  1. YOu'll have to search to find the name of this company because it's been a couple of years since I was there,,but they had this tour company that ran tour buses that had different color lines. But you bought a tour ticket and could use the buses as jump on and off buses because you didn't have to stay on the bus you were on. We used them for two days and gave ourselves a great tour of Copenhagen. Also they gave you some cheapo earplugs to wear so you could dial in your language and hear a recording while you were bouncing around.

Everyone there rides bicycles. Never seen so many in my life. Renting on of those could be an option too.

  2. There is dancing in the atrium area for sure. I have seen people dressed up and dancing every night. Carnival is pretty good about having live music in different venues. Bring your dancing shoes!

Guess that means no sleep as I am one deck below this. Maybe I should take that balcony upgrade.

  3. I have read this thread and don't have a thing to add to the topic.

Off topic I have to wonder why the worlds richest and most powerful country can't afford health care for all.

Every other half civilized country has medical care (and often drug and dental) for everyone.

I love the USA but for the life of me, on this issue ,I think you guys are nuts.

Some of us think we're nuts too. I have traveled a bit and I find we are some of the only ones (that are rich and powerful) that don't look out for ourselves. And let's not get started on education.

I don't know if I would trust myself to prescribe myself the correct drugs (watching HOUSE on tv doens't make me a doctor),,and I m not so sure what I would buy in Mexico is real or not. If I thought it was all real,,I would buy some blue pills.

  4. Maybe its not the food thats spoiled.:D

Someone just wrote a review on the Splendor that pretty much makes this the best ship on the ocean,,,,,so I will get on that one instead. YAHOO !!!!!

PS: if food was spoiled,,it would sure seem as though many many many people would have gotten sick and we would have heard about it,,like that Princess boat that has everyone in cabins being porcelain truck drivers.

  5. I will be on the Splendor in 2 months. All these Debby Downer people talking about this ship make me think this could be my last CCL cruise. Some make me think I should pack 7 days worth of food in my luggage.

For the last 3 days I have read about "bling-boys". I never even heard that until 3 days ago and so deragitory. I do wonder for those that are so appalled by the Bling-boys,,do you ever go outside and see people in the real world?

Honeslty,,,I will have fun and you guys can't stop me,,try as you may. And I am not a bling-boy,,I am a 60 year old man that can live and let live.

  6. I am going in April. I really wanted to do HAL out of Sand Diego. I have to downgrade to outside cabins for this trip. I jsut recieved the HAL brochure. Same type cabin, same itnerary,,HAL ship was 500 per person more. I know there will be a tradeoff. I know the meals will not be gourmet. You hav to make a trade off somewhere. the amount I saved will pay for all my extras for the 7 days.

  7. Not Carnival but HAL,,,so here is a warning,,don't do it!

HAL sells thier matresses to but they are not the same as the ship. Yes they come direct form the factory, the covering looks just like a HAL mattress (they did thier coversions over the last few years too) but they don't quite feel the same or last very long,,the second part I am basing on a thread about this same subject on the HAL forum.

I got rid of my Simmons Beautyrest for the HAL bed which is a Sealy Posturpedic, european top (whatever that means). I think the mattress is probably fine but the box springs are junk,,and you know there are no box springs on a ship, and somehow the way they support you on the ships are not the same at home. I would like to have tried the HAL mattress with the Simmons box springs.

But someone on the HAL forum started a thread about their HAL mattress which wore out in 3 years (10 year warranty I think) and always made a crunchy sound. The Sealy rep came to their house, had the bed replaced and the new one made a crunchy sound right off the bat. Sealy wanted to give them a 3rd one and they didn't want that. They are in the process of figuring out how to sue (I think) to get their money back or use thier money on a better mattress.

The major point on the thread was buy a mattress from someone that has a store, so you have someone to go to and complain if you didn't get what you wanted,,rather then dealing with a factory as the cruise lines are just the middle men and once they made the sale you're on your own. I am going for a memory foam bed when this HAL one wears out. And yes,,HAL beds on the ships are to die for too.

  8. Carnival will provide earplugs free of charge, delivered to your room, just call service.

We were on the Freedom April 2010, I could hear the lobby singers until about 3am most of the nights. After two nights I called and got ear plugs, problem solved!

I use earplugs all the time,,they shut out everything. My fear is we would hit an iceberg or get torpedoed by a U-Boat and I wouldn't hear the horn alert and announcements.

  9. Does HAL push the fruity drinks like CCL does? At times, I get tired of being asked if I want a drink.

I honestly don't recall ever being pushed into drinking on HAL. On the first day when they have the sendoff party around the pools they will have servers with trays of the HAL versions of the DOD but they just ask if you want one and if you say no, they're gone. If you do order a drink they will try,,on the first day,,to sell you a cocktail card which is actually a good deal but,,at least from my experience, they pretty much leave you alone.

My favortie bar on HAL ships is the Crow's Nest which is foreward above the bridge. You get a 180 degree panoramic view out of the windows of where you're going and they have really nice recliner chairs that face looking out,,,if you're lucky enough to snag one. If not there are tons of tables. You can sit there, a server will come by and ask if you want a drink, you say no and they're gone.

  10. I too am glad you liked HAL. If you look at siggys I have only been on 4 cruises, all of them HAL. I think I prefer the quiet too but I don't know, that's one of the reasons I am trying the 4 day CCL cruise next year, see what the FUn Ship is all about. The big advantage (aside from price) for CCL is I can take cruises from a home port and stay off of airplanes,,albiet I cant go far, like Mexico is about it. IF HAL had cruises out of Los Angeles a lot I probably wouldn't try CCL, just save $$ a little longer. But I'll try anything once.

Every HAL ship I have been on has had the comedian, the las vegas style show, the magician, and some type of virtuoso in some field for thier shows (on the Eurodam we had a British stage actress one night and she was awesome, if I could remember her name our Brit friends would all know her).

A few have asked me when I retunr next March from a CCL ship to try to do a comparison too, I will try but I will preface it now and then that I don't eat the the buffet on HAL and probably won't on CCL either,,,just not into pushing and shoving and they do that on HAL too (and cut in lines).

I really love HAL, hope I can love CCL too,,,I am willing to try.
