  1. Carnival replied stating the ages are set by the tour companies they use and they must be followed by Carnival. I suspect insurance and liabilities.

As suggested, i will touch base with some tour operators directly.

    Cheers.

  2. I know the facebook group for our cruise said that previois cruises, close to sailing, they released more fttf spots. I guess because as someone pointed out above, maybe less diamond and platinum guests. This said, does not help in your situation.

From experience, as previously suggested by someone, arrive after 1pm and the crowds should be gone.

We have arrived in Barcelona at 10:30am and were onboard by11pm. We have also arrived at 3:30pm for 4pm depart and were onboard in 15 minutes. Most people want to get on board asap. If you take it easy and arrive later, suite and fttf may not be required.

For our NOLA in March, we may do the aquarium in the morning to pass time before boarding. Maybe your departure port has something close as well.

  3. Our daughter will be 1 yr old and loves riding in her wrap on me or mom. She also loves looking at trees and flowers etc. I know this would be more for us, but i feel she would love looking around at everything. I do agree that Lamanai may be a bit much and better left for a return in the future.

  4. We are on a cruise march 1st and i noticed the cruise has minimum age requirements of 4 years on most tours. I can understand the cave tubing and zip lining but the ruins as well?

Does anyone know why? Anyone know if you book and have an infant under the age requirement, will you be allowed to bring them? We are on Carnival.

Any suggestions for private companies? Lamanai and Altun Ha i think look promising especially the river boat ride.

Any help or advice is appreciated and if this is already a topic, please let me know.

    Cheers.

  5. Does the ship sail the whole of the river to get into the Gulf? As in, does it sail all the way south past Venice and out the portion that looks like tree roots through the south west pass or other artery or does it exit the river much sooner?

I hope it sails the whole way south. Very excited about that possibility.

  6. We did a segway tour of the old city which included the fort. I think this was in 2008. It was in port of old san juan, close to the sheraton hotel. There is shopping and eating along the water. They were located in one of the shops looking over the main street.

Wish i could remember the name as it was really fun.

  7. I have never been to a port where they have allowed this. Wine may be pissible.

I believe europe is more enclined to this kind of stuff but i have never tried but have over heard people talk about it.

Caribbean seems tight on this. We had rum cake taken from us because it had small sample bottles of white and dark rum used to make them. We got them back the night before debarkation.

  8. My Wife had the same issues, Maiden, Previous Marriage & Current Last Names.

In 2006 we knew we were going to do a lot of crusing. So we both got Passports.

Passport is our defining identification document...

    Dennis & Sue

I agree. Would passport not solve alk these issues? That said, do you have time to get a passport. When my wife and i did our first cruise, all her stuff was maiden name so we booked the cruise under her maiden name. Your situation is a bit more complicated though.

  9. In case you hadent noticed, OP is not sailing on either Carnival or Princess. Have you had similar success with RCI?

My two RCI cruises, one we booked last minute like 3 days prior to sailing. The other back in 2009 , i cannot remember if there was a price drop.

Like i said, never hurts to ask.

  10. I have done this on both Carnival and Princess. The answer is yes and no. Depends on the rate you booked (fine details) and how anal the cruise line wants to be hiding behind policies. i have done it 3 times and got onboard credit each time. Heck i may have done it more times but i cannot remember off hand. Seeing how you booked via TA, you will need to contact them so they can approach the cruise line. The cruise line will typically not deal with you directly. Chances are, you will get onboard credit or upgrade cabin. Keep in mind, upgrade does not mean a suite. Means a balcony in a "better" location on the ship nut there is a slim possibility you get a category upgrade. Depends on availability.

If you cannot get any of that, see if they will pay for a hotel the night before or after the cruise. We got that once in San Juan. Cruise was happy as it seemed they may have overbooked their flights. We stayed at the Sherton right at the terminal and it was approx $300 for the night.

What am I really saying? It does not hurt to try so might as well try.

    Good luck!

  11. We flew from Ottawa Canada same day for two different cruises and Florida has less issues with snow and ice. Most cruises from SJ leave later at night like 10pm or 11pm so Tampa or Orlando to SJ should be no problem. That said, SJ is a wonderful place to visit so if you have never been and can spend a day or two before or after, i say do that. The flight probably costs the same price regardless.

  12. Not a specific response, but categories are based upon what deck and where on the deck the cabin is located. So a d1 and d2 are the same cabin but d2 is in a more desirable location, according to the cruise line like a higher deck, mid vs. Aft or forward, etc.

    Check out http://www.cruisedeckplans.com

Sometimes there are photos, sometimes not. You can view deck plans and i find it a bit easier to view them here than on the cruise line's website. They do have a membership you can buy to get more access to the site, but not required.

  13. We did a morning visit, around 9am and it was not bad until the chapel. After 2pm makes some sense as lots of cruise passangers will be making their way back to their ships but not all. As a stop, we were docked until 11pm.

As someone said above, time of year is probably more of a factor. Only advice is to buy your entrance ticket in advance to at least avoid waiting in the line the snakes around the outter wall of the city.

  14. Hello again.

    We used: http://www.civitavecchiacabservice.com

Cost was $75 euro for my wife and i. They picked us up at the ship at 7am. Our flight was at 10:50am. I believe it took approx 1hr to get there so we arrived around 8am, maybe a bit afterwards. We arrived with enough time to get checked in but as i said above, our flight got cancelled so it did not really matter.

  15. We did a private transfer summer of 2013. Worked great until our flight was cancelled. So had to work the airlines to get a new flight. Rome is bad for delays and cancelations. Word of advice, if this happens, try to get to the east coast of the usa and then try to get home from there. If i can find the info on the transfer we used, i will post it.

As people said, flying to usa is its own terminal and you need to get there early.

  16. Last few cruises i did, muster stations are now in dining rooms and lounges or the theater. Then in an emergency, they lead u in groups the size of a life raft to a raft when they are ready to board. much more organized this way.

Always double check to make sure though. Call the cruise line.

  17. Not sure. I have seen 10 and i think 12 on other ships and lines and some carnival ships state 12 and some people on their forum said they had 14 at a table as a large group. Depends on each ship i suspect as each ship may be a little different in size. For my time dining i think it will be hard for them to accommodate as they would probably have to setup and tear down the table each time. if you had a dinning time, they could most likely make it work as it would be your table all cruise long. As previous poster stated, call and ask if they can do it for my time dining.

  18. As we can all see, we all have our own rules for the elevator. I think we can clearly take from this that being polite and kind is a great start. We can all agree that we cannot say 100% who requires the use if the elevator and who does not other than our own conditions. So it really starts with us. If you need to use the elevator, please do. If you just want to use it, be kind and polite. And if you have no need for the elevator, use the stairs.

We are all on vacation to have a good time. We can all help make this happen by treating others as we would like to be treated. Sure there will be jerks and trolls, but take pride in knowing you are making an effort and know that if you hold that elevator for someone or let someone board before you, it will most likely make them happier and hopefully yourself included.

  19. I cruise regularly with my sister, who uses a mobility scooter. I have gotten into so many arguments over the years regarding elevator etiquette. IMHO there is absolutely no etiquette on cruise ships when it comes to elevators. I can't tell you how many times we've had to wait for numerous elevators because once the doors open I can't run fast enough to get to the elevator to hold the door open so my sister can get on.

Does matter - old, young, American, foreign, man, woman, or child. They are all rude. Every once in a while someone will be courteous. On our last cruise, an older Asian gentleman grabbed his grandson by the scruff of the neck because he cut in front of my sister as she was trying to get on the elevator. I definitely thanked him!

Unfortunately we do not have the option of taking the stairs even one deck. I've lost count of the number of times someone (usually young) will get on the elevator and go one deck - are you kidding me??

Yup, you hit a nerve with me on this thread.

I agree. I work with accessibility needs in office buildings and i know your frustration. I too hate the hop on hop off next floor as well. People do it at work all the time. Elevators are for everyone but priority should be given to those who have no chioce but to use them. Besides. We are on freaken vacation. Where the heck does one need to go in such a hurry? The buffet? It will still be there when you arrive 2-5 minutes late.

  20. I hate when people who arrive after you, jump on the elevator first. I know not all cultures are the same but to me, this is horrible. Same thing happens at home on the trains and busses. Heck, think of your flight. How many people sitting behind you closer to the back of the plane, try to get out of their seats first cutting people off. First thing i do now, is get out of me seat and plug the isle and make sure everyone ahead of me gets off first (so long as they want to). More on elevators, i hate when people feel they can use it as a garbage can or kitchen sink to leave your dirty dishes. For these reasons, i try to stick to the stairs. Not as busy and healthier for you. Leave the elevators for those who need them like parents with young kids or eldery and people with accessibility needs.
