  1. Have just tried an Insurance Comparison Web site - out of interest as we are, at the moment, happy with our insurance, to be told that no company will offer us an annual policy because of our age and pre existing conditions. We are 67 & 66 with relatively minor conditions. We made a claim this year as my mother had to have major surgery, she wasn’t on the policy. Within reason I am happy to pay for insurance for my peace of mind but am wondering when the price will out do the fare!! I am also curious as to how a fair few of the oassengers get insurance when you listen to them talking about their ills.

One of the question I was asked when I made the claim was had I taken out insurance at the time of booking? We have an annual policy so all was fine but the reason we have the annual policy is that insurance companies seem unwilling to quote for holidays that are more than 12 months ahead. Am I missing something?

  2. We too are booked on this cruise and I have been watching the price which has gone up and down but has as yet not gone lower than when we booked it in August 2015. So perhaps this once we have been wise to book early. Out of interest, well to us anyway, J 613 has also increased in price considerably since we booked last August. I have no idea why but I am pleased that we were able to book ahead.

Hope that you make it on board

  3. Hi

Booked a Strictly Cruise last year - my husband, son in law and granson hate the programme but mum, daughter and other granson love it while I am neutral. The cruise was at the right time and length so hence the booking. We all enjoyed the cruise, as we always do and there was plenty for the 'Strictly haters'. There were shows, talks, demonstrations and displays but there was always at least 1 alternative. I hated the displays - the dresses were so tiny especially the waists but that can be put down to jealousy.

As you can see we are 4 generations and cruising suits us perfectly we all do our own thing well that's the theory but we spend a great deal of time together.

We have only ever cruised P&O so can't comment on the differences but as others have said some things will be better and some worse

The Children's Clubs are in my opinion excellent and well run by Qualified staff. For the little ones they have to be signed in and out by a responsible authorised adult-thought that would let me out but no such luck. The only disadvvantage for you, if indeed it is one, is that only 2 year olds and above can be left in the clubs, the younger ones have play facilities but have to have parents or the responsible adult with them.

In my exoerience the waiters etc love children and they seem to get better treatment than the adults - only joking.

We have always taken our children to eat with us although grandpa and dad are happy to do Children's Tea and on the whole they are welcome in the dinning rooms - well there are always the odd few who disapprove but that's their problem!

Hope that you have a great time. Oh one other thing I always do the arranging and as you say it is a big responsibility but as I get older I just say ' If you don't like it do it yourself

This year husband and I are cruising by ourselves now that will be steange

  4. We too travel down on the day and leave home in plenty of time. Our last 2 cruises had check in times of 3:30 - a little too close to departure time for comfort.

The problem with arriving in Southampton and filling the time between arrival and embarkation is that you have a car full of luggage which we would be reluctant to leave in a car park.

For years P&O have given embarkation times and we have ignored them. So why now? After all we waited until 2:00 before boarding in the days before lunch was available on board so if we have to wait so be it.

One question - what happens if you are, as part of the loyalty scheme, if you are entitled to the special lunch on board.

Who decides when you can get on L have met people from Southampton who have very early times?
