lol.  1st time.  We were supposed to be in Eleuthera but they imposed a curfew a few days before we were supposed to be there.  I am so glad we switched.  What a delightful place!  We rode bikes everywhere or walked. Best Christmas decorations anywhere!

    Yup ...

And my friend Vicki's place ... you might guess she love's blue!

Crystal cruises' Serenity is supposed to stop there Mondays over the summer, but there is strong opposition to "the invasion".

    Happy travels ...

We just got back from 5 days, 4 nights in Bahamas/Spanish wells and spent one day in Deerfield beach.  A little cold but it was very nice.  Everyone was wearing masks except when eating or on beach.  I didn't see a lot of crowds.  Both places were ghost towns.  It was a PIA with coordinating the bahamas health visa, covid test and flight but all went well.

    jean87510 ...

Fascinated that you found "my" Spanish Wells.  First and only trip?

We have a place there, my mother was from there, I spent months every year there when school was out, and months when we can nowadays.

I am sailing on Crystal out of Nassau in October and am flying in the day before sailing.  I am a solo female, so have concerns about a random taxi from the airport to my hotel. Is there a local car service that folks can recommend to pick me up at the airport, take me to my hotel, and then, at the end of the cruise,  meet me at the port, and  return me to the airport. Thank you.

Depending on your hotel, they may either have a transportation option in place already or can recommend/book a taxi service.

Majestic Tours is one of Nassau's oldest tourist transportation companies and has collective transportation options as well as private transfers.  Perhaps check them out:  http://www.majestictoursbahamas.com/transportation/

  4. Robert ...

I'm a Nassauvian so never actually stayed at Greycliff though I've eaten there often and know the owners, etc.  I have interfaced with many over the years who have been guests there and never heard any real complaints about the hotel.

You will feel welcome ... I can't imagine otherwise.  No-one will think any different of you as a solo traveler - Greycliff hosts businesspeople on solo trips all the time (I've been on the receiving end of many).

I have no insight as to how easy it will be to schlep suitcases to your room, but it is a bit of luxury property and you should expect to accept assistance (and probably tip reasonably for it).

The restaurant is a grand old dame of Nassau ... it either is or isn't to one's taste.  I love its charm, as a converted residence.  Have never experienced bad service.

Hope this is at least a bit of helpful information ...

  5. What is your experience in taking the Light Rail from the Bergen Airport to City Center? We will be buying the Bergen Card, which includes free Light Rail transportation, and would love to hear about your experience.

On the Star, just left Bergen in Sunday. The light rail is great for the trip from the airport to downtown. Though I’d get off at the Nonneseter stop (next to last) if you will need a taxi as it’s right at the train station with lots of them on the opposite side of the building.

Make sure you buy the Bergen Card to be picked up at the airport. It has to be specified. The desk there will not sell you a card and only supplies pre-reserved and pre-paid cards.

In any event the tickets at the machines just before you go down the escalator to the light rail station are easy ... I think it was NOK 37 for adults ... one of party is a senior (over 67 required) and that ticket is only NOK 19.

Busses are faster but we did just fine with our suitcases & carry-ons.

    Go for it ...

  6. One thing we’ve taken advantage of is Expedia’s facility to book ground transportation. I’m sure other sites do something similar but we have been able to book and pay in advance seamlessly in a couple places. And it gives you the full range of options available to OTAs from trains and busses through to luxury personal chauffeurs. Not all options are available from all airports, FWIW

  7. In Nassau go to the Bahamas Handcrafts store on Shirley Street. It's far away from the port, so you'll need a taxi but the stuff is genuine, varied and truly artsy. It's the place we go to take gifts when we visit friends off-island. Plus we have lots of their stuff hanging on our walls.

  8. Hi ...

You can't just catch a ferry to Blue Lagoon. It's excursion only, and boarding the boat is the equivalent of a gate-check.

I'd highly recommend booking it with your cruise line rather than direct for two reasons:

    1) unless your cruise leaves Nassau really late, you could miss the boat and

    2) the excursions booked with the cruise line actually depart from the wharf where you tie up. Otherwise the "public" Blue Lagoon ferries leave from Paradise Island ... a $4.00/person taxi ride away (or $3.00 by water taxi).

    Hope that's helpful ...
