  1. The only time we have had one was on the Triumph a few years ago and we loved it!! Even though it was just a 4-day cruise to Cozumel it is still at the very top of the best cruises we have been on and largely due to that balcony. It was the most relaxing cruise yet as it seemed like we had the ship to ourselves. It was so quiet and due to the balcony being so big we couldn't see our neighbors. One night as we were laying under the stars listening to the ocean's wake and looking at the stars my husband said...it feels like we are on our own yacht! That is exactly what it felt like to us. We have finally been able to score another one on the Valor for May 11th to Cozumel and my husband surprised me with the Vista Suite (aft-wrap) on the Legend to Alaska in July 2018 for our 10th wedding anniversary. I can hardly wait!! Keep the cabin believe me it will be worth it.

  2. My daughter has been going to Camp Carnival since she was 3 years old. She was 5 and in Kinder this past May when we went and she loved it. They are with the small ones but, they do things for the 4 and 5 year olds also. I don't think you have anything to worry about. They had face painting, crafts, games, etc.:D

  3. All 5 of us are going over Thanksgiving and because I was able to get all 5 of us in one balcony cabin the cruise was only $1624.00 at the time I booked it. My kids are all small so fitting 5 of us at the moment is not so bad but, it is difficult to have 4 or more people in the same cabin. If you can all do it is cheap.:D

  4. We have a 6 assorted cabins booked for a cruise this winter, and my Mom has hinted now that she might consider going (was adamant before she did not want to go)

We currently have 3 people (kids) in an interior stateroom for a total price of $1602.00 (taxes in)

I am looking at adding my Mother into that room and when I do a mock booking for 4 people in the room (same everything) the price is $1738.00 (taxes in).

Does this mean that I can bring my mother on this cruise for a difference of only$136.00????

Breeze 6 day Western- Feb 7/16 interior midship Deck 6

Thanks in advance for your responses

Yes that is what it means...she will be the 4th person. Once you get to a 3rd person it gets cheaper by the person.

  5. My husband and I are sailing on Carnival Magic this fall with our 10-yr-old daughter. Everything I find about Camp Ocean shows little kids doing "baby" things. Does anyone have experience with an older kid going to Camp Carnival? Did he/she enjoy it?

My 9 and 10 year old LOVED Camp Ocean on the Magic when we went in May. They did a lot of cool things.

  6. I've sailed RCI, NCL, and MSC. I came back to Carnival each time and will likely not venture away again. Carnival has a good product at a good price. That combo is hard to beat, especially these days. In addition, in my experiences, Carnival has by far the friendliest, most smiling staff. That is huge in my estimation. Carnival doesn't have the largest ships, or the ships with the most bells and whistles. What they do have, as I've already mentioned is the best cruise experience for the money. Many, including myself, don't need ice skating rinks, cavernous mall like interiors, or other bells and whistles to enjoy a cruise. I go for the ocean, the islands, and quality time with my wife. Anything else is just icing on the cake. Even if the three other cruise lines I mentioned were to start matching Carnivals prices on a regular basis, I'd stick with the proven commodity, Carnival.

I totally agree with you. We went on NCL one time and went right back to Carnival and have never ventured out again. Maybe one day we will but, not anytime soon. We don't need the huge ships. My favorite ship to date is the Magic. I love the size and that it has just enough for everyone to keep everyone busy...including my kids. It is not too big though so we can go outside anywhere on that ship and get fresh air and hear the waves hit the ship. We go for the ocean, island and time with family. Why pay for all the bells and whistles when we wouldn't even use them. If you want the bells and whistles then by all means go on another cruise line. There are a lot of people that don't want or need that. Having the biggest ship is not always better in my opinion.

  7. Thank you for taking the time to post a review and figure the pictures out. They were amazing pictures and you might have sold me on a couple of excursions in these places. We will definitely be doing Jack Shack for sure.:) WE go on the Carnival Vista on 12/03/16 to these exact places and I can't wait. Like you...this will be our first time to any of these islands and also Miami so we are really excited.

  8. My mom went on RCCL for the first time last December out of Galveston as she usually cruises on Carnival. 2 days in to the cruise she ends up with Noro and so does 157 other passengers! She was quarantined to her interior room for 3 days straight. No Thank You!!!! We have all been on numerous Carnival cruises and never gotten sick on any of them. We tried NCL for an Alaskan cruise and didn't care for it at all so back to Carnival.

I was in the elevator at the hotel last May the day we were to board the Magic in Galveston. A guy got on the elevator and had a RCCL lanyard on so, I nicely said that I see he is going on Royal today. He said yes I am diamond on Royal...are you going to be on board? I said...no, we are boarding the Magic today. He then got snotty and started talking bad about Carnival. The doors opened for me to get out and I turned around while I was exiting and smiled and said...people like you are the reason I won't get go on an RRCL cruise ship. You should have seen his face!!:eek:

That RCCL ship went to all of our ports that cruise. We had a family go with us on our excursion in Cozumel. She asked what ship we were on and we said the Magic. She said, can we hide in your bags and get on board with you? We are bored out of our minds and all those passengers on the Magic have been so happy and gitty this whole trip. Every time we pull up next to that ship we can hear y'all. My kids are killing me that we chose RCCL over the Magic. I guess they had such few kids on that ship during that cruise that they closed down some of the activities for the kids. Our kids were having a blast.

  9. We are taking our FIRST Carnival cruise in oct on the Glory. We were super excited to try a new line as we have only been on NCL. But seems all i read on the FB page and other review sites is negative feedback!! Is carnival really become that bad? It cost us alot in airfare to make these trips from Colorado and im kinda worried now...[emoji27]

I haven't read all the comments but, this is just my feeling.

We had sailed on Carnival a few times. We then decided to go on NCL...actually forced as it was a family cruise to Alaska and we weren't paying for it. We went and hated it. Loved Alaska but, hated NCL. I came back and cancelled my cruise on the Getaway that I booked prior to taking the cruise on NCL. I then turned around and booked Carnival immediately. I went on the NCL Jewel and I will not make that mistake again. That should tell you something. Is Carnival for everyone...no...but it is right for us.:D

  10. They'll still have the Liberty there as well (another Conquest class) so it looks like they will have two ships there unless they are pulling the Liberty out after only a year being there.

The Liberty is coming to Galveston in 2016. They will just have the Fascination in San Juan. I hope it is true that it is only for a few months. We just got back from a cruise on the Valor in November in San Juan. I for one will not pay to fly to San Juan from Texas just to get on the Fascination. I absolutely LOVED that cruise and was looking for a time to go back. I will wait on that one. Thank goodness Galveston is getting Freedom, Liberty and Breeze. That will keep us busy for a while since we have never been on those ships.

  11. Technically staying onboard would be 1/3 lower risk, but you do understand the ship docks right at the land and mosquitos don't need a s&s card to get onboard. You will be missing out on Roatan, my favorite Caribbean island, but it is your choice.

I personally think your fear is totally unfounded, but the risk is not zero anywhere you go in the Caribbean and the US of a mosquito born illness.

    I totally agree with you!

I think you are over thinking the mosquito illnesses. I have been to these islands and I didn't even see a mosquito at all (believe me if they were there they would have found me. I get eaten up here in South Texas during the summer). Just pick excursions that take you to the beach and not in the rainforest or jungle. If you do go on those excursions then put on insect repellant. It is not that hard to protect yourself.

We just got off the Valor on the Southern Carribean ports and they had the same warnings as all the islands in the Carribean do. You need to stop worrying so much. If you are going to stay on the ship in Roatan then don't go...that is the one island on this trip you will want to see. It is absolutely gorgeous. I hope you quit worrying so much. Just think of all the people that go there every week on a cruise. Have you ever heard of a Malaria outbreak from a cruise ship visiting Raotan???

  12. For a point of reference, I chose a high end and a low end time of the year for 2015 and chose the newest ships sailing in Florida from the major cruise lines as a point of comparison. All of these numbers are for a basic inside cabin without taxes.

    ..................................7/4/15.. 12/5/15

    DCL Fantasy............ 2107..... 1225

RCI Oasis of Seas.. 1159..... 659

    CCL Breeze (8 day). 989..... 559

    NCL Getaway........... 1159..... NA

    NCL Escape................ NA..... 699

    Regal Princess............ NA..... 599

    Celebrity Reflection NA..... 669

As you can see, at the high point of summer as well as the low point of between Thanksgiving and Christmas, you pay a hefty premium to sail on Disney.

I agree with you. I don't see or understand how anyone can say that prices are similar. I have tried for 3 years to cruise on DCL out of Galveston instead of CCL for my family of 5. We will only sail in a balcony cabin and due to there being 5 of us, on most ships we have to get 2 cabins. The last one I priced had DCL at close to $9800 for the 5 of us. CCL had us at $3800. It is like that every time I try to book or look to change cruise lines. My kids love the camps on CCL so CCL it is and we ALWAYS have a blast.

  13. For my DH it is either Khaki or Black Docker pants with a nice button up shirt and boots. I usually wear either a cocktail dress or a pair of dress capri's with a very nice blouse and cute black sandals. My girls usually wear their gaucho's with a nice shirt and black sandals.

There is no dressing fancy for this family. We look nice as we have taken our family pictures that night and they are hanging on our wall in our home. So nice enough for that but, not dressy by any means.

  14. I think my point was missed:

Yes, we may have had reported cases of the virus, but that doesn't mean that all things are equal. For example, by these standards, the U.S. "has ebola" but it's slightly different than the ebola outbreaks in West Africa. My guess is not a single person here would step foot in Liberia today, but would gladly travel and walk around NYC. Both "have ebola" but there is a difference in quantity. There have been reported cases of CHIKV in the U.S., but not at all near the quantity that are being reported daily in the islands.

This isn't ebola, but it's still a problem. One of the major problems with diseases in the "third world" is that the governments don't accurately report the numbers. Similar in a way to a CDC director that makes conflicting statements days apart. The more I've read about this epidemic, the more I've realized that the Jamaican authorities really are trying to contain the financial damage to Jamaica, not the actual disease. (here is one article that's worth reading, with some grains of salt added: http://jamaica-gleaner.com/gleaner/20140928/focus/focus3.html)

I imagine the cruise lines watch this sort of activity very closely, and correspond with organizations like the CDC and the nations that they travel to.

Your point wasn't missed at all. Use DEET and you will be ok. We were there also during the times when they had a lot of cases of this virus...I have an auto-immune disease also and I got off the ship with my whole family! We never even saw 1 mosquito. I see more mosquitos here in South Texas then I did there. That is my point...use insect repellant if you are worried and go have fun. It is a beautiful island.

We have tons of cases of West Nile virus here in South Texas and West Nile virus can kill you. That doesn't mean I don't go out side or let my kids play because they could be exposed to West Nile. We have it every year and it is getting worst you just have to be protected. I have read up on the new virus and it doesn't kill you. It can make you sick and your joints can hurt but, you get better after some time.

  15. We went to Jamaica in May and never even saw 1 mosquito. We also did a beach day excursion so we weren't in the jungle or parts of the rain forest. They are deterred by DEET so use insect repellant. We now have the disease in the US also so of course they won't stop going to islands that have it as we now have it here along with West Nile.

Out of all the islands our family of 5 absolutely loved Jamaica and I feel you are making a mistake if you don't get off the ship. Just my opinion though...I know others would argue that point.

For what is worth...I have an auto-immune disease also!!

  16. 11 - Splendor repo (since we fly to San Juan a day early, I can officially do the Single Digit Dance tomorrow!!!)

    39 - Freedom Premier Casino

367  - Splendor to Bermuda

OK, that's way too many days between Freedom and Splendor to Bermuda. Guess I'll just have to find something next spring to hold me over, right? :p

I'm with you on that one...12 and 391. Too much space...I am sure I will find another one in between those 2.
