  1. We did a cruise on HAL in 2015 and were very disappointed at the lack of dance space and music. Lots of blues/jazz music - not good for us. Great piano bar but couldn't dance there. Quite a casual dress code. PAX only really dress up for formal nights and other times it was anything goes. We are in our early 60's and were surprised at how quiet the ship was a night.

We booked QE earlier this year as we wanted to experience the dancing. We are only just social ballroom dancers - but we love it. Well, we loved the ship.

There were times that the dance floor was quite crowded but we still managed to get in a good couple of hours each night.

I had quite a few dances with the male hosts also and that was fun. Everyone dresses up so nicely - it felt really special getting dressed to go to dinner and having a dance both before and afterwards. We often ended up in the disco for a while before a hot chocolate and bed. We loved it so much that we have booked on the QM2 in March 17.

We may not be able to do Cunard every time but I can tell you we wont be going HAL again.

I'm sure you will enjoy it - let us know.

  2. We've enjoyed many cruises with different cruise lines and had our first Cunard experience this year. We loved the dressing for dinner and the dancing afterwards. And even the disco later in the night....no going to bed before 10 for us. we're booked on Cunard early next year and can't wait. The dance floor and orchestra really make the difference for us.

  3. Here's what is in my PG stateroom: Two British 240V outlets were run to the glassware cabinet. Previouly only the desk area had outlets.

There is an Illy pod machine and a kettle. After the ship sailed form Southampton my room was provided with 2 regular and 2 decaf pods. Thus far only 3 herbal teabags, sugar and sweatner packs, and 4 containers of ultra-pasteurized semi-skimmed milk. Four packs of Walker's brand cookies. Two mugs and two spoons. There will likely be more variety as the stewards learn to maintain a standard stock.

Would love to see some pics of your PG stateroom - the ones on the web site look good.

  4. Bad mannered? Nothing bad mannered about joining people who are already eating if you've chosen to dine at a large table. We always ask for the largest table in QG and it's been our experience, an informal arrangement is usually made to dine at roughly the same time as others which is usually between 7.30 and 8pm. This doesn't always follow though and some can already be on their entrée when you arrive. No problem. Just sit down and join in.

I agree. We had a table for 6 in PG and often ate at different times from our companions. There wasn't a problem at all. When we were all seated together, we have a good chat and a few laughs. There were no rules - you dine when it suits you. I'm sure you'll love it.

  5. Thought I'd add my two cents worth - we love ballroom dancing. We are beginner/intermediate dancers and we enjoyed cruising on the QE in Jan/Feb of this year. Our reasons for choosing Cunard was the prospect of enjoying the dancing every evening. Well, we were not disappointed. The live band plays for 45 minutes then there is recorded music. They played all types - quick step, waltz, cha cha, rumba and some tango. the dance hosts were lovely. I enjoyed dancing with them when DH was busy talking to a new found friend. We loved the dance classes with the professional couple on board and loved watching their performance on sea days.

The floor does get a bit crowed at times - if it does then just enjoy sitting down to watch others. It doesn't stay crowded for too long.

It was so nice to dress up each evening, have a few dances, go to dinner and then enjoy more dancing. We then went to the disco for more dancing. We have now booked another Cunard cruise next year and can't wait.

I hope you enjoy yourselves as much as we did.

  6. I don't know about booking on line but I do know that if you phone Cunard (Aus number is given on Cunard site) you can select your cabin from the choices they give you. If you go through TA they will guarantee cabin from your requested category. Good luck
