1. We sailed on one of her last trips out of Mobile. Remember being in bed listening to creaks and groans, wondering if we

would make it back to Mobile. Pipes breaking and flooded corridors. Then we saw her again in Barcelona painted all white

    and named the Iberian Holiday.

  2. We were on one of her last cruises from Mobile. I remember laying in bed listening to her creak and groan, wondering if we'de make it back to Mobile. Two pipes burst in the area of our cabin. We made it and saw her about a year or more later in Barcelona. She was all painted up and named the Iberian Holiday.

  3. They are built in to the wall. The first 6 Fantasy Class (all but Elation and Paradise) had these removed on drydocks, as well as had the awful pink closets and doors replaced with a wood grain finish.

They have held off on the Elation for whatever reason. Given that her next dry dock is nearly a month long, I'm hoping these will be going.

And for anyone's who is curious, Elation also still has the slide that dumps in to the main Lido pool, as well as the aft pool. No water works.

    Thanks, that answers my question.

  4. I was on the Escape transatlantic, and can honesty say that ice never felt a shop love so much.

We had some moderately rough seas for a couple of days and the ship really moved a lot (the only cruise I've ever been on where the movement seemed to keep a lot of people in their rooms).

Even when the seas quietened down we still got quite a bit of movement, but there was very little movement later in the cruise, when it was calm.

A theory we had was that the ship is badly affected by the wind which was why it moved so much.

From my experience, I'd say that if the seas are calm and it isn't windy then you should be fine, but it doesn't seem to take much to get the ship moving.

We agree, we were on that sailing, even when we got out of the rough seas you could still feel movement from the wind. The ship is so tall that it seems to catch the wind. With the seas and cool temps. there were not many people by the pool, so the inside common areas seemed crowded. They said we had about 3200 (525 platinum) on this sailing. We like the smaller ships, so we're on the Dawn next week and the Jade the end of the month.

  5. Same here Cory and Michael!

We're tentatively in 24F&G -- two of the four seats on the right hand side of the plane.

See you both in a little over a month.

    Regards,

    Sandy and Bill

PS Anyone staying at the Hyatt House at Miami Airport on the 24th?

  6. We just got an e mail from NCL welcoming us aboard the NCL Pearl in 53 days.

The only problem is we're not booked on the Pearl. We sailed on her last March. Our next booked cruises are the NCL Escape's TA the end of October, and the NCL Jade in January. Don"t know why we got this e mail?

  7. My first question is who is the idiot who thought this one up? My second thought is I am glad there are other cruise lines out there that don't have this in effect.

We will probably still cruise with NCL, but if other lines have similiar destinations and pricing we might not choose NCL.

  8. We turned in the form requests for Nov 16 & 21st cruises on Fascination Haven't recd anything for either of them. We are boarding again on Fascination in the morning (yes, like her a lot). We will ask GS, see if they know what happened to the Platinum gift requests. Imagine they will just say call and check on it. We will report back if any news.

We got off the Fascination on Nov. 16th, and havn't received anything yet. Any info would be appreciated . Bill & Mary

  9. That depends on the ship and if you have roaming on. The phone will choose the stronger signal which would be cell at sea, but if you disable roaming then it will connect to the carriers towers on land.

On this trip the ship's signal was the strongest, even though you can see a number of cell towers from the river. Like in life, be careful where you roam.

  10. Can anyone verify if you have cell phone reception (Verizon or ATT) the whole way down the Mississippi? It makes sense that the reception would be "spotty," but I was curious to see if I would still have email/Facebook access from my phone going down the mighty Mississippi. I will be sailing on the Carnival Sunshine January 12th :)

We sailed from NOLA with a couple that lived in th city, DH was on the phone calling all his friends to wave as we passed by. Just remember once underway all calls go thru the ships system, so the At&t and verizon calls might cost more than the cruise. His bill was about six hundred dollars!

  11.
I don't mean to argue with you, but this just seemed contradictory to everything I have read so I looked up the oceanview room size for those 2 ships on NCL and CCL's websites. NCL stated that the Stars oceanview rooms were 159 SF and CCL stated that the Fascinations oceanview rooms were 185 SF. This is in line with what I have read about the oceanview rooms and what I experienced on our own cruises on NCL and CCL in inside and balcony rooms.
We've never brought a tape measure on any of our cruises. Besides the seperate desk and countertop there was a third tall closet with a door. We never used this it just had the life vests on the top shelf. CCL only had two closets with doors and a small open space on the end. CCL had a third bed that stuck out from the wall. It sure seemed bigger to us, mabey just the way it was set up. We've been on some NCL OVs that were much smaller then CCL cabins.
  12. What ships were you on that the OV was bigger on NCL than on CCL? I have not had OV on NCL but I have had insides and balconies on both and NCL was definitely smaller than CCL....from what I have read only the suites were bigger on NCL. Just curious what you sailed to have the opposite in the OV rooms.

For the NCL TA we were on the Star, towards the bow, had a lot of movement. On CCL we had two cabins, mid and aft on the b2b2b, both were smaller than the cabin we had on NCL.This was on the Fascination.

Both NCL and CCL had enough storage for us. We had a seperate counter and a desk on the Star, but a combo counter desk on the Fascination.

  13. A little background on us. We are platinum on Carnival, and 6 sailing nights from platinum on NCL. We are recently back from a 12 night NCL TA cruise, and a 14 night back to back to back on Carnival.

Cabins: On these trips NCL cabin was larger than our Carnival cabin..we had OV on both. But there was plenty of storage in both cabins.

Shows: NCL wins. They had 45 minute shows and Carnival had 30 minute. NCL had a show band, and Carnival used canned music. NCL had better costumes, more changes and sets.

Wine on board. CCL wins, allowing 1 bottle of wine per person over 21, and NCL has a $15 corkage fee per bottle.

NCL cruisers were older, experienced cruisers (maybe because of the TA)

CCL were young, young families, and a lot of first time cruisers.

A lifeboat drill: NCL takes very seriously. NCL takes your names and cabin numbers during the drill to see if everyone is present. They even had a remedial class for those that missed the drill on the first day. CCL was controlled chaos.

Food: Starting with breakfast. Both dining rooms were pretty equal, although NCL croissants were smaller than CCL and you had to order them with your breakfast in the dining room. CCL brought baskets of pastries around.

The Lido breakfast buffet NCL wins hands down.

In what universe is cut up hotdogs, onions, and peas breakfast food? Also with CCL cut up breakfast sausage in tomato sauce. They also had the bacon police.

Overall the lunch buffets were pretty similar, but CCL had grilled deli sandwiches all day, and their pizza was MUCH better than NCL.

Note: NCL does open their dining room on embarkation day.

Food overall Carnival wins. NCL seems to serve their best meals in their pay restaurants. Carnival MDR served escargot vs Shrimp on NCL. Also CCL soups were much better. Carnival desserts were much better. NCL serves crepes on the LIDO every evening which DH liked very much.

For outside seating Carnival has much more. NCL uses most of their outside for balconies and suites. Carnival's serenity deck, and outside eating venues were very good.

These are just a few of the differences that we noticed on these 2 cruises.
