment. Would love to know how much OBC was given

In Europe the school summer holidays have started - expect kids.

We've been having a great time! Certainly don't find our cabin to be sub-par! The first night/morning was a bit frustrating but we were happy to get underway and appreciated the OBC (it was $200 per stateroom plus an additional $50 for 3rd/4th guests)

Sad to have missed Messina but since we left, it's been smooth sailing and we just enjoyed a wonderful day in Athens!

And as for 2 sail away parties (which someone else asked about), I didn't even notice one! But maybe I wasn't paying attention!

And they did allow guests off the boat the first night and on our second day at Civitavecchia, just had to be back on board by 1:30pm!

  10. We just got a flyer in the stateroom telling us they're still planning on a mid-afternoon departure today and offering an onboard credit as a "gesture of goodwill and to thank you for your understanding"

And as I was typing the captain just announced that the mechanical issue has been fixed and we'll be departing shortly! Yay!!

  11. So, on previous cruises I've missed ports because of weather, etc. but we actually haven't departed...

Embarkation was yesterday and there's something wrong with the ship, so 24 hours later we're still sitting here :(

Missed our first port (Messina) - hoping we actually get underway today (haven't heard any updates since last night)...

Has this happened to anyone before? Hoping we don't spend our entire "cruise" staring at cargo boxes at the Civitavecchia dock!!
