  1. We had a shore excursion from the port of Livorno to Florence and Pisa for six family members with Italy tours.eu in December 2023.

We had a marvelous time on this shore excursion!  Our driver, Diego, was wonderful!  He was an excellent driver, entertaining, informative and very helpful.  My husband had some mobility issues and Diego always made certain my husband was accommodated.  We loved Diego!

The tour guide in Florence was excellent.  In spite of the inclement weather, lots of rain, she made Florence come alive for us.  The visit to Accademia was fantastic!  There were few of us in the area  around Michelangelo’s  David so our guide did a 360 degree explanation of the impressive sculpture.  She noted that it is rare to be able to see David’s backside!  What a view!

Our guide directed us to more sights before she left us and suggested a nice cafe where my husband could settle in while the rest of us wandered around Florence.  He thoroughly enjoyed people watching as well as drinking expressos!

Diego gave us many interesting facts about Pisa and the leaning tower on the drive to the famous landmark.  Diego was able to get us very close to the tower and told my husband about a cafe where he could still see the view but not walk.  The rest of us wandered around the site to view the tower from all sides.

All too soon it was time for the return trip to the ship.  Diego shared so much more about Livorno and Tuscany during the drive.  He had us laughing uproariously when he told us stories.  Everyone of us were sorry we had to leave Diego at the side of the ship.  What a driver and guide - he’s one in a million!

  2. We try to take food tours wherever we travel.  While in Rome in December, 2023, we had a fantastic food tour via a golf cart.  Our English speaking guide made Rome come alive through food.  We booked the tour with Eating Europe.  I discovered this tour on TripAdvisor.com.  This is a “can’t miss” tour!

  3. We will be staying in Rome in December 2023 for two nights pre cruise.  The cruise is an NCL transatlantic.  NCL booked us in The Hoxton Hotel.  Is anyone familiar with this hotel?
After reading most of this thread, I’ve come to the conclusion that we might have better rooms if we independently book them and use Rome Cabs or Rome Limo for our transfer to the pier in Civitavecchia.

  4. We have an RCI cruise booked for October.  My husband and I are both over 70 and are both in good health.  We do have a family doctor who will sign a clearance form.  However, I really resent having to submit a form to RCI so I can cruise because I am over 70.  We’ve been regularly cruising for the past 30 years.  I have seen many less than 70 year old cruisers who are extremely overweight, using portable oxygen, waddling about, etc., who have seem to have many health issues.

Land tours are becoming more attractive.

  5. This is a fantastic cruise!  We were on the Feb 2019 Star cruise from Santiago to Buenos Aires and thoroughly enjoyed the cruise.  We began with 3 pre-cruise days in Santiago which was a good introduction to South America.  Walking among the penguins in the Falkland Islands was a highlight of the cruise.    We booked an expedition cruise from Ushuaia to Antartica for December 2020 so we can actually step foot on the Seventh Continent.  Never thought about going to Antartica until we went on the Feb 2019 cruise!

  6. Hi Reina Del Mar -  we are staying at the Sheraton precruise before our upcoming cruise.  We also have the Princess transfer to the Star Princess.  What time did you leave the hotel to go to the ship?  I keep reading about boarding according to your cabin deck.  Did you have to wait for the time allotted to your deck?

  7. I just asked our TA this same question.  She said that she would prepare a spreadsheet to compare all-inclusive cruise lines such as Regent, Crystal, etc. with Princess and other main stream lines.  According to the TA, when all of the costs on a main stream cruise line are compared with an all inclusive cruise line, the cost is very close.  I realize this depends on cabin category and other variables; however, I’m anxious to see the comps.

Has anyone cruised with AMRAS Cruises? We are booked on the Amadeus Silver II from Budapest to Nuremberg on an October "Danube Waltz" river cruise. It is part of a Celebrity vacation package that includes an ocean cruise following the river cruise. The Amadeus Silver II will be launched in April.

I found some info searching the net and a couple of Cruise Critic reviews.

  9. We usually use Clorox Wipes on planes , hotel rooms and in staterooms - even if it's just to wipe off the tv remote in rooms. Started doing this after becoming very ill with pneumonia shortly after a cross country flight in 2009. Good habit but we neglected to use the wipes in our stateroom on our Feb 2014 cruise. Both hubby and I suffered from coughs the last day of the 11 day cruise and were miserable for the next two weeks. By the way I did see and hear our room steward coughing during the cruise. We do travel extensively for business and pleasure and are normally quite healthy.
