For a relatively new cruiser, I'd go Liberty. Oasis class can be overwhelming and if you start with the biggest moving down later could be a disappointment. Freedom class ships are my favorite. You'll have a better experience with the crew...it's hard to get to know them on the bigger ships. There's plenty to do on Liberty.

Thank you so much for sharing! Heck we are just doing it lol ... she is going to be fine. I was just over thinking because we live in NYC and sometimes I feel that we live in this semi liberal bubble!! But we are vacationing to be together so that's all that matters! Thanks again to all of you who shared your experiences.

I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time. As a mama bear I know we always worry about our transgender babies. Be sure to share when you get back.

I'm the mom of two transgender adults. My daughter hasn't cruised post transition, but my agender child had no issues on Royal Caribbean Eastern Caribbean sailing. Please share how things go for your family.

I heard that Maya Chan has a neighbor that refuses to clean up its property and that it's trashy. I've also seen many reviews complaining of a sewerage smell in the area and the water.
Any truth? I also see that it has overwhelmingly positive reviews on TripAdvisor so I'm confused.
Loved maya chan. No bad smells. Great service!

The biggest thing you get is the welcome back party with free drinks.

I don't expect a major surgical unit, but do they offer medical care for various emergencies or even minor ailments?
How would they treat someone who suddenly felt faint, or dizzy? Or had chest pains?
I'm looking for personal experiences.
I had noro on a ship a couple years ago. The care was AMAZING! I was dehydrated and required an IV. They saw me 4 or 5 times over a couple days. Better care than I get on land.

So the wife and I are going to make the jump from gold to platinum this next cruise. I know for some of you out there thats not major since many are diamond or above. But is there anything we should be aware of since that is hapening during the cruise. Or does C&A take care of all that later with mailers hoping you book another cruise using what little sales they have for members?
A little background. The wife and I both worked for RCCL shore side for a number of years. Her in groups and me in loyalty. The program has changed so much since then. so im not even 100% shure what they do shipboard for passing milestones anymore.

You can get a robe delivered to your room for use during the cruise. Ask your cabin steward. You get two free pulls in the casino.

I've found that I need to reduce my free weights when I'm on the ship. I don't feel the movement but Gravity is gravity and a little shift can throw off my balance and put me in a precarious position. So I lower my weights and up my reps onboard.

There is an outfit called Active Island in St. Thomas. They do a nice running tour. I highly recommend it.

I usually book marathon recovery cruises, but I've done a few of those long runs onboard. I've also been known to do a ten miler on the treadmill before sail away. We did a running tour in St. Thomas. Im hoping to find more of those. It's a nice way to get in a short run.
My next challenge is keeping up training for a March marathon while on an 11 night sailing at the end of January. I haven't even figured out how long I have to run on the ship yet. I'm dreading the possibility that it might be 20.

Well, my MIL caught a cold onboard and ended up skipping this tour. But I went and I think if she had been healthy she could have done it. The approach to the canoe was gentle and just a few steps. Getting to the village was uphill, maybe 20 yards, challenging but doable for her. She certainly couldn't have gotten to the waterfall, but we weren't there long so she would have waited in the canoe. Stepping into the canoe would have required assistance and probably would have been the most difficult challenge.

Looks like I won't need to pack my snorkel gear for this cruise. Thanks for all the input.

We will be in PV in December. Are there any good snorkel tours available. There is nothing offered from the ship (or else they are sold out).

I think you would do best given your situation on a private tour, just for you. They can be arranged but of course doing a tour for two people will be a lot more expensive, but I would think it can be done. I'm quite sure you could not do it through the ship. You might contact Anne Gordon at EmberaVillageTours.com and see what she says. Regards, Richard
Thanks, Richard.
I've been in contact with My Friend Mario and he (they?) seem to think that it will be manageable on their tour. They said they suggest that those with mobility issues wait with the canoe rather than walk to the waterfall, but other than that it should not be an issue.
So for now, that is our plan. I'll post here when we get back so that others can benefit from our experience.

We are traveling through the canal in December on Legend of the Seas. I'd like to do an Embera Village tour (the more authentic, the better) but we are traveling with my MIL who has some mobility limitations. We will have a folding wheelchair with us and she can walk short distances. We take her out on our ocean kayaks regularly and she actually was able to do the Virgin Gorda Baths last year by taking short breaks on the way, so she is a real trooper.
Can someone recommend a tour operator that would work well for our situation?
Thanks.

We are scheduled to visit 12/1 on Legend of the Seas. I'm interested to see if those of you scheduled before us are able to dock and what you find if you do. Please report back here!

Only thing I can confirm is Royal Caribbean Vision class does not as directly behind the bow is where the lines connect for the mules. This was on Legend last year.
Where would you suggest watching from on Legend? We are sailing her in November.

I have cruised in outside and balcony cabins and I just don't think it's worth the price. My cabin is where I sleep and bath. I get the same ship experience for a fraction of the price. I don't care if I'm sleeping in the engine room. Cheaper cabin=more cruises m

I was there 18 mos ago and vests were not required.

Is there anywhere that we can rent a portable wheelchair for a 3-day cruise. My MIL has a transport chair that she normally brings, but it would be nice to not have to cram it in the trunk for our DD's wedding cruise.
Thanks.

OK if you will click just above my name, you will find the information you need but I will give it to you for "just in case" - one that is very experienced in dealing with brides and their hair is called DeMarco which was Clip N Save - they do it all including day spas - their phone number is 321-866-9000 and ask for Ella - she will even advise you what is best and if you mention this board, she will give you a discount - if you want to go somewhere else for the pedi/manicure, contact Hollywood Nails in Cocoa Beach - they are also excellent.
Good luck and ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!1
Thanks Shirley! This is exactly what I needed. We're coming down for another cruise in November of this year so I'll drop by and check them out. We're running the Space Coast Marathon and then heading out on Freedom of the Seas to recover. We'll be coming in early so that we're fresh for the race, so I'll have time to poke around a bit. Looking forward to it!

I have booked my daughter's wedding on Monarch for October 2012 and I'm looking for 1. a good hair salon to get her hair done early in the morning before the wedding and 2. a nail salon where I can take the bride and her attendants for mani/pedis the evening before we sail. I don't want to spend an arm and a leg, but I want some place decent and reliable.
This thread is AWESOME, by the way. These are answers you can only get from locals! Thank you guys!

I think it was two or three cruises ago on Royal that we say a transgender photographer onboard. The company is definitely transgender friendly.
