  1. Thank you. According to my travel agent, she said they've added some balconies. She could be wrong.

I just booked a November 2019 to Cuba yesterday. The ship doesn't have balconies. Oceanview cabins are tiny about 120 sq feet. We decided on a spacious oceanview on the 9th deck around 159 sq feet still tiny but that's the best we can do. Junior suites are the size of the spacious oceanview with a balcony. The real suites are too expensive for our pockets. Oh well ...

  2. I booked the dawn 14 night Caribbean out of Boston for October 2018 2 weeks ago using the $50 pp down payment promo. If I call to get the $100 obc will I loose the deposit promo and have to pay the extra $700 deposit to hold the cabin?

I'm booked on the Pacific Coastal for October 2018. Called this afternoon and got my $300 OBC. My sister in law got her $100 OBC no problem. But hurry I think the promo will expire Jan 6th.

  3. Hi everyone and Happy New Year!

My wife and I will soon be doing a Panama Canal sailing on the Jewel. We've been extremely lucky to be able to book a forward-facing SE Penthouse suite in the bow, and we are thinking about inviting a small group of people over mid-afternoon during the Canal transit. Ideally, we'd like to have some snacks on hand, as well as some beer and soda.

We've never used a butler before except for room service for ourselves, so my first question is whether we would arrange this with the butler. (I assume so.) Also, I'm sure we would have to pay for the beverages, but would there be a charge for snack food? (No problem if so, I'm just trying to get the basic info.)

Thanks in advance for any info, advice, etc., and again, Happy New Year!

(And don't worry, we will tip the butler appropriately! :) )

So glad you asked this question as I'm wondering about this myself. We are booked in an aft facing SF Penthouse Suite next year, our first ever NCL sailing. I would like to have some snacks so we can invite my brother's family during the 2 sea days while watching the wake.

We sailed in a suite to the Holy Land in 2011 on Celebrity & had 2 small parties onboard during the 2 weeks we were sailing. One was a get together with CC friends & my cousin's birthday. Our butler took care of the preparation & of course he was treated very well!

  4. Thanks Terry for the link. I also read this thread from beginning to end as I am unable to find much info about St Barts. My hubby & I are meeting the kids over there this Thursday flying to St Maarten then taking the short flight to St Barts. I am aware of the airport, I really wanted to do the ferry but of course everyone wants to get there ASAP.

My son rented a villa for a week. So we have a week to enjoy the island and maybe spot some celebrities? lol..But the exuberant prices on everything is scary. Oh well...

Thank you for posting your awesome pictures! Enjoyed them a lot.

    I meant exorbitant prices

  5. From Vogue magazine two days ago, they have this headline: "A Beginner’s Guide to St. Barth’s" with these highlights: "There’s a reason why celebrities, models, socialites, and It girls consistently retreat to the tropical paradise of St. Barth’s. The island blends the sophistication of St.-Tropez with the laissez-fare Caribbean lifestyle—which means it’s exclusive yet totally unpretentious. Walk into any beachfront restaurant, for instance, and you’ll see well-dressed women with Birkins eating lunch beside sandy, barefoot beachgoers. It’s a specific brand of laid-back luxury that breeds instant converts. Make one trip, and you’ll find yourself immediately hooked. Still, St. Barth’s can be an intimidating place to navigate if you’ve never been."

This interesting profile has lots of tips and ideas for where to stay, getting there, dining, drinks, after-hours fun, etc. If planning to visit St. Barts, this would be an info resource that is worth checking.

  6. booked this for September 2016 and will post an update when I return

I have been looking at that itinerary myself but the route is the reverse- Vienna to Bucharest. I would have booked this cruise if I saw it earlier. Will probably do it next year. I love this itinerary going into the less travelled Danube. Already booked our first river cruise ( Danube cruise) for October. Please post a review when you get back. Enjoy your cruise.

  7. All ships, but only a choice of 2 cheap bottles. On the Splendor last week, they also offered 50% of other bottles that night. They also extended the offer to the second night, which the cruise director oddly announced during the muster drill.

Good to know thanks for sharing. We might have to take advantage of the discounted price on a better kind. Hope it will also be offered during our cruise on the Splendor next year.

  8. We have sailed on Princess & Celebrity as well. Any ship is good enough for us as long it's the right itinerary and price. We go on cruises with an open mind and hope for a pleasant experience. We sailed on Carnival for the 1st time in 2009, it was a weekend getaway out of Miami with the kids so that was a good bonding time with them. Will be sailing again in May with our then 22 y/o granddaughter as her college graduation getaway from our cruise port so no flying involved.

I'm pretty sure we will have fun!

  9. Does it sell out quickly? What about the 1st night? Can I make a reservation ahead of time? If so, where? I don't see it on my booking.

This is exactly what I did when I made reservation for my Splendor cruise in May

  10. HAL is our favorite line.We are not loyal to any cruise line we always pick according to itinerary & price. However because HAL is more pricey than the others we have sailed on different lines because of this.

HAL is definitely quieter given the older demographics than Carnival. I don't have much experience with Carnival we will be sailing on her for the 2nd time in May but if HAL is sailing out of Norfolk I will definitely choose HAL.

  11. Sorry you had a bad experience. We have dined in Carnival steakhouses over 15 times and 3 in the Splendor steakhouse and have never received anything close to what you describe. We will be on her 8/4 and plan to visit twice (once being the first evening). I will report back on our cruise and steakhouse experience when I return.

Looking forward to your steakhouse experience report when you return.
