  1. Question is, where does the lability go ? and sooner or latter the ship is going to have to hook up to shore power and hopefully the replaced boards etc. to function correctly. Ok I feel better now my fil,mil and gmil who is 96 on board with wheel chair and breathing assist set-up will be just fine. Recharging the batteries will be fine right and no more fil getting stuck in the elevator when the system got fried. I have faith. Even if they don't offer a free lobster for the inconveniences. Since they are all platinum level right.

  2. Thanks all of you on board and others with a good explanation and very detailed. My father in law is on board and notified me he was stuck in the elevator during the outage. With back up batteries why did that not work. And how will the electrical damage going to effect the safety and security while underway to NY. ??:confused::confused:

  3. To those who were not on the cruise during the power outage, remember, ship happens So we missed some time in a port, missed an excursion. Big deal, I,d rather be safe and sure all onboard. Sometimes things happen, and the biggie, the cruise contract does not guarantee you will make any port on time. Just another reason to take another cruise to see what we missed. They really don’t owe us anything.

FIL Keith Top Princess rated, after the issues i.e.. room confinement count, stuck in the elevator, missed his most important stop. Ship happens and they don't owe him ship right ? Princess is sure showing confidence system won't fail while underway to New York. Great !! I feel better as a Platinum member now. Ship Happens right?

  4. Also onboard. Here’s an account of what happened that I wrote for my FaceBook Page:

The port of Kristiensand installed a new land power generator to provide electricity to ships at the pier. The Regal Princess was the first ship to use the system, cutting off it’s engines and onboard generators and switching to “shore power.” A ship of this size consumes a LOT of power. This was supposed to be a big “fuel saver” and the city even had a dockside presentation for the ship’s staff to celebrate this momentous occasion. You guessed it! At about 1:00pm the shore power system failed plunging the ship into darkness (except for emergency lighting). The ship’s generators were fired up and power switched back on within about 15 minutes. But not before finding that the failure had “fried” the ship’s servers that control the “Hotel” division of the ship ... passenger services, restaurants, the TV systems and the internet were all now offline and not available to passengers or staff. Usually, when you come back from port, you simply scan your cruise card and the ship’s personnel know you’re onboard. With the servers down, that wasn’t working and we had to go to a back-up manual system. The ship could not leave port until everyone was accounted for. First the ship’s 1,200 staff had to go to their muster stations to be physically counted “present.” Then, an announcement was made for all 3,500 passengers to return to their cabins and stay there until room stewards “swept the ship” checking every cabin and all passengers had been accounted for. It was then safe to sail, even though the servers had not been restored. We left port several hours late meaning that we missed high-tide and now couldn’t sail through the planned passages. We’d need to take the longer route around and would now be forced to arrive late in the port of Greenock (for Glasgow). The captain was great during the entire process keeping us well informed of progress. We were assured that both ship IT folks and land-based IT people are working to get services back. Internet was working after about 12 hours and the TV came back about 24 hours later.

l think that's a biggie to me. And extra lobsters for inconvenience is not a bad gesture . And would not be considered free for nothing. My father in law got stuck in the Elevator, yes that would piss me off. Then miss an important port tour to boot. Should of tested system before they blew out the putters and power.

  5. eclue, you obviously did not hear the same announcement Tuesday evening that our group of six did (or any of the other passengers that we talked to who all through a fog warning that would close the port for Friday - Sunday was a bit ridiculous). We heard that the fog was to roll in Friday evening and close the port Friday evening through Sunday, so we were going to try and make it back before the port closed Friday evening.

Plus, if fog was predicted only on Saturday evening, then why did we return early due to fog as it would not have affected us entering the port Saturday morning?

Well said. We thought the same logic out. They simply were trying to minimize the compensation. Underplay the Noro. get the ship back for the CDC request to investigate get time to get ready for next trip. People are smarter now with cell phones etc. communicate.

  6. Perhaps this is one reason, from CBS News:

"Princess has notified the CDC (about Noro), who will board Friday to oversee an “extensive sanitation of the ship” prior to the next cruise departing February 1."

By getting in early and dumping those folks early Friday, Princess created time for the CDC to conduct this extensive sanitation on that day. Had they arrived on Saturday as scheduled, that CDC supervised inspection and sanitation would have surely prevented the ship from sailing with its new batch of passengers on Saturday.

Thanks for telling the truth perfect. CNN had my dad on first off said I do not like a Capt. to lie to us and say 3 days from now we will have fog at 7:30 am Sat. therefore we have to depart beautiful weather withstand a rough 28 ft storm to return immediately to Houston because the going to close the Port down. We new at 8:36 the announcement at dinner was a lie. I was telling my father in law how important and why we booked the cruise to visit Belize. I will Cont. if you want.

  7. Yes, this evening's fog was correctly predicted days in advance. However, Friday night's lack of fog was incorrectly predicted. I still maintain that making itinerary changes based on foretasted weather is ridiculous.

If the cruise ships begin to routinely base their itinerary changes on predicted weather events, then I expect to see a increase in unhappy passengers.

They predicted the harbor to be shut down for three days. Why didn't they tell everyone leaving on Saturday not to arrive until Sunday? After all, as of three days ago, the port was supposed to be closed.

And we certainly didn't arrive at 10pm on Thursday night because the harbor might have been closed on Friday evening. We could have had that last night and morning at sea. But when all is said and done, our cruise was cut short for Noro. Not for fog. I enjoy my sea days and evening as much as I enjoy my port, and I lost even that for something that never happened. Ah, but at least the true main objective of cleaning the ship was achieved, so I guess it was worth it.

I like that. Very in perspective to what we went through.

  8. My father in law said it right. Keith Davis of Austin questioned the fog story.

"That's last Tuesday they tell us this, and they've never said anything different," he told KHOU. "I knew then nobody can predict five days in advance. I knew that that wasn't the case. They were just doing that to minimize their damages."

The truth goes on but you do not want to hear :-) got recordings and you tubes.

    Is there fog yet??

  9. We were off the boat yesterday AM 7:30. So it is known for the record, we did return early due to the Noro Virus and CDC needed to inspect and coordinate sanitizing. So for those still with heads in clouds we were lied to about the Fog. go pull up the Web Cam now. I do not trust a lying Capt. and did not sit well with family aboard. http://www.cnn.com/2014/01/31/travel/houston-princess-cruises-norovirus-illness/index.html?iref=allsearch

  11. My wife and I went on our first cruise over 12 yrs ago on the Carnival Holiday. It was your typical Party Booze Cruise out of San Pedro Los Angeles except for the fact it was Halloween. Most everyone was dressed up in costumes and all seemed to be having a pretty fun time. We were in the Casino playing Blackjack with one of the piano players from the talent show that night and decided to go to the small lounge next door that had a piano not being used, and have him play a few songs for us. The ship was still pretty heavy with the party hum , people coming and going through this lounge even at 130 am. Two very attractive girls came by dressed in these wild Domi matrix (sp) outfits totally equiped with hats and wips. Being a bit currious I start chatting with them about the creative get up they were wearing. They about floored me when they told me they were the real macoy! I told my wife and a few gathered around the piano player singing away what they told me. My DW laughed so hard and said for me to test the whips out on me and see if they were. OhhhK so I go along with the deal as they all are daring me now to ask em. I do it, and yes they were real. My sore butt could testify. We had the group now building up with a bunch of guys coming out of the casino to see whats going on and all the laughter and rucious. I told all the guys to line up and get smacked as these girls were the real deal. They all started doing it. The party crowd got so big and crowded that the wives in the Casino came out to see what was going on and started getting mad at their Husbands and Boyfriends. About 20 min. latter security came up and made us all go to our cabin ending a very unusual but hilarious Halloween Party that we still laugh about today.
