Not at all. You walk through the mall. To the right of the front desk is a small escalator that takes you to an indoor bridge that takes you over the tracks...and to building 2 and 3. From there there's an escalator going down. Once down the mall entrance is to your right.
Walk through the mall. Get to the food court. You'll see the ship outside. Now I've never cruised NCL out of there before. But I know right there in the food court is an elevator that takes you down to the port. But also outside of the food court is a ramp to the ship. I don't know how they handle that if the lower area is flooded. But either way you should be able to get down there warm and dry by walking the mall.
Awesome! Thank you so much!!

If it were me and it's after the cruise I would probably just uber/lyft to a french quarter area hotel. But if you want to avoid that I would probably go for Hilton Riverside where you could take the riverfront streetcar. But really you can probably get a French Quarter hotel and pay for the uber cheaper than the room at Hilton Riverside.
We’re staying at the Hilton riverside before the cruise this Saturday night but they’re calling for possible flooding. Is that going to interfere with us walking to the Norwegian port?

Did the sloth/monkey place feel like a sanctuary or more like a zoo? My daughter doesn’t know if she wants to do it because she’s concerned about the welfare of the animals.

As a side note: if you happen to be there around Christmas you must walk through the lobby of the Hilton Roosevelt Hotel, it's amazing. We stayed there last year for a couple of nights between Christmas and NYE.
We will be there on Christmas eve/christmas Day. Do you know if things will be closed on Christmas Eve? Will we have trouble getting transportation either of those days (cab/uber/streetcar)?

I'm staying at the Hilton Riverside after my cruise at the end of October. It is supposed to be walkable from the port via the indoor Riverside Mall. I can update after my cruise but it appears to have a good location to the port, French Quarter, Bourbon Street and the other sites that is all within a reasonable walking distance.
I have that booked for the night before our cruise. I have read that it's a good place to stay for getting on the ship (within walking distance). We get in the evening before, so won't be doing too much sightseeing. But I wanted something centrally located to sightseeing for after, since we'll have the whole day. Or at least near a streetcar stop. But please let me know what you think when you get back!

Staying a day after our cruise. I can’t decide which area is best to stay in-
1. Close to port so cab ride won’t be much. Then take streetcar for sightseeing
2. in between port & French quarter
3. In French quarter. Cab from port may be more expensive but more convenient to sights and restaurants.
also will have luggage so need to be able to have a hotel that will store luggage for us

Not sure on the street car. That station has been closed since before Covid due to construction. I know that’s over so maybe it’s open now. But I personally haven’t seen a bunch of luggage on street cars so I don’t know if it’s allowed or not. But the convention center/warehouse district hotels are a great option and usually you can get one at a good price. This is where you’re going to collect your luggage in relation to the hotels. There’s also a Marriott on this side of the Hyatt place that isn’t showing up for some reason.I checked the streetcar route and you’re right. It doesn’t look like that station is open anymore. It looks like the closest station is on the other side of the Hilton riverside. Unfortunately that hotel is running a little high for my dates. And it’s not coming up on Hotwire. I did book that for the night before my cruise though on your recommendation! I got a great rate through Hotwire!

Awesome! That’s not too bad of a walk at all!

Or do cabs go that short of a distance? Otherwise thinking of staying at the intercontinental

Are you able to take the street car from the ncl cruise port with luggage to your hotel? If not is the Hilton garden inn walkable with luggage from the port? Or Hyatt place? If not how do you get there? Do cabs or Ubers go that short of a distance?

Yes! It was not crowded at all, but it was kind of a cloudy day, and there were only 3 ships in port that day. We sat on the beach (not on a chair) and nobody said a word to us about spending anything on food or drinks. We didn't go in the pool, though. There was nobody in the pool, but it was very nice! There was construction noise, but was barely noticeable down on the beach. Food looked expensive, but they did have a sorbet cart which was very reasonable up by the pool. We just took the bus there. Very easy!
-
Thank you! I am three days away! Hope you had a great cruise!
Us too! Can't wait!
-
No, there are 2 large pools!
The day we were there, 3 jet skis were available for rental.
7 mile beach is the best beach in Grand Cayman.
There are other small beach areas that don't offer the facilities that 7 mile beach does.
Awesome! Yeah I just realized that it’s actually part of SMB. We’re going next week so hopefully they at least stay open that long!! Any pictures?

Do you have any pics of Hemmingway's? And was 15-20 pple in the pool crowded? Looking for somewhere not as crowded as seven mile beach, but still has facilities. Any watersports or rentals there?

Sure! After spending 11 nights on the Vista chasing Hurricane Irma last September in 6 in January I have a few tips!
Dining:
Breakfast - There is a little known breakfast buffet 5 aft serving continental as well as eggs and bacon. Most people don't know about it so its not crowded
Lunch - Serenity deck has a great salad bar on port day and sea day that is really great including shrimp! BBQ is awesome on 5 but go early, it gets early and isn't open every day. First sea day there is a cooking class around noon that is so awesome for sampling food from the steak house. So much food we didn't eat lunch
Dinner - anytime dining is super easy on the Vista. You check in on 5 next to the coffee shop and they give you a slip you bring down to 3 Aft. We never waited.
Italian - Cucina - well worth the $15. If you go the first night you get a cheap bottle of table wine for your table for free. We did the steak house on the first cruise which was great but so much food and so long to sit we just preferred the dining room
Entertainment
Matt Mitchum is hands down the best cruise director I have ever seen. He is so present around the ship and funny! His morning show and marriage show are great. Please try and go to military appreciation event last sea day around 10. It is very cool. White night is fun and the Havanna Bar is a cool venue - you can go out by the pool after 7.
I can answer any questions too!
I’m so excited! It looks like Matt Mitchum will be our cd in June! I always thought a funny cd made the cruise! Did you happen to save any fun times from your cruise?
-
Does this mean early and late dining aren’t even offered on the vista anymore? When we booked a few weeks ago for June ATD was all that was available. Couldn’t even waitlist. We always enjoyed sitting with the same people every night.
-
Yes it does. It was showed sold out for our March cruise for a very long time but it opened up again for a few days last week.
Awesome! So there’s still hope! We sail in June.

Shore Excusion FAQ
https://help.carnival.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2866/~/shore-excursion-faqs
Do I have to book a shore excursion through Carnival or can I go off on my own?
You are not obligated to book shore excursions through Carnival in order to leave the ship. Public transportation is available at each port. We suggest you visit your local library, bookstore or a pertinent website to determine where you would like to go.
Carnival does not offer any alternatives from the established shore excursion program. All shore excursions sold through Carnival are coordinated with reputable tour operators and include all of the most popular sites of interest.
One of the many benefits of booking excursions through Carnival is a guarantee that the ship will remain in port until all guests are back onboard. Carnival will not be aware of shore excursions that are booked independently. Also, keep in mind that some ports have visa requirements that may prevent you from venturing off on your own.
Thank you!!!

I just found out about this and looked at my sailing and it's sold out:mad: Does it ever open back up once it's sold out?
-
did you hear any noise from the IMAX theater?
quote=zorky12;55116773]First off my wife and I took our first cruise this week. It was fantastic. Matt (cruise director) was amazing to watch and listen to. Also the staff works extremely hard 24/7. Earnesto our room steward was fantastic as well. I think he may have been living under our bed because anytime we seemed to leave the room for a short while we come back and its fully been cleaned and serviced.
We stayed in room #9298 which is a balconY.

Carnival claims that if you find a lower price on excursions they will refund 110% of the difference as on board credit. Important thing to remember is that if you book with Carnival the ship can not leave without you if there were to be a breakdown or something causing you to get back late. This did happen on our trip to some people in Cozumel. Their boat was 30 minutes past the leave port time when it arrived back in Cozumel and the ship waited and the people were not rushed or in need of running.
Really? I didn't know that. I usually book them independently from carnival, but I'm always worried about that. Can you tell me where to find that info? I'm sure there is some fine print.

I'm not trying to hijack, but since you just sailed, I wondered what you thought of the legends show. I've heard mixed reviews. Also, do you know if kids were allowed at the White Hot party?
