My wife and I are on the same cruise. Assuming that the maintenance work is truly necessary, I can't fault HAL for wanting to get it done ASAP, and I think their $100 pp OBC compensation (plus a refund of the Mazatlan docking fees) is fair. My only wish is that, if they had to cancel a port, they would have cancelled Cabo instead. I'm so sick of that place, and I hate tenders! So we'll stay on the ship when we're anchored there and enjoy drinking up some of our OBC!
That's exactly what my sister & I plan to do, too.

Can you access myvikingjourney if you booked through a TA or is this exclusive to bookings through Viking ?

I just tried logging in and got a pop up..."We're having technical difficulties"... no kidding.

Thanks Wineaux... Great news about SM Fish Co.....

This will be a fun review to follow.... See you next Saturday. Safe cruising.
When I pull out the driveway at work this afternoon, I'll wave at the Crown Plaza... Bon Voyage!

Google Maps...zoom in.... it's between the Acapulco Restaurant and the LA Maritime Museum.
If you walk from Berth 54, across 22nd Street to the Red Car Station (hopefully it will be running), catch the Red Car to the "Downtown" Station, near the Maritime Museum.
If the Red Car isn't running it's a walk along Harbor Blvd to the Museum or along Sampson Way, along the fishing boats and parking lot of Ports O'Call.

Here are links to helpful discussions which includes photos of berth 46 about 10/3 with 4 ships in the Port of LA:

Astro Flyer.....That 2nd link is great. I copied and posted over to our JOTS 10/3 Roll Call. Thanks for finding it.

The SP Fish Market is not fancy. But the food is delicious. The fresh fish, especially swordfish or halibut is great.

Maybe you're mixing up the BW Plus with the Sunrise Hotel.... Sunrise is on Harbor Blvd next door to The Grinder and around the corner from The Green Onion Mexican restaurant. You can see your ship from the Sunrise and is within walking distance of downtown San Pedro, Ports O'Call and the other restaurants in the port area.

We have this hotel booked for post-cruise. Someone mentioned that the area was not so great. Did you feel safe walking around, especially at night? Do the buses pass this area into Old San Juan?
This hotel is in San Pedro, CA. cruising from Port of Los Angeles.

I sailed with Staff Captain - Kate McCue on Rhapsody of the Seas in Alaska, August, 2011. My heartfelt CONGRATULATIONS to Captain Kate McCue.

Steve and Astroflyer,
My nerves got the best of me and I called American Airlines and explained the situation. The lady on the line was so nice and understanding! She switched our flight to the 6 pm and even got us seats together! I know that that leaves us quite a bit of "airport time" but that is preferable to worrying about docking, lines, rushing off the ship and racing to the airport. Now we can enjoy a nice farewell lunch with my parents too. I want to relax on the ship all week without the impending thought of a madcap debarkation.
Thank you so much for all your information and suggestions!
Cathy
Good job on getting your flight change. One less thing to worry about after a wonderful cruise.

Last year when Celebrity docked at 46, at lunch I walked down there to check out the process of disembarking & embarking. The port erects a pretty good size tent. At that time of day, there were still a lot of people mingling around waiting for the shuttles or their rides to pass through to pick them up. I'm guessing the buses were the airport transfers and the shuttles were from berth 93.
There is no cruise ship parking in the marina lots located in this vicinity.
When Disney was here doing Mexico, berth 46 became they're dock and were in process of revamping it when they decided to pull out of LA.

Thanks for posting the pictures.
Here's an oddity..... on the NCL website, the Jewel is arriving in LA from Vancouver on Sunday, Oct 4th and departs for Mexico Riviera.

My post wasn't intended to be critical & my apologies if that is how it appeared. :o
This thread has helped me discover many things I didn't know previously but it's only based on online info.
Have a great cruise on the Ruby & it'll be interesting to read about your experiences at berth 54 which is primarily for cargo. Until this discussion I was only aware of berth 46 being used for a 3rd ship and wasn't even aware of 54 being used for cruise ships.
No worries... Our postings crossed each other. I realized my fubar about the Iowa, corrected it and there was your post.
And this will be a first time in a really long time (if ever) they used this berth for a cruise ship. I'll be on Jewel, where we know our ship will be. It will interesting, too, to read the posts of the passengers on Ruby on that sailing date if they get notified where they will be embarking.
I don't know how to add a picture, but there's an aerial view of this berth area and you can see how slim it is...

Sorry.....Berth 87 is the home of USS Iowa.

This will be a very interesting day....
The San Pedro and Long Beach Cruise Ship Calendar's are not up-to-date, yet.
If the picture of Berth 54 is correct, and the Port of LA thinks they're going to get the Ruby Princess in that spot, they are probably going to have to move the Lane Victory to get Ruby in there.
I'm so glad I booked a hotel with shuttle service to get on board the Jewel.
Berth 91 is now the home of the USS Iowa.

Great review and pictures. This will be my 1st cruise on Jewel OTS so I very much enjoyed a tour thru your pictures. Also, loved seeing the Underground Tour pics. That is a definite to-do in Seattle. Thanks for posting.

Since freeway stories are being shared...here's my most recent story....
From my house in Long Beach to Getty Center is approximately 40 miles and all freeway (no surface streets). We (SoCal residents don't travel in mileage, we travel in time). Last Friday, I went to the Getty; we left my house at 11:30 AM..... We arrived at the Getty Center at 1:00 PM... 1 1/2 hours to go 40 miles. I have the SigAlert App and every freeway that would get us there had a bright RED zone. 5 freeways later we arrived....
If you're unfamiliar with our freeway system or even the major surface streets to get around.....bottom line....Fly in the day before.

Yes, it is possible that you might leave from Long Beach.
If you are on the Island Princess on 2-18-16, you will probably be in San Pedro. The Cruise TimeTable is showing the Carnival Imagination is also in port and it will dock in Long Beach.
-
You won't have any issues. The restaurants on Pine St and Shoreline Village will be open. The Passport Bus may stop early, but it would be short cab or Uber ride back to the QM.
-
Uber is well established in SF. Their headquarters is there.
I 2nd CruiserBruce's response. Uber-San Francisco is the best way to get around.

I was in Avalon last week. The course is in ok shape. The greens are green, the fairways for the most part are green. It is a tough, but fun, 9 holes.
Give it a try.... Drive the 1st hole from the top...quite a challenge.

There's also the PediCabs. They are just outside the cruise terminal. Pretty reasonable, too.

Additional info
Thank you very much….. loving your review. Question about laundry along the Denali and on board… Along Denali, how are the machines paid….coin or dollar bills? On board, are the machines paid using the Medallion App or coin/dollar bills? Appreciate your information.
We are on Royal Connoisseur/Southbound Aug 5th.
