  1. The cays at Waterlemon and Cinnamon are probably pretty close to the same distance from shore. Cinnamon may be a little further, but the start of that swim is over a sandy, shallow beach, while you get over deeper water sooner heading towards Waterlemon.

As long as the water isn't rough, neither one is so far out that it's not doable for most people, you just need to be able to not let the fact that you're in deep water some of the time bother you.

Okay, I lied about that last question being my last question. :D How deep are we talking, in general? I don't mind it as long as I can see the bottom, but again, I can't speak for my snorkeling partner. Thanks for being so helpful!

  2. I think Waterlemon is worth the extra time/hassle to get to, but you will need to be aware of your schedule restraints. If I had to choose a more time friendly alternative, I'd go directly to Cinnamon and snorkel out to and around the cay there. In my opinion, you need to bee pretty comfortable in the water to snorkel at either one of those sites - they both entail a swim that takes you a air distance from land over water that is well overhead deep.

Thanks for the info, augie! One more question, then... is the swim to the cay closer at one or the other, or are they pretty similar distances? I'm a solid swimmer, but I'd rather take my mom to whichever swim is relatively easier.

  3. Host Anne - We are on Carnival Glory in Jan (the cruise ships schedule isn't out yet for that date). We are in port from 10am - 6pm. Is this enough time to get over to St John and back??? We want to do the beach and maybe a little shopping (if there is an close by). Thanks!

Wendy, I don't know how accurate this site is: http://cruisett.com/ports.php?PortID=620&date=29 ... but it says that there will be SIX other ships in port with us! ACK!

Host Anne, I saw you'd mentioned Waterlemon, which I'm interested in because of the snorkeling praise, but I've seen a lot of people warning that it's maybe not the best idea due to time constraints. Is it worth the extra time/commute, or is there any comparable snorkeling closer to where we'll dock at St. John? I'm hesitant about Trunk because if there really are six other ships in port with us, Trunk will probably get crowded.

  4. Color me worried! We'd been planning to hop over to St. John on our Carnival Glory cruise in January. Just looked up the port schedule, and OH NO.... we'll be sharing the islands with SIX other ships: Norwegian Gem, Celebrity Solstice, Disney Magic, Crown Princess, Norwegian Epic, and Freedom of the Seas. This makes me worry about DIY St. John... will the ferries all be full so we'd have to leave St. John even more than three hours before our ship departure in order to make sure we get a spot on a ferry, get a taxi, and don't get stuck in traffic back to Havensight? Can I even count on us being docked at Havensight with so many other ships there?

  5. We were on the Inspiration the week before Christmas. We took all the Christmas cards we'd received and taped them to our door, left open so that they flopped out and were easy to see from way down the hall. Also put up a blank Post-It pad and a pen, and received many sweet Christmas wishes... and one awesome drawing of a platypus! LOL. Can't wait to see what people write on our door on our upcoming cruise in February!

  6. Thanks for linking to the recipe thread... unfortunately I had already checked there and in the foodie forum, with no luck. I'd love the recipes for the flatiron steak that's on the Classics menu, and specifically the sauce that's served with it. Also the mango swirl drink... they're like crack! I know it's piña colada and mango daiquiri and I could just make a generic version, but I want the real deal if possible. :-) Oh, and the diet coconut cake... yummiest diet thing I've ever had, I think.

  7. I recently cruised on the Inspiration, and there are a few recipes I would love to have that I can't find in these boards or elsewhere. Is there someone at Carnival I could contact to request the recipes, or would I have had to request them while on the ship? If the latter is the case, who's cruising soon that wants to request them for me? ;-)

  8. Oh, I'd just about kill to have the recipe for the sauce that's served with the flatiron steak on the Carnival Classics menu... I had it more times than I care to admit! Also, I really adore the bread that's served with every meal, maybe a sourdough sort of roll... thanks so much for doing this for the rest of us!
