I am quite happy that we booked Concierge for location (mid ninth deck with a large balcony), the four device WiFi which I need to do a little work, and for the advance status booking excursions and dinners, but got a credit for hotel when we booked.   We had no status in the “society” as we only had seven nights before this booking on Regent.

Rather than looking for the negatives like so many are doing where the hotel is such a small fraction of the overall trip costs, I am looking forward to a fabulous 18 night cruise with no drama.  Sure, I paid a bit more for a hotel and I will likely do a private transfer to avoid lugging a number of suitcases to separate busses.  But, I will not complain and I don’t have to pontificate on a breach (that in my opinion did not happen) or other nefarious activities.

I say let this thread die a peaceful death and let’s all enjoy a cruise!

I agree!  There is nothing we can do about this, so get your hotels booked and transportation and look forward to a wonderful vacation

Back in 2004, I was on a cruise on the Radisson Diamond. For those who don’t know, Radisson was the name of Regent before the name change. It was only a name change, not an ownership change. It was its first open bar cruise. I was talking to the captain one evening on the pool deck. He asked me how I thought the cruise was going. I said pretty good, but a little crowded, and service was a bit slow, but overall fine. The captain said he wasn’t satisfied with it at all. We’d been late to a port due to engine problems, bar service wasn’t up to the demand, and he was going to get all guests a $500 refund. I said nothing, as I didn’t see it needed. A couple of weeks after the cruise, my wife and I received a $500 refund each. That is the Regent I’ve known for over 20 years. Not the one discussed in this thread.

I believe that.  It as been our #1 cruise line. I am totally done with them after this cruise.  They will never know the difference, which is a shame.

  3. ok, I have just pretty well had it with Regent.  We have always loved being on their ship.

We have the 2 bedroom for 3 adults.  The gave my husband and I 200 ship board credit each, but not the 3rd.  ALSO,  on the return we have to stay over and fly out the next day.  They have us at the airport, but only 1 room for 3 adults.  Not 2 rooms like it was stated.

I am just so ticked, I cannot tell ya

The $200pp or £150pp amount is the hotel credit you would’ve received if you had declined the hotel and transfer when you booked the cruise. The ham-fisted attempt to call a required refund a goodwill gesture was a PR disaster. The $200 OBC was the Goodwill gesture.

Was just wondering if any one had gotten a better compensation for hotel and transportation.

Here is the problem, as I see it. Reykjavik is a small city.,Regent needs maybe 200 hotel rooms, but these rooms may not be available in that city. And Reykjavik,is a long distance from the airport. The only major airport in Iceland. I suspect that Regent didn’t “survey the territory” well before selling hotel rooms and transport there. And because if this, Regent can’t deliver on what it sold. Now, this doesn’t relieve Regent of liability for selling what it couldn’t deliver. It is merely a take on this mess.

Wonder if this is the first time they have been in Reykjavik in and out?  Maybe they have been there as visiting a port but not needing hotel and transfers.

Although if so, they should have know a while ago that they could not block enough rooms

I love Regent also and this has never happened to us before.  I live in Texas and no matter where we live, if they decide UK get something, then US should also.    Everyone should be treated the same no matter where they live.

I guess most use a TA.  I always book with Regent themselves.  So I do not know who the TA's go thru, but someone higher then what I get to speak with, I am sure.

I agree that nobody should sell what they can’t deliver, which is the case here. And people from the UK have a regulatory procedure to obtain justice. Unfortunately, those in the US have no such thing. The only thing we can do is to sue the cruise line. But here, the lines T&C specify that any such action must be brought in the state of Florida. In the US, some of us live up to 3,000 miles from Florida. This is a regulatory gap that needs to be bridged here in the US. In my opinion, Regent has advertised beyond what it can deliver in this case, and in the case of  shortages of shore excursions, and in the case of no land accommodations in Barbados.

Let me say that we love to cruise Regent — once we are on the ship. But getting to the ship and getting back home is another matter. On the Regent ship, it is pure luxury. Getting to the ship, and home after the cruise puts us at the mercy of mass market transportation which, as we all know, is bad.

I love Regent also and this has never happened to us before.  I live in Texas and no matter where we live, if they decide UK get something, then US should also.    Everyone should be treated the same no matter where they live.

We're researching our Reykjavik transfer/hotel options for our July Splendor sailing too. Seems like most people "in the know" take the Flybus from the airport to their hotels. It's about $35pp, and all flights are met with buses at the airport. Sounds like it couldn't be easier. We're flying in the day before and staying overnight before embarkation. That's preferable for us to take the credit from Regent and do it on our own than paying the big bucks for an unknown.

I saw Flybus, but I understood that they have drop offs which would be in the area of your hotel, but not at your hotel.  Maybe I read it wrong

  9. We are sailing on the Opal out of Basel to Amsterdam on Sep 5th. Leaving Toronto on Aug 28 and doing a bunch of scenic train trips in Switzerland. I have been watching the Opal. It just got back to Amsterdam after an aborted trip to Budapest - in didn’t even get to Nuremberg. It is now scheduled to leave Amsterdam for Basel on the 29th. It will be interesting to see what its plans are for the next week.

This will be our second Scenic trip. We did Budapest to Nuremberg in June 2016. High rivers just impacted the last day. No real problem.

    Anyone else on theOpal.

We will be on the Opal with another couple on he 5th out of Basel. The other couple is doing land portion starting on the 1st,so we will meet up with them in Basel.

  10. You can easily get the train to these places and many others, I'm sure you are aware you can also get tours from Amsterdam as well. Only you can decide what you want but renting a car in a foreign country is not my idea of a holiday excursion but you drive on the same side of the road as they do so might not be a problem. Enjoy Amsterdam.

No we do not want to rent a car, that is for sure. :D:D:D:D

  11. We are looking for a day trip from Amsterdam. Should we hire a car and visit a few areas, or should we take a train somewhere. Not really interested in any castles or museums. We are wanting to see different areas outside Amsterdam. We will be there mid September so will miss all the flowers. Looking for quaint, windmills, real dutch living....that kind of things. A couple places was thinking was Delft or Zaanse Schans. That is as far as I have gotten
