  1. Ignore it. It shouldn't even let you book it. It is just there so Carnival can send out text alerts in case the ship is late to port, itinerary change, etc...

It's there so Carnival can send out texts? What? How does that even work?

    Sorry Fanatic, incorrect. ;)

It's simply just an advisory. About Home Ports. Advising that not all home ports offer post-cruise excursions. And it's listed as an "open tour" with one ticket still available so it will be sure to show up to every person booked on the sailing. And then it is 99 year old minimum age because some special people try to then buy it. "I don't know what it is I'm buying, but hey it's a penny! Bargain!!"

This is all told to to me personally, direct from the shore tour dept. :)

  2. Coming soon:

GRAMMARAMA! A night of 5 or 6 grandmas showing slideshow pics and telling stories about their grandkids.

Remote Control Master: One lucky man selected from the showroom audience gets to be in charge of the television remote for the big screen. Great for all ages, all walks of life, as he will be constantly changing channels...

R U Serious? Via a live feed helmet cam, main showroom gets a live POV from Guest Service Desk perspective... If majority of audience presses their vote button, the Guest walks the plank. Be sure to look out for your grumpy table mates!

  3. It's problematic getting to the next port because they didn't have passports and even if they did cruise lines are not as inclined to allow this as they used to be and have tightened when they will allow it.

Ok, fair enough, no passports makes that not possible.

Then perhaps he could have used those 3 hours on the phone with those nearby relatives? Explaining your bind, in between a rock and hard place? I personally would be happy to come rescue my nephew/cousin/grandson.

Finally, I guarantee this was not the first time this exact thing has happened to someone.

Nor will it be the last. Why should the precedent be set?

Yes good will is nice, but what of the 1000's of prior cases? What of the huge unknown number in the future? Carnival is in the bag for making exceptions for all of these? Why? Or inversely, why not? "They got it, why not me?" "And me?" "And me?"...............

Good will is just that. But OP is "requiring" Carnival to make exception to their rules for you or you want to punish them (albeit so tiny in the grand scheme) You say Carnival will no longer be getting your business, fine that's 100% your prerogative.

But sadly, realize you are also perpetuating the "Me" generation in your kids. Teaching them: 1) rules don't matter. They are in place for others, but not I. 2) And if you break them there shouldn't be consequences. And 3) if there is consequences due to your fault, be sure to lash out, because you didn't get your way.

Yes the whole matter really really sucks, and losing that money stings.

I'm not trolling and not talking down to you but as a fellow father, suggesting to take those lemons, and at least use opportunity teach a valuable life lesson to your daughter and son.

  4. As others said before, slippery slope for Carnival for every sob story.

    Coulda, shoulda, woulda, scenario:

Dad: "Ok, all you guys go on ahead and board... me and Forgetful Fred will go collect the wallet, get a hotel for the night and catch up to you to you guys in the first port."

F.F.: "Thank you, Sir, I promise I will work to reimburse you for your out of pocket expenses."

All Others: "Yay! The entire trip is not ruined and we are all taking responsibility for our own actions!"

    And, scene. ;)

  5. But back in the day I used to be more open to whoever, but after a close call "cliff vs. van ride", I now have a bit more concern banging around in my head about 3rd party's liability insurance, so for my peace of mind, it is more cruise line excursions for me esp. when with the family.

And I've had some good luck with Carnival's price matching so an added plus there. ;)

  6. Would be nice if they did but the writer of this article should get their facts straight.

    1. You don't have to get a balcony to get the UBP on NCL. We are in an inside and have the UBP as a promo.

    2. They do charge a "CHOICE PROMO SRVC CHRG."which is about $90pp but that is the gratuities on the beverage package. There is NO $200 charge PLUS another charge of gratuities. Carnival charges 15% on their price for gratuities.

    3. Sometimes you can find the cruises with NCL cheaper if you do not take the package, but it is not $500 cheaper. The most I have seen is around $100 cheaper.

And would be even nicer if the writer of this article could get their grammar straight:

Carnival wants to offer free drinks because customers have responded quite well to similar programs, as long as their called "free" and unlimited.

  7. In addition to everything matching exactly, the non-Carnival excursion has to be open to cruise ship passengers. Meaning, if it's only available to hotel guests, you are out of luck. I speak from experience. [emoji6]

Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app

    Same here.

Yes, correct. It has to actually be "bookable".

But I will say 2 out of 4 worked.

  8. Is it cheaper to book one while onboard or before you cruise?

I know you can't pick one until you are on board the ship, but do you get any priority if you book in advance?

First question, I know... Tours never cheaper on board. Either the same price or possibly slightly higher. Or, if they go down they credit you the difference back. :)

But cabanas sell out, so IMO don't wait or you'll be in for some disappointment when you get on board.

(Sorry no idea about the picking though.)

  9. A waste of $$$.

Honestly I will never understand these... not just here, but internet in general...

Person A: "For those of you who are looking for x, I have good news..."

Person B: "Great! I was looking for x, thank you!"

    Person C: "I HATE X!"

What is the ideal scenario in Person C's mind?

Person A: "For those of you who are looking for x, I have good news..."

    Person C: "I HATE X!"

Person B: "Well I was looking for x, but now a total stranger with a fabricated name informed me they personally do not like it, I've changed my mind on it's value... I think I'm going to pass now."

Keep in mind this was never a "What Is Your Opinion On X? Is It Worth It?" thread

  10. I called today, as I was previously told I should start seeing 2017 by late May, well, now they are saying by this week, starting tomorrow.

BTW, directly from the horse's mouth, each late Spring they load for the entire following year. So by summer, all 2017 is to be available... then by Spring 2017 all 2018 should be available, etc.

  11.

    ???

I asked for examples. None were provided but *I* am in denial???

    Um ... whatever :)

I did say not quite missed,

but as I read it, only due to the perseverance of the family scrambling to get back did they make it.

Maybe I'm wrong. I believe the author ( redstapler7 ) is on here regularly... let's ask her:

If left completely in the Operator's hands, 100% trusting & complacent, do you feel you would have missed the ship?

  12.

So cavetubing.bz which is frequently well reviewed here got them back to the port and they did NOT miss the ship.

Bottom line is that this is not an example of a private tour operator that ran a tour where the people missed the ship.

    Talk about in denial...

"Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?"
